MAR: Marchen Awakens Romance - Coming to Toonami Jetstream (July 17, 2006)!

MAR is easily one of my favorite mangas, but I've never seen the anime before. In a few hours, I will be able to experience the MAR anime via YouTube. I'm getting very excited that it's coming to Toonami Jetstream, and I'd love to see the anime before it's dubbed. If you've never heard of this anime/manga, I suggest that you read below. I have posted a quick summary (thanks to Wikipedia).

MAR: Marchen Awakens Romance is a popular manga series created by Nobuyuki Anzai - the creator of Flame of Recca. A television anime of the series also exists and in Japan is broadcast on TXN stations. The Anime is severely toned down from the manga, containing almost no blood (the manga is very graphic at times), referring to alcohol as "Paopu juice", and adding flashbacks, backstories, and dialogue that never occurred in the manga during battles, apparently to make the fight last an entire episode.

The story follows Ginta Toramizu, a boy who always dreamed of a fantasy world, but now has actually been transported to one - MAR Heaven. Here, his physical weakness is replaced with physical strength. Ginta quickly meets the mysterious witch Dorothy, who introduces him to the powerful ÄRMs; artifacts that can possess the power to transform into weapons, summon monsters, or other abilities. Ginta obtains a special ARM call Babbo. Babbo is unique: not only is he a weapon ARM, but he is also alive and can therefore talk, drink, and move of his own accord. Babbo was once the weapon of an infamous Knight named Phantom, the leader of the Chess Pieces who has return to conquer MAR Heaven.

As of 2005 the manga is still running and has reached about Chapter 112. The series is published in Japan by Shogakukan, in North America in English by VIZ Media, and in Singapore in English and Simplified Chinese by Chuang Yi.

MAR has been announced to be a part of Cartoon Network's new online broadband service called Toonami Jetstream. It is slated to begin July 17, 2006.

If you're interested in the MAR anime as much as I am, you can watch the first episode (in Japanese; subtitled in English) by clicking on the following URL address: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_D431jwqUxo. Enjoy!

MAR owns your ass,

Happy Easter!

Hello all. I hope you all have a happy Easter. I know I won't be doing much today, but I do need to go to church quite soon. The next paragraph is just for clutter, it's about the background of Easter (from Wikipedia). If you want to read it, go ahead.

Easter is the most important religious holiday of the Christian liturgical year, observed between late March and late April (early April to early May in Eastern Christianity) to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, which Christians believe occurred after his death by crucifixion in AD 27-33 (see Good Friday). Easter can also refer to the season of the church year, lasting for fifty days, which follows this holiday and ends at Pentecost. Easter Day is also called the Sunday of the Resurrection or "Resurrection Day."

In most languages of Christian societies, other than English, German and some Slavic languages, the holiday's name is derived from Pesach, the Hebrew name of Passover, a Jewish holiday to which the Christian Easter is intimately linked. Easter depends on Passover not only for much of its symbolic meaning but also for its position in the calendar; the Last Supper shared by Jesus and his disciples before his crucifixion is generally thought of as a Passover seder, based on the chronology in the Synoptic Gospels. The Gospel of John has a different chronology which has Christ's death at the time of the slaughter of the Passover lambs, which may have been for theological reasons but which is regarded by some scholars as more historically likely given the surrounding events. This would put the Last Supper slightly before Passover, on 14 Nisan of the Hebrew calendar. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, "In fact, the Jewish feast was taken over into the Christian Easter celebration."

The English and German names, "Easter" and "Ostern", are not etymologically derived from Pesach and are instead related to ancient names for the month of April, Eostremonat and Ostaramanoth respectively. According to the 8th century Christian monk and historian Bede, this month was dedicated to the pagan fertility goddess Eostre. The Easter Bunny is often identified as a remnant of this fertility festival, although there is no evidence of any link.

Spring Break Break's Historical Background

In the U.S., spring break ranges from the end of February to mid-April, but most schools are out the first two weeks of March. In Canadian universities, it is known as Reading week and is in late February or early March.

In Japan, the spring break starts with the end of the academic year in March and ends on April 1 with the beginning of a new academic year.

Spring break is also celebrated by K-12 institutions, and is also known as March break. March break is invariably one or both of the middle two weeks of March. Some K-12 institutions coincide their spring break with Easter.

From the end of World War II until the 1980s, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was a notorious spring break destination in the United States. On March 19, 2006, the New York Times reported that Fort Lauderdale's reputation as a Spring break destination for college students started when the Colgate University men's swimming team came to practice there over break in 1935. Spring break's notorieties include increased drinking and sexuality, including public nudity. Residents of the area became so upset at the damage done by vacationers, that the local government passed laws restricting parties in 1985. By 1989, the number of college vacationers fell to 20,000, a far cry from the 350,000 who went to Fort Lauderdale four years prior. Spring break partygoers responded by moving to the much more liberal Daytona Beach area (over 200,000 students traveled there each spring at its peak), but after Daytona's local government undertook similar measures, the crowds of the mid-1990s and early 2000s had fallen to a point where "a few students still come, but officials don't even estimate their numbers." Fort Lauderdale suffered a recession as a result of the self-imposed boycott, but the local hotel industry survived by catering to the retirement population.

The most popular spring break spots today include Cancún, Mexico; Miami Beach (in particular the South Beach area); Jamaica; Acapulco, Mexico; South Padre Island, Texas; and Panama City Beach, Florida. About 1,000,000 students go on spring break to these locations (USA Today, 5 January 2003). Most students purchase specialized packaged tours. There are several logistics companies that charter airplanes and buy large blocks of hotel rooms to offer the deep discounts most college students need. Prices range from about $600 to $1400, which includes airfare, hotel, and 50 hours of open bar.

Alternative spring break trips are becoming more popular. For more charity oriented students, package trips are available to help people in poor countries, experience nature, and other activities outside the typical party scene.

A similar type of vacation is known as Senior week in the Northeast United States. Senior week follows high school graduation, where graduating seniors will go on a similar week-long vacation to a beach location.

Digimon Savers: "I Am Masaru!" Discussion Blog

Alright, I just downloaded the episode straight from Japan. Here's what I have to say. I'll give this episode 4 stars out of 5 (5 being the best). I had absolutely no clue what was going on because I cannot understand one ounce of Japanese. I could tell that there were some really funny sequences though. Another thing I should note out is, why is Agumon's head so big? I mean, it's absolutely huge. I also have some questions - why was Agumon and Masaru and Agumon fighting in the beginning? That made absolutely no sense to me.

Here's some more things I should note out to fans who have not seen the episode. Tohma didn't appear in this episode, only Yoshino and Lalamon. Respectively, this series doesn't remind me of any of the other Digimon seasons. In fact, it almost reminds me of Rockman EXE. Did anyone feel that? I definately did. Oh, yeah and "Nutshoot" (Lalamon's attack) looks exactly like "Bullet Seed" from Pokemon. Ain't that a coincidence? Not to mention, Kudamon looks a lot like Zigzagoon's evolution... Weird...

After seeing this episode and being so clueless of what was going on, I will not download another Digimon Savers episode. I think I can wait until Summer (I've been watching the Adventure season on Jetix during the weekends). The following paragraph is an episode summary for the episode.

Masaru, 14, meets a strange dinosaur-like creature. This strange creature, "Agumon", is a "Digital Monster" from another world, the "Digital World". Masaru and Agumon agree to communicate by fighting. However, Agumon had escaped from and was being chased by an organization which investigates digital phenomena, called "DATS". DATS attempts to recover Agumon from Masaru.
