Metal Gear Rising
Uhm, what happened to stealth? The whole series was about you running around in a box avoiding being caught. I enjoyed the thrill of a guard standing two feet in front of me as I hid in a vent or underneath a bed. This just looks like a button mashing hack n' slash. I'm going to hope that this was just a tease to show what the combat is like in the game, but I honestly don't think its going to follow its old roots. Heck, even at the end of the game you were awarded some little title, take "Foxhound" for instance (MGS2), in which you were awarded for beating the game in 4 hours without killing anyone (not even bosses), no stealth (basically an in-game item which renders you invisible), no bandana (or in Raidens case no brown hair wig), no alerts, no saves. That was a rewarding experience because you had to crunch time, be stealthy but also quick. I think that this game is going to attract the wrong audience and that the M logo on the box lost all its meaning. People are saying that now that it is not it is not Metal Gear SOLID anymore and now its Metal Gear RISING means that they can change the game completely; I have to respectfully disagree. Just because a word was replaced in the title means that they should change the whole dynamic of the game. There are game spin-offs like Mario Party, but that game is not going to affect Mario's next adventure to save Princess Peach. People who don't like games like this are going to have to buy it and play through to fully understand the story behind Konami's next Metal Gear game. I would much prefer this be a completely different game with different characters and a different title. I think that the reason for the Metal Gear branding and characters is just to attract the attention of a larger crowd; which makes sense from a business point of view. I know that Konami and Mr. Kojima go back to the old ways that have always worked for example Ground Zero. But it still puzzles me on how they would throw a high action, run in and kill everything game out there when all of the other games are basically all stealth. Sure in some cases, you could run in to the middle of the battle zone and kill everything in sight with the a mortar (MGS4 Act 2, right before the encounter with Drebin) or whipping out your heavily modified M4, but it feels less rewarding then just sneaking around everything in my opinion. I am still going to get the game as I am a diehard fan of metal gear. Who knows, maybe Ill actually like it.
