Consoles, are they really what will kill off PC's?

Some of the big questions asked all the different gaming systems available are of course, which is better? what should I get? Is this worth it? From the family friendly Wii to the (now) bargain basement priced next-gen xbox 360 and of course high-priced, and high-tech playstation 3.OK then there are Pc's which in some people's opinion are old-fashioned and that the consoles are the way of the future. This somewhat annoys me as in my opinion, consoles are sort of half-hearted, cheaper and more basic version than the good old PC. Whats the point if you end up with just a plain old console that is stamped together by computerized robots the exact same way every day when you can be unique, differentiate yourself from others by getting a PC or even better, building one yourself. In particular I am talking about PC's with at least some decent gaming performance. When you build a PC it's not all about just building yourself another computer, it's about learning new things and appreciating just how complex yet brilliant thse machines are. When you finish building a PC and you start using it for the first time, you feel as though you have achieved something that you thought was out of reach. I mean, do you learn something from just buying a console in a box in the shop, taking it out of the box and plugging it in? yes some consoles have become more PC like in their userfriendliness, especially the ps3 but they still don't maintain the brilliant fexibility of PC's. On a PC you could spend about an hour online, playing your mates in COD4, then you could close the game and complete that resume you need for tommorrow and check your email. On a console you would have to power it off and then go on to your PC to do all of this. Why not just have a good PC that can play all your games and do all the practical stuff instead of having a PC AND a console at home? I don't exactly get the point. For example, in forums, guys say to each other what they've got in their PC and compare it to others so that they can see how well their system compares.. People with the same consoles as each other can't exactly say this as they are exactly the same in every way, besides the TV. By now you've probably fallen asleep but Pc's are so much more practical.
