The Machine that is CALL OF DUTY

Let's get this out of the way first: I'm not a fan of COD 4: Modern Warfare. Yes, I said it. Anyways, here's why: All the COD games are the same. No, you say, calling me an idiot,Modern Warfare takes place in a modern day setting and the others take place during WWII. Duh. That's not what I meant. I mean the game mechanics. It seems to me that Infinity Ward and Treyarch just recycle the dame gameplay while using different settings. I thought COD 4 was overrated, and I think Modern Warfare 2 is over-hyped. A news story on Gamepot said that the advertisers for Modern Warfare 2 were looking to top GTA4's incredible 1 day dales records by saturating the public with ads. That won't make me buy a game. It'll make me sick of the game in question. But please, refrain from telling me that I'm a hater. I have played every major COD game since COD2. I just think that recently Treyarch and Infinity Ward seem to be running out of ideas. You may now being the flame war.

    The Electronic Entertainment Expo

Alright, about E3. Well, first of all, my immensely long abscence. I imagine that the one person who read this blog forgot about me. Butters- thanks for your support. Anyways, since no one is reading this, I suppose I'm just writing for my own self-esteem. So much has happened in the months I was gone that I cannot even begin to describe the many major events, but there were MANY. Anyways, i might as well just get on to current events, the most current, of course, being E3. Just watched the Microsoft press conference. All i have to say is wow. The technology debuted there may finally bring gaming into the mainstream. Think about that. Games finally being regarded by the rest of the world as art. In any case, Project Natal is the most revolutionary technology I have seen in gaming the past decade. This is a moment that will be long remembered. If you haven't watched the press conference- go now.

    Piracy Today

HEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYY! I'm back, but since barely anyone reads this blog, I'm sure no one cares. And if you do read and comment, thank you.

Wren28 recently posted a blog entitled "Computers". She talked about how frustrating they can be. Well, my computer hit me this week, and that's why I'm a little late with this blog(again, no one cares). The monitor wasn't displaying anything, and this shrill buzzing noise was coming from the tower. Turned out, there was a problem with the memory, so I just switched the memory chips into different canals, and now I'm back online. Anyways, the reason I'm telling you this is because of the news I just received, and should have seen coming: Tom Clancy's Endwar on the PC has been delayed, but this isn't the case with it's sonsole counterparts. More and more games on the PC have been delaying their releases. Not that thats a bad thing. First of all, I would rather have a developer delay their game instead of shipping a buggy piece of Shiite Militiamen. And second, I also own a 360, so theirs a bit of a comfort zone there. But the thing I'm not so happy about is this: I spent over 1200 dollars to have a PC that could run things like Crysis at max settings. And now I find that developers prefer to develop on consoles, because PC titles have horrible piracy issues. Example: PC developer Crytek (maker of the Crysis series) has abandoned the "PC exclusive" market, because of the rampant piracy issues that their games were suffering from. Initially, the sales numbers were dismal for Crysis. A while ago they pushed past one million. But that's just the official number. Unofficially, Crysis has been illegally downloaded or otherwise obtained two million times. So, if everyone that has the game actually payed for it, Crysis would have moved over three million copies in about a year.

Hopefully, as the years roll on, we'll develop new methods of combating piracy. We deserve better than this. If more people are honest, and actually pay for a game, more developers will take a chance on the PC, and we'll have more games like Crysis.

On a different note, I really truly hope that Call of Duty: World at War is a good game. As I adressed in my last blog entry, Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway was a bit of a disappointment, so CoD 5 is my last hope for a good WW2 shooter for a while. The enhanced physics and the effects of the flame thrower on the environment (not to mention enemies) looks exciting, and it's using the same engine as CoD 4, so you no it'll look great. BUT... it's developed, once again, by Treyarch, and we all know how their last attempt at a Call of Duty game went. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see...
