Greetings all!
I'm in the process of moving house and the powers that be cannot assure us when they will be round to sort out the Sky tv / internet connection.
I will be off line from 31st July to 13th of August, but I will hopefully be back sooner than that with some luck and good customer service!
Have a lovely summer everyone!

Hello all,
I managed to do something a little more exciting than mark exercise books last weekend when I went on a trip to Granada Studios in Manchester to take part in the taping of the television game show The Price is Right. I was not selected, in case you were wondering if I had a trip to Dubi in the offing, but I still really enjoyed myself. I genuinely did not think it would be that much fun as I'm not a major fan of the show or the presenter, Joe Pasquale. I only really went to make up numbers! Anyway,
it was all jolly entertaining and a colleague of mine was indeed selected to come on down. Unfortunately she didn't manage to get off contestants row.
If you could appear on any television show, what would it be?

A reality programme like Big Brother?
As a corpse in ER?
A contestant on Mastermind?
An aspiring chef with Gordan Ramsey?
Personally, I'd love to get a group of my pals together and appear on University Challenge. I'm sure we'd be completely humiliated due to those years being written off as miss spent youth, but it would be quite a laugh.
Catch you all later.

Hi all, good to be back. Portugal was lovely...already planning to go back there in October when the Atlantic won't be quite as cold! A week off means that I've spent all my time since coming back catching up on things I didn't do while away. Gone are the days where I could just sit a read a good book...
Has anyone read 'A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian' by Marina Lewycka? It is hilarious and well worth a read if you get a free day. Has anyone read anything worth reading lately?
Catch you later.

12Apr 06Evening all,
well, now my blood counts have stabilised, my other half and I decided to book a last minute holiday. Numerous debates ensued; Greece, Spain or somewhere like Croatia? We debated for so long that availability was pretty poor by the end of it! So, we eventually agreed on sunny Portugal. We're off on the 18th - 24th of this month. I will post in the forum about my leave, however I can't imagine that I will have a bulging queue as I've only ever had one submission to sort! ( I kid you not
) Is anyone else planning a holiday this year? Where is your ideal location? Catch you later, I'm off to buy a good book to take with me. All recommendations for that also appreciated! - Posted Apr 12, 2006 1:03 pm PT

3Mar 06Thought it high time that I posted a new blog in case it was assumed I'd gone AWOL! Nothing could be further from the truth! I've recently gained editorship of 7 people: Bill Paterson Julie Walters Celia Imrie Ruby Wax Timothy Spall Imelda Staunton
Maureen Lipman You may well ask yourselves, why these odd bods? I don't think any one is particularly well known but I couldn't believe that there was so little about them on this site. In some cases absolutely nothing. So far, I've managed to put together some quite comprehensive biographies on them, apart from Tim Spall. I think my Scottish heritage must be seeping through, what with Bill and Celia and all. I've also been adding to The Crow Road. That was actually just an excuse to watch a superb show and look at the fabulous locations on the west coast. Next on my hit list are updating some of those excellent Scottish dramas aired on the BBC during the 1990s that are as bereft of information as Bill Paterson was. The tablets are working and my platelets and red count are just about normal!
Always a bonus. Catch you later. - Posted Mar 3, 2006 11:53 am PT

29Jan 06Well, it's been ages since I posted a blog, so I thought it was about time. I've been checking my editor queue daily but not been too active of late. On the up side, I've just received 6 pms announcing that my Crow Road contibutions, made back in November, have been accepted so hopefully I'll get to sort out the rest of that site some time soon.
I've had a lot of medical stuff of late to deal with: I've just been diagnosed with two bone marrow disorders: polycythaemia vera (too many red blood cells) and essential thrombocythaemia (too many platelets.) Apparantly these disorders normally occur to people, usually men, in their 50s, so a female being diagnosed with them at the age of 33 is somewhat bizarre. They think it might be that I have some sort of defective gene! I've been started on oral chomotherapy to try to suppress my over productive bone marrow. Luckily, I have had no negative side effects yet and hopefully it will stay that way. Does anybody have any idea about these myeloproliferative disorders? I'd sure like to know more about them if anyone has any first hand experience!
Anyway, I'm back at work and getting on with things which is good as I feel that being maudlin would serve no purpose at all.
Catch you all later and thanks in advance for any info anyone can give me about them!- Posted Jan 29, 2006 4:11 am PT

12Dec 05Absolutely no idea how I got selected to be in the Community Spotlight, I'm sure it's a computer glitch that will be fixed in a day or two.
Perhaps it was my one submission to Suba Wars that drew attention to myself. Greetings to any new folks who read my rather dull blog. I will take this opportunity to say Happy Christmas and a jolly festive new year to all.

8Dec 05Well, I've managed to become editor for the superb Kenneth Branagh. I am so pleased
I confess that missribs did have a hand in it as all my submissions were just sitting there. Getting to edit this one goes part of the way to compensating me for the 350+ submissions that I had accepted by an editor during the week of missing updates and consequently received no level increase for them. The next editorship I'm going for is the Tooth Fairy. Santa has inspired me.

23Nov 05This whole things stems from the lovely witchinsider pointing out the existence of the 'Off Topic Thread'. Thank you kindly for that.
I've spent many a dull moment there, and you can read into that what you will. Today I gleaned the following fascinating piece of information:
You Are A Lime Tree
You are intelligent, hard working, and innately successful.
You try to change what you can in life - and you accept what you can't change.
Tough on the outside, you are actually soft and relenting.
Jealous at times, you are extremely loyal and giving to those you love.
You have many talents, but you don't have enough time to use them.
What is Your Celtic Horoscope?
I actually quite like the idea of being a lime tree. I guess you learn something new each day. I only really put this in my blog so that I could have a picture of a lime tree to look at rather than spend more time in the Off Topic Thread.
Are there any other limes out there?- Posted Nov 23, 2005 6:50 am PT

Thought I'd put another one together. It's a week later...Thankfully I overcame my ill temper about my ignored pending queue.
Just as well as not one of the 71 outstanding submissions from last week has been touched yet. I've started submitting to The Avengers site thanks to a BBC revival of the show. The editor is great and gets things sorted really quickly so at least I feel as if I'm achieving something! I'm not convinced that the level thing runs accurately though: yesterday I went up 13% following 70 submissions. Today I went up 60% but only contibuted 5 submissions! Mentalism. Overall, a far more productive weeK! I doff my cap ( metaphorically speaking as I don't actually wear one) to The Avengers editor for sorting out all my submissions after my Avengers watching marathon on Thursday and Friday, must have taken ages!- Posted Nov 13, 2005 11:59 am PT

9Nov 05Had some lovely news today: two of my good friends are getting married on the 23rd December this year. A bit last moment I know!
Upon asking if there was anything I could do to help organize it, I was promptly given the simple mission of coming up with a list of songs for the DJ to play at the reception/party afterwards. Initially I was quite reticent to agree as if the whole things falls flat and everyone moans about the music, how awful would that be? However she assures me she trusts my taste, so I'm doing it!
My only concern is that I select tunes to entertain the majorly multi-cultural masses. He's Nigerian, she's Asian British and our friends are a mixture of British, Kenyan and Ghanaian.
What a challenge!
I've been busy watching MTV / VH1 etc for inspiration and so far I've come up with a mixture of artists to suit all tastes. I need that fusion of pop, Bangra and Highlife and let me tell ya, it's not easy!
What a fab day it's going to be though, even if the music will be a bit dodgy.

8Nov 05Since Thursday, the only submissions that have been looked at are those that have an editor for a show. Consequently, I'm still waiting on 76 pending. If they were done I'd be able to edit two people and one show. It does make it rather farcical to submit anything when they've not sorted out what's already there. How long does it take to get things officially classified as the QOD? What is more frustrating is that the 'system' seems to be completely devoid of logic. Some pending from the 16th Oct. were processed, others for the same show on the same date were completely ignored. If they can't cope with those they have, why add more? Is anyone else as frustrated as me? Probably virtually everyone. Concise rant over. Phew, glad that's off my chest. Sorry for moaning but all this hanging about, when I know I could be doing something constructive, is really annoying. I'm not going to bother submitting anything else until my pending queue gets back down to single figures. So, may be around Easter 2007.

6Nov 05Last night was Guy Fawkes night. Usually a time of much celebrating, bonfires, fireworks etc. This year, as my boyfriend had to work, I thought I'd have a quiet night in watching tv with the dog. If only things were that simple.
Our dog is relatively new to us, we got him from a rescue centre back at Easter. So, we'd never experienced a November 5th with him. As it now gets dark by 5pm, thanks to the mental system of putting the clocks back an hour, the fireworks started at 5.01pm precisely. Bob, my dog, instantly objected to the sounds they were making and tried to climb the six and a half foot book case. After pulling down the reference section, I assume it was accidental as he didn't attempt to read any of the books that were strewn across the floor, he then knocked my violin case over and succeeded in breaking the bridge. (I've not played it since leaving high school and I was never very good then, so it's not the end of the world.)
Over the next few hours Bob, who was becoming increasingly unhinged by the moment, managed to get into the store cupboard and pull the step ladders over, bark for up to four minutes at a time without drawing breath, run around the house so many times he created a scorch mark in the carpet and knock my beloved Art Deco mug off the table, breaking the handle. Needless to say, I didn't get to watch much tv. Sometimes though you have to remember that material possessions just don't matter that much. I fully expected Bob the dog to be grey or bald when I got up this morning.
These antics continued until I decided to go to bed just after midnight when things seemed to have calmed down. However, I was woken up at 3.47am as the final batch from somewhere down the road went off. Obviously it wasn't the same person all night, but as we live in the middle of a city in a student area I guess were loads of parties going on. The dog went in to stressed mode again and I spent the next twenty minutes trying to persuade him to get out of the wardrobe as he was adamant he was going to burrow his way out the back. It was rather like the scene from 'The Great Escape.'
Prior to last night's debarcle, my mother's advice, I love my mum and she's usually right, was to ignore him so that he thinks there's nothing wrong. Well, I phoned her today and enquired about the possible consequences of acknowledging the dog during such a time. She assured me things could have been a lot worse. I don't see how, we've got nothing left in one piece.
So, that's how I know Guy Fawkes did not have a dog. If he'd had one, there is no way he would have ever contemplated blowing up the Houses of Parliament as he would have been fully aware of the consequences for our canine companions. He has a lot to answer for in my opinion. On the up side, at least I don't own the local dog kennels.- Posted Nov 6, 2005 9:54 am PT
