JCub_TVTome's Journal

  • 8Sep 05
No movement on any of my pending contributions (most of which are over two months old). None of my accepted submissions seem to affect the points on the person guides, so it's very clear I'll never attain the arbitrarily required 40 points needed to edit the guides that I care about. Really, what's the point?

The person guides here are needlessly complex and overly crowded. Movie credits, web links, and news items weren't carried over from TV Tome, meaning potentially hundreds of points on each guide were just plain lost. Possibly those will eventually appear here, but in the meantime, thousands of person guides are utterly untended. Case in point: my oldest pending submissions were in response to an email request from one of the actors I used to edit. He wanted to change the contact info on his own guide. At TV Tome, I usually handled such requests within the hour, sometimes even within minutes. Here, an actor personally requests a change to his own page, and that change sits on a frellin' shelf for two and a half months!!!

I used to check TV Tome at least daily, and not even just because of my editing duties. The only reason I check TV.com is out of sheer morbid curiosity. There are better and more easily accessible resources out there. And I find that sad.

    edit:

Just found this after writing the above diatribe:

Excerpts from Official TV.com FAQ wrote:
TV.com is not meant to be a resume service for people in the industry. Data from credited sources goes through the same submission process and is subject to the same terms as data from any other user.

TV.com is a show-specific, not an actor-specific, database. This means that all links between an actor and a show happen at the show or episode level.

Assuming these facts remain true (they've changed their minds before on innumerable occasions), it's clear that this site will never be what I and many others would like it to be, certainly never anything like what TV Tome was. Not much point in sticking around in that case....

No new (much less old) submissions accepted or rejected. No activity whatsoever except last blog entry. And still I move up about 50%. While this is less than the last several increases, it's still pretty significant for virtually no interaction with the site. Just makes no sense.

And still I edit none of the guides I held at TV Tome. Fun, fun, fun.

No activity but the last blog entry, and I move up roughly another 60%. Predictably random. Neat.

Three accepted, three forum posts, last blog entry, and the usual browsing etc., and it took over two days to move up another 60%. Gotta say, this whole leveling up thing seems incredibly random....

Two rejections and three accepted submissions since last blog entry (old pending entries still pending). All that, and I move up about 60%.

I always hated the Regal Beagle. Just always seemed like there should have been a picture of a dog somewhere in that bar. Besides, hottest singles bar in town and there's never more than ten people in it? What's up with that?

Stealing (the highest form of flattery) an idea from Cinemondomike.

After leveling up so dramatically recently (and with so little effort), I'm now moving up less than 1/2 a level a day or so, even with more effort. um, whatever. So, anyway, figured I'd track it. Virtually all of my pending submissions are still pending (or rejected, more on that another time), so no change there. whoopee.

In the past week or so I've moved up about 5 levels, more or less about a full level per day. That's interesting, since only one of my submissions has been accepted in that time (with another mysterious *** rejection and 44 still pending). So what's fueling this sudden march toward Holy Level 10? Does just visiting the site and wandering about really produce that much of an increase? Am I belatedly getting credit for things I submitted to TV Tome? Do they just like me, really, really like me?

*** I submitted a credit for a person I edited at TV Tome. For some reason, that entry didn't make it over here from there. But then it was rejected (without explanation or even notification), so I checked the guide. It's now there, but I'm still listed as the only contributor for this guy. WTF?

My oldest submission is no longer pending. It was rejected, apparently someone else submitted the same info and got it accepted at some point in the TWENTY-FIVE days since I originally added it. One down, thirty-four to go. And still not editing anything I care about in the slightest.
