Some companies said it couldn't be done, but one company have suceed in doing it! Pioneer have managed to make a 16 layer disc able to hold 400gb of data! And the added bonus of that is the read speed is faster then Blu-Ray. So this disc holds more data, reads faster and is cheaper to produce. What happens now will be very interesting but i think it shows dvds are going to be around a lot longer yet!

Some very interesting information has just been passed onto me. This type of info will never be shown on Gamespot what with their Konami contracts and all.
Sales figures for Japan for the second week of MGS4 have just been leaked. In what can only be described as horrendous the sales have plummeted from selling 460,000 copies of MGS4 last week to just 21.000 the following week! That if true makes Metal Gear Solid 4 the biggest drop from week 1 to week 2 sales in history. To put that into perspective that is 439.000 LESS then the week before!
To make things worse the game barely limped to number 3 in the charts being beaten by Super Robot Wars....
The hardware figures should be released soon so will update soon as i have them.
Well the sales figures are in for Sony's giant killer Metal Gear Solid 4.
For the first week in USA it sold 502.000 copies. Pretty impressive! But with all the hype and talk we over in this section try to keep a little reality. We are not scared to ask just how well has MGS4 done on it's first week despite full mark scores from Konami cheque recivers Gamespot and IGN. How has it done with all these things supporting it and with according to Sony nearly 6m PS3's in USA. Well i will tell you! This generation Metal Gear 4 comes in 15th in 1st week sales. Not really anywhere near what the amount of noise suggests.
So in terms of 1st week sales in America this is the list
1. Halo 3 (360) - 3m
2. GTA4 (360) - 2.3m
3. Super Smash Brawl (Wii) - 1.7m
4. Mario Kart (Wii) - 1.3m
5. GTA4 (PS3) - 1.2m
6. COD4 (360) - 761k
7. Wii Fit (Wii) - 730k
8. Madden 08 (360) - 711k
9. Guitar Hero 3 (360) - 660k
10. Mario Galaxy (Wii) - 635k
11. Madden 07 (360) - 625k
12. Gears of War (360) - 606k
13. Assassin's Creed (360) - 570k
14. Wii Sports (Wii) - 529k
15. Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3) - 502k
But congratulations to Sony for their first hit game and their first exclusive game to make the list (for how long?). And only their second game on the list. Next week sales will be very interesting to see if they keep close or drop off. It will also be good to see how well it has done to spur sales of the PS3. Thus far we have loose numbers but some are putting first week sales at 122k units sold. That is only 60k more then the 360 and only 8k more then the Wii. Is that the massive gain some expected? You decide ![]()
Well it's that time again. Ahead of the NPD releasing the sales for may on 12th june, Mr Pachter has come out with his predictions!
Wii - 750,000
Xbox 360 - 250,000
PS3 - 225,000
PS2 - 125,000
DS - 550,000
PSP - 200,000
Remember last month Pachter won 4-2, lets see if i can do better this time!
My predictions
Wii - 680.000
Xbox 360 - 210.000
PS3 - 190.000
PS2 - 120.000
DS - 500.000
PSP - 210.000
The interesting thing about this month is if these figures turn out to be true GTA4 would of had little if any effect on console sales for either machine. Which would mean June is the make or break month for PS3 in america. It is all well and good selling consoles in places like europe but if people are not buying the games nor the movies what is it used for?
Take total software sales for everywhere but america. The PS3 has sold a total of 19m games and the 360 has sold 19.6m games. Shouldn't the PS3 be destroying the 360 in game sales? Then compare that to america game sales. The 360 has sold 104m compared to 31m games on the PS3. That means for every 1 game bought on the PS3 3 are bought on the 360. So it is all well and good selling consoles but Sony really need to start selling games and they have Metal Gear Solid 4 to help with that. If this game fails to sell and consoles continue to decline then what else does Sony have to get people to buy games?

Well after a few days of PS3 games being canned (Getaway and Eight Nights) it would seem another title has been added to this list. The threequel to one of the highest reviewed games in history and one of the best RTS games full stop has been dropped from the PS3. We are of course talking about Red Alert 3. In what is sounding slighty strange the game is still coming out for the PC and 360. When questioned about it
Jonathan Goddard, PR Manager for EA said; "We can confirm that the development of Red Alert 3 for PS3 has been put on hold. EALA is focusing resources on development for PC and Xbox 360 which will ship simultaneously this autumn."
The ironic thing is that is it really wise to ditch the PS3 version in favour of the 360 version? The 360 has loads of RTS games and has a few more soon to be released such as Halo Wars and EndWar. Where as the PS3 has almost no RTS games at all. Would they not make more money by having a RTS game with no competition?
I'm sure as the hours tick away more details will emerge and i hope the question "Has RA3 become exclusive?" will be answered. If it has then it marks one of the last once Sony exclusive games from the PS1 era to abandon it's old friend. Lets hope not!
