Scene where both Geoff and Silvy are riding to the hospital flashing back. After Geoff & Max ended up fighting one another. As Geoff won. And Max is in police custody, and both are riding together in an ambulance. Reunited again, but this time, for good.
Geoff was with ivs as Silvy was with him. As his boss James, insisted on the ambulance letting them ride together. After the showdown between him and Max. Silvy feared that Geoff was going to lose. Geoff was in enough pain and nearly lost his life to the three thugs that nearly did him in.
Silvy knew that Geoff was her only hope of getting out of her abusive home. Not even the police, nor Drake or Miss Banks could get her out of that situation. Like the angel told Geoff at the hospital. He was Silvy's sea of hope. Though she never said that out loud, she knew everytime she was with Geoff. He had some kind of peace over her.
As she looked at Geoff with him sleeping. Because he looked really beat from the beatings. Plus, he risked getting discharged early from the hospital, in order to go save her. Because she was alone with that monster. And Geoff couldn't afford that to happen to her.
Plus, one more hit on her, she probably would die an early death. Also, Geoff didn't want her to die. Due to her potential and that she was really a sweet girl, wise beyond her years.
Riding in the ambulance to go to the hospital. Silvy saw Geoff, who was sleeping, and saw tears running down his blackened eyes. Reaching out to her and holding her hand. Even though Geoff was sleeping, he knew that he was reaching out to Silvy.
Assuring her that everything was going to be fine. Even if words didn't show it, action does speak louder than words. She knew she had a savior in Geoff. She felt that if Geoff died, then she would have no choice in living at all. Or if she died, Geoff would feel like, he had nothing to live for either.
As she felt his hot but warm hand on hers. Felt like that of a friend. Not of one that could ever hurt her nor bruise her. Geoff was indeed her savior. As she never wanted to let go of his hand. And he never wanted to let go of her at all. Both were in each other's company. Though they didn't say much at all, both knew that they were safe and sound with one another.
Silvy finally fell asleep. Knowing that she was with her best friend. Knowing that nobody would come back to hurt them both. Whenever she did anything, it felt like she had to live with fear all the time. Not anymore, she never, had to fear Max, the thugs, nor anybody else.
The nurses and the doctors got to them after the ambulance came to the hospital. When they got them out of the ambulance. They sent Silvy to one room and Geoff to another room. Geoff has broken a lot more bones and had so many bruises. They thought Geoff needed way, way, more medical care. So they sent him to the emergency room.
Silvy was looking at Geoff as she was separated from him but not for long. Silvy was being taken care of by a kindly doctor. The doctor that knew about her and her family. Plus, told Geoff, along with Drake and Miss Banks, the kindly bus driver, about them.
He told Silvy not to worry about Geoff and that Geoff would be taken really good care of. Just put her faith and trust in the hospital staff for them to do their jobs. As he looked into her sores and bruises. There were way, way, too many bruises down her poor, skinny body. It was really time, that she got those taken care of. For she was denied medicare care it seemed, for such a long time.
A kindly teacher, who wanted Silvy to make friends, introduced her while with her stay in San Francisco to a sensitive fourteen-year old teen named Drake Clinton.
Drake was a great kid as he was a great athlete in football and baseball. But his grades were failing. Drake had the stress of having his parents divorced for a year and his father met someone else. Despite getting along with both parents, as he was living with his single mom, the divorce put a strain on him.
But his mom and he got along really well. They both showed a loving and tender relationship with each other. That is why Drake got his sensitivity from her. His dad showed him to become a gentleman. Despite only seeing his dad three times a month out of Washington state. He talked with his dad twice a week on the phone. Both his parents were friends and felt that they were better friends than they were when they were married.
But the strain of them being apart and divorced brought a lot to his once good grades now failing failing. His mom reminded Silvy of her mom. Patient, kind, and gentle. His mom thought a lot about Silvy. Despite seeing the soars and the bruises on her. She was afraid that it wasn't any of her business to get involved in her situation. As that was a private matter.
At first, Drake didn't want to have an nine-year old soon to be as his tutor. But Silvy was reading junior high school stuff and doing things at that level. He thought that she would be a brat and so spoiled. But he later found out, that wasn't the case at all.
With her helping him get his grades up. Plus, at times, his house was messy due to his mom working a lot. She helped come to clean the house once a week so that his mom could come home to a clean house. Not that it was Drake's fault as he had his own things with sports. She helped him clean his locker up one time and stayed after school for it.
He found her to be quiet and withdrawn. In need of a friend. While he began to get to know her. He began to slowly but surely open up to the lonely girl. And got the very private girl to open up. She told him that she wanted what was going on with her to be between them for the time being.
He was horrified to find her losing her parents so soon. And living with an abusive uncle, her only living relative that wanted nothing to do with her. She told him that she missed living in Michigan and LA as she had lots of friends.
But she didn't have any friends at all. For the fear of opening up. Because she couldn't open up with her own jerk of an uncle. She says that all Max does is work and drink all the time. Leaving her to fend for herself at home alone.
Drake didn't think that wasn't a good idea at all for her to be left alone at that young an age. He asked if she could stay with him and at times, stayed with her, behind her uncle's back. It was the least that he could do for her.
She had to sneak him into the house without her uncle being there. Plus, if he found out that Silvy was with Drake, then not only Silvy would get it, but Drake would get it as well. And Silvy couldn't afford that at all with him getting in trouble with Max catching them.
Drake thought that Silvy was wise beyond her nine years. And that Silvy went above and beyond helping others, rather than focusing on herself. Which was both pros and cons, thought Drake, to her.
Since Silvy was forced against her will to live with her alcoholic uncle Max, who again, wanted nothing to do with her. And that his freedom as a bachelor was now over. Due to him being her only living relative. That could give her a home. But his home was anything but a loving and caring environment.
When the day came for her to leave, she couldn't say good-bye to nobody. Her uncle was in one big hurry to leave like asap. Didn't give her time to reflect on the house she lived in with her parents for years. Just didn't give her time to think at all. How heartless is that for someone who just lost her parents tragically and untimely, not to have time to reflect.
A few days after burying her doting and loving parents. They were in his small home. She carried all of her stuff and that he never helped her one bit at all. She was a tiny person. She carried her stuff while he helped himself to a beer and a cigarette.
He showed her where her room was, told her that she wasn't allowed to touch anything at all. Plus, the toys and her stuffed animals were to be in her closet at all times. Due to him being a neat freak.
Sure Silvy was a neat freak but doesn't go as overboard as Max did and does. He didn't even acknowledge her the whole ride driving from Los Angeles to San Franciso for her to come and live with him. He didn't even stopped to get her anything to eat nor stopped to go to the restroom. As the friendly cop she was staying with, urged her to use the restroom and eat a hearty meal as he felt Max would be very bad news for her. At once, she obeyed him. Knowing that the cop was right. And that she would make it out alive if she didn't say a word. Or mouth off to him.
Then as he lead her to her room, she was also told by the cop not to say a word and to do what he told her to do. If Max was on that cop's territory, he would do anything to get Silvy away from him. But since she was going on a four to five hour drive. It was out of his jurisdiction.
It would only go from bad to worse for an eight-year old. She was registered under the name of Moss now. As that was Max's name and she would be under his "care" while she as at school. Registering with his last name. Her now late dad only saw him twice in his brief lifetime. And that was enough for him to really get to know how such a creep he was.
Her room was small and not as big as it used to be. Where there were so many toys and so much happiness. Now it was full of sadness and pale. No more color and no more inviting so many friends over her house. It would be just her and her uncle. Only thing that she would do was go home from school and do her homework.
Plus, her uncle worked her to the bone. Making sure that she woke up really early and slept early as well. She would clean the house each and everyday. No matter how clean it was, nor no matter how much she did to please him, nothing was really good for Max at all. Nothing at all was good for him.
She would fix him his meals, she would clean his house inside out. Plus, at school, she had trouble making friends. The once shy but yet sunny and loving girl that had lots of friends was now a distant and withdrawn girl. Was afraid to make friends. Sure she kept up her good straight As. But the teachers couldn't get her to open up at all. And that she never joined in on anything at all of the kids games ad stuff.
Really Max changed her for the worse. More worse, he wouldn't just emotionally but physically hit her. And verbally abuse her with the words you never would say in front of a child. He would hit her even for the dumbest mistakes ever.
She would be punished without supper. Be told not to ever talk back nor showed emotions at all. Her once great body that showed no sores at all. Had sores inside out from her head to her toe. Plus, she was looking like a skeleton due to the lack of food she had been eating. Or been given.
The man had no decency at all. Her body was bruised and sore. Her teachers saw the sores but never got involved due to not wanting to get involved as they thought it was a private matter.
But inside, she was screaming for help. It was like each and everyday, he would abuse her for no reason. Plus, he worked very long hours at his construction job seven days a week for 80 hours. At the end, he would leave her to fend for herself alone at the house. While he went out drinknig with his buddies.
The only thing she did wrong in front of Max eyes, was get in his way of things. That lead her to treat her like an animal. She was treated like dirt from him from day one. Day one of the past six miserable months ever. Silvy was hoping for an angel and hoping to get out of this miserable house with a monster, who mistreated her all the way round, inside out. Hoping and praying each and everyday, things would be changing. Changing for the better.
Silvy finally got some help. As a passer on the road, helped her and that the cops and ambulances came. But it was too little too late, to do anything about the now three dead people, inlcuding poor Silvy's parents. She stayed at a friendly cop's home for a few days, to prepare her for her parents funeral. His family was nice and kind to her. Trying to give her what she needed. But it wouldn't be enough at all.
She wasn't the same sweet self as she used to be. Because she grew distant and untalkative. Who could blame her? If you lost your own parents like she did, then you would be doing the same thing like her. She wanted her parents back so, so bad. But there was nothing she could do, no matter how many times she could and would try. Nothing nor anything could bring her parents back to life. In a few days, she would be burying them. Which she dredded the most. Losing her doting and loving parents forever.
The day of the funeral came and that she was sobbing, while everybody was wearing black. She wanted to hug her parents as both of her parents caskets were closed. The state wanted them close for fear of making her even more and more sad. About fifty people attended. It was her dad's law colleagues and friends. With her mom's old college and high school friends.
Her only grandparent couldn't attend due to being in a day-assistant living in Michigan with alzeimer's. If Silvy could, she would be loving to live with her grandma, her mother's mom. But that would never come true due to her health, both physically and mentally.
Everybody kept telling her how sorry that they were, that she lost her parents. She didn't know if they really meant it or just trying to cheer her up. She just nodded up and down and then looked so sad. As she looked at the flowers of her parents, while they were being buried after the funeral.
But uncle Max, was nothing but a jerk. Talking to people, drinking all the alcohol that you could drink. Really didn't seem to care about his only sister being killed. Everybody thought he was really rude and inconsiderate of everybody, in particular, little Silvy. Silvy dreaded what was to come next. But didn't want to say anything at all. Because she was considerate of others. Despite the past week being like a nightmare come true for her.
But Silvy's nightmares would only get even worse. Because she would be forced to live with someone that would make her world even dark and deep as it had been for the past few days. That someone, the only living relative, that was healthy physically and mentally. But an alcoholic and wanted nothing to do with the world it seems at all. Would be her uncle, Max Moss!
Silvy wished that she could go and live with another family, even a foster family. As there are plenty of children that needed to be adopted or live in a state home like an orphanage.
But the state requires that someone who loses both parents, go and live with a living relative. And Max was the nearest. Sadly, it was like the state was denying Silvy any options at all, on where to live. How and why she would be living with a man who would become so abusive, is beyond anybody's guess. Even the friendly cop wanted to adopt her into his own family. But she wouldn't just be moving out of the comfortable suburbs of Los Angeles. She would be moving to San Francisco where Max lived. And things would only get worse before they got any better.
Silvy was with her parents going camping in Anaheim, California. As the three were having a few days off with camping. And a little after Silvy finished second grade. They were out rafting all day. As it was getting really late. They wanted to get something to eat. Because they haven't had something to eat all day.
So Ernesto, her dad, was driving their Chevy Ram. As Alicia, her mom was resting on him. Usually they were really good at trying to wear their seat belts each and everytime they get into a car. And installed that in little Silvy.
But her parents were really very tired and they were so tired, they didn't bother to put on their seat belts. They were driving to find a restaurant. Her dad was about to go to sleep. As Silvy was with her seat belt on, sleeping. While her mom told him to watch the road. But he kept dozing off.
While driving on a lonely road, near the woods, a tractor trailer was trying to get their attention. Her parents both dozed off. They were driving on the wrong side of the road. When all of a sudden, as the tractor trailer got their attention, her dad woke up. Realizing he was on the wrong side of the road.
Was trying to get off the road, and they smashed into the tractor trailer. The tractor trailer also went off the road. As both the Chevy and the other car, went off the roads, and crashed into the woods. They crashed into some trees.
Both cars were smashed to smithorenes. And both cars had the horns on. Very loud and clear. It was very late at night. As her parents had windows crashed. Her mom was crashed into the window. Her dad was slumping into the wheel. Both weren't moving.
That got Silvy up all of a sudden. She wondered why her parents weren't moving. As she tried to wake them up. But they weren't moving. As she saw the two of them bloodied and with their eyes open but there was no life in them. Trying to keep on waking them up. With their seat belts not on.
She got out on her mom's side because her dad's side was smashed into the tree of the woods. She wasn't hurt due to the seat belt saving her. But as the horns were going loud and clear, she noticed that it was very late. While she saw her parents car wrecked, she noticed the tractor trailer wrecked also.
She came around to the driver. As the driver of the tractor trailer. Also wasn't moving as that person didn't have a seat belt on. His head was smashed to the window. He too didn't seem to move. Now all three people were dead except for little Silvy.
Silvy was about to cry as she lost her parents. Knowing that now, they would never, ever come back to life. She felt that her world came crashing down. Her world would never be the same and it would only get worse, before it got any better.
She tried to get some help as nobody stopped at all to help her. And that she tried her hardest to stop the cars. But again, nobody stopped her. Because she wanted to help both her parents and the driver of the tractor trailer.
Silvy has never cried the longest as she ever has in her entire eight years. She knew that her parents would never be able to celebrate any holidays, any birthdays, nothing at all. She lost her parents forever! Her rocks to lean on. And her guidance and role models. The little girl was now forced by will, on her own.
Silvy was the pride of Alicia and Ernesto's lives. As they stopped whatever they were doing. And since Alicia's mom was her only grandparent alive, Silvy doted on her too. They tried not to ever be too busy with their careers.
Alicia quit her job to be a full-time mom. And that she instilled some books and knowledge in her only child. That is how Silvy became a straight A student. Plus, she instilled her daughter into acting humble and modest in her grades and accolades.
Silvy really grown into a really wise nine-year old. That was way beyond her years. Her dad kidded her like she was her daddy's girl one minute and her momma's girl the next. Silvy learned to be a neat-freak and take after her mom. Who instilled that in her also.
They loved going on trips. In particular, DisneyLand in Calif was really something the whole family looked forward to going too. Also they loved going camping in a tent. The parents and their daughter were inspearable. And that they really loved being with one another. Despite being shy and quiet, once you got to know Silvy. She could be really down to earth and outgoing. But something came up with them one day.
As Ernesto got a new job with better pay, plus, enough time to spend with Silvy as he was a lawyer. Bad news though, they would have to be moving from Michigian to California. So that would be hard. Despite Silvy having lots of friends, she wanted to support her parents. Just as they supported her.
And Silvy's only grandparent was getting alzeimer's. So they were forced to put her in a day-care facility. Since they didn't believe in nursing homes and the horrors of hearing about them. So they thought this was best for her. As they promised to write and visit whenever time allowed them too. Her grandma never remarried at all.
So the move to a surburb in LA, so that Silvy would stay away from gangs and other influences in the city. And she easily made new friends with her sweet attitude. Sadly though, her mom didn't want her to meet her brother, Max. As Max was bitter over his and Alicia's parents divorce. Max went to live with their father, also an alcholic.
But when Silvy was five, their father died of liver disease due to so much drinking. And that they didn't want Silvy exposed to either him nor even Max. They only met Max twice. Like father, like son, Max became an alcoholic due to their father. Max really was bitter over Alicia, really didn't approve of Ernesto, and most of all, didn't even say one word, nor even glanced one time at Silvy.
Despite Silvy being nice and down to earth, Max didn't even acknowledge his only niece one second. And that was the last time(for awhile that is), Silvy was exposed to him. It was only Ernesto, Alicia, and her. If they didn't need Max or her now dead dad, so be it. As long as it was the three of them together, that was fine with them.
Until what happened early in 1983, as Silvy was eight at the time. They went on a campaing trip. Unbeknowest to the three of them, that would be the last camping trip they would ever gone on! Ever! When tragedy struck their four-day camping trip. And shattered Silvy's world forever!
