Does poor little Sony need some engineering help?
Oh, how I love the irony in this one. Sony has removed the
rumble features from its PS3 controllers because the technology is
"incompatible" with the motion sensors now crammed into them. Many
people with just a little bit of engineering know-how cried foul when they
heard this, including the company Sony is in a legal fight with over the rumble
technology.Follow the link for the story (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=17141).
Now Sony is being offered help in figuring out the
engineering dilemma by the very company they are suing!
I just find it hard to believe that Sony couldn't overcome the technical
difficulties associated with extra signals being input into their motion
sensors. If the PS3 has so much friggin' onboard horsepower, why can't
hey write a program that will eliminate the extraneous messages.
This is what I predict will happen. Sony will sit back and be quiet for a
while and then announce that they've fixed the issue (remember that the team
that added motion functionality to Warhawk only had 2 weeks to get it into the
game --> Sony rushed the tech into their equipment; click here for the story)
and claim that they are truly next-gen now that you can shake, rattle, and roll
with your PS3 controller.
You heard it here first.- Posted May 19, 2006 8:40 pm PT

I'm a blogger now!
Ok, so this is my first blog entry ever. I'm betting that Sean will be the only one to ever read it!
Right now I'm struggling to finish Call of Duty 2 which is a decent enough game (do we really need any more WWII shooters?), but I really can't wait for Halo 3. I haven't actually purchased a 360 yet (why did they name it that anyway?). I'm waiting for the PS3 showdown later this year when they maybe release an HD-DVD drive in the bundle for the same price. That would be awesome! I think Sony is totally off base with their next-gen offering, but we'll see. If the Blu-ray doesn't turn out to be the platform that Sony hopes it will be, the PS3 is done for. But I'm sure things will work out for Sony. Afterall, they've launched so many other successful formats.....
