Just what I needed.
In my most humble of opinions, the videogames of today, simply don't match up to games that belong to the 1990's. I have a deep love for the games that run on the Super Nintendo, and Playstation. Super Nintendo being the ultimate 2D system ever built, and the Playstation being the perfect blend of 2D and 3D. Playstation was really the mapmaker and laid the foundation for which all games today are made, and really, not much has changed since then. I'm glad that there are still 6 or 7 titles for the system that time has allowed me not to play yet, and my heart of hearts won't let go.
The whole of my gaming thoughts last week were focused on Breath of Fire IV. I started it long ago and only put about 8 hours into the game before I neglected it and the save file was ultimately gone from my life. I have just began the story today and I'm finding that as far as videogames, it is everything that I have needed, and been looking for in a videogame these days. No alarms and no surprises. The music is fantastic, and the graphics as well as character animations blend perfectly with each other. It's a very straightforaward turn based RPG, and I guess it is what I truly love about the Genre, the tried and true formula.
It's too bad that my mind continually looks to the past to find the greatest gaming experiences, instead of looking to the future. Final Fantasy XIII was one of the biggest let down of my life, right up there with certain unmentionable females, and as far as this generation goes, all the big guns have already shot their guns. Resident Evil 5, awesome game, loved it. Metal Gear Solid 4, THE REASON I BOUGHT A PS3. Final Fantasy XIII... I want Resonance of Fate. That's all I have to look forward to. Maybe No More Heroes for PS3.
So I'm glad I have these wonderful games that I have kept in my backstock, the last of the greats that are still fresh to me. And at least I can go back to some of my favorite 2D titles of all time, that truly represent the Golden Age of Gaming. Games like Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, Secret of Evermore, Donkey Kong Country, Yoshi's Island. There isn't a game to date that has made me feel what I feel for any of the aforementioned, and I find that truly sad.

Bwa ha ha!
Tonight I played an old Mp3 file, it comes from The Piano Collections of Final Fantasy VI, it is the theme of Kefka. It has been awhile since I have experienced the madness of that man. Or then again...maybe it has only been since 2002 when George W. Bush decided to bomb Iraq. I find the similarities between the two fascinating. Ahhh how this track restores my faith in the villians of the world. Both real, and imaginary.

Hard Mode
I always used to be a "normal" player. I would beat a game on normal and tell myself afterwards, someday, after another game, I would go back and play through the game on hard. I have decided that this was not the way to go. A lot of times I wouldn't come back to the game until years later, or I would just never muster up to go through the game on hard, or to go through it a second time. So when Metroid Prime 3 came out I decided that never again would I play a game through on normal when hard was readily available. I say readily, because sometimes you have to go through normal just to play hard. I always felt like I was missing out on something if I didn't beat the game on hard. Yeah sometimes it's tons more rough, but it's totally worth it in the end, gives my a sense of enormous well being you know? I love playing MGS on hard. That game is great anyway, but the added challenge makes it so much more real. I have to say though, I just finished SMT: Nocturne on hard, and that game was absolutely one of, if not the hardest game I have ever played in my entire life! There were so many times I did not think I would be able to finish it, but alas, I stood fast and acomplished it. Nocturne, by the way, is fabulous, and if you are a fan of rpg's, and have not played it, you should hunt it down.
