WYSIWYG, are you sure?
So in one of my earlier blog posts you can see I was having trouble inserting urls and I did not have the WYSIWYG editor at my disposal. I've found out you apparently must be level 2 or 3 to use it. I've used it, and I'm back to using the default text editor.
Why did I go back? It's a mix of factors. I like the fact that you can use it to format your text, but sometimes it doesn't like the html it's writing itself. Or if you would insert a < or > it'd complain about invalid HTML and parts of your well written story or forum post would be lost.
I visit lots of different forums regularly, all of which show none of these problems.I like the fact they try to make something new and intuitive like telling you you have an invalid link inside your post, or you're brackets aren't matching. But if I were to type something inside my text editor, wouldn't I just want it to come out as I put it in, and not have it being seen as HTML? I'd use the HTML editor for that. And they can tell me my links are faulty, but they should allow me to just submit anyway, not need me to fix it. To only have turned my faulty link into an actual link within the html editor when scrolling down from the preview to fix it.
I like the fact they try to make something for themselves.
Just don't try to reinvent the wheel, then come up short.- Posted Mar 20, 2009 12:51 am PT

My Banner
All right so as you can see I got myself a banner, thanks to a friend
Now you may be wondering why it says kingdutch, after all, you're looking at the profile of Kingnetherdrake, right?
Right. Well kingdutch is the username I use almost everywhere around the net, twitter, pirillo.com and loads of other places. The only place so far I don't use it is Youtube, and recently (March 13th, 2009) also Gamespot. The nick originated when kingdutch was taken on youtube and I needed an account, having played WoW for about 4-5 hours straight, just before that, Kingnetherdrake was the first thing to pop-up.
So there it is, now you know.- Posted Mar 15, 2009 1:30 pm PT

Need for Speed: Shift
A little note up front: I have no WYSIWYG editor at my disposal at the moment, it just won't work for me, nor on the forums, nor here for writing a blog post so I'll just have to write down plain URLs since it's removing my beautifully crafted HTML.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EA has decided to go on a new route with it's well known Need for Speed series with one of the three new releases in the series, Need for Speed: Shift (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/driving/needforspeedshift/index.html). Focusing on realistic driving instead of the intense cop chases people have come to expect and love.
Need for Speed: Shift will focus on the racing experience, trying to be as realistic as possible. And for what I've seen so far I think they're doing a good job at it. Beautiful graphics, cars slowly falling apart as you crash, of course with the accompanying performance losses and AI like you'll find in real life: no perfect computer racers but computer opponents with mistakes and anger if you get in their way too much.
To me this all sounds great and crashes with visual damage and performance loss are something I love in a racing sim, however there are people who are not so happy with the new road EA is taking. Should EA stick to their success story or do they have the perfect line on this new road? We'll see in Q2 of 2009 at the release of NFS: Shift.- Posted Mar 14, 2009 2:36 pm PT
