Back in the days of the NES, SNES, N64 and the like...there was no online...just fun games with a story mode and a multiplayer mode to play if a friend is over. Games didn't need online back then...they were just too good (some of them). Super Mario 64...didn't need online..it was just good. Ocarina of Time...lengthy story, wealth of options...didn't need online. Now, today...I hear of people just skipping the main campaign or story mode and going straight to online first...It seems as if those story modes that were so popular back in the 90's and early 2000's are now just an afterthought.
I always play the campaign first...it's in my nature...then I can go play online, but our...(how should I put this)....need of online games has changed games altogether. Sometimes if a game doesn't have online play, I pass it up. I found myself at a game store ready to rent games and I saw The Bourne Conspiracy. I'd always wanted to give it a try...but then I looked at the top right of the case, eager to see the "Xbox-Live" symbol. It wasn't there. I passed it up.....
Online has changed games. Some companies are basically refusing to make campaigns or stories that are...you know...good! Instead, they focus on the online. I'm not saying this is bad, but a part of me misses the dedication that was put into the campaigns. I applaud those games that have a fleshed out single player and multiplayer, and I applaud those games that just have a story and nothing else...those are the games that I remember. Those are the games that made history. Again, don't get me wrong, I love online...it's just changed the way that I rent, purchase and play games.

Okay, we've got the 3 next generation systems. It's time to throw down. E3 is basically over...we now know what and when things are coming out. Here we go. This is all about the here and the now, not about 2009...We're gonna talk about 2008.
Xbox 360:
Gears of War 2: Everyone's been waiting for this. Everyone's ready for it. Gears of War has returned. It's time for the 360 to get a makeover as well. A new dashboard and tons of avatars and avatar games to play with. The 360 is totally reinventing itself with titles like Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, FF XIII, Fable 2, Mirror's Edge, Fallout 3, Dead Space and Call of Duty: World at War. The lineup seems great and 360 is keeping strong.
PS3:
PS3 had a rocky start but now...now it begins. Exclusive to the PS3 is Little Big Planet (which'll be AWESOME), Home, and a couple of others...More people might consider buying the PS3, even though no price drop has been announced. PS3 also shares some games like Mirror's Edge and Dead Space with the Xbox 360 as well. On the bad side...one of PS3's Ace's in the hole, Final Fantasy XIII has now been confirmed for the 360.
Wii:
Ummm...Madworld...
