    I Are Graduate Nao?

    531765_4266034704080_929532750_n.jpg

After 5 long years, I've finally graduated from University. Today I got my final grades and did well, and now convocation is set for June.

My program was a mix of Business and Information Systems and I hold a Bachelors of Commerce degree. The only problem now is finding work, which is proving a lot harder than I was hoping it'd be. Guess I just have to keep applying; but that loan needs to be paid back ASAP.

Ah well, cheers to being done and finally having some spare time to play games again, read books for leisure, watch movies and work out.

The 3DS Is My Favourite Gaming Device At The Moment

It's been almost 2 years since the 3DS was released in North America and it's been a pretty crazy journey so far. From the mediocre launch line up to the price cut four months after launch, the 3DS didn't exactly have the best start. However, I feel like two years later the device is has a fantastic software library. It's been my go-to device for quite some time now, with a lot of great content.

It's amazing to see all of the content the platform has received in two years:

    • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
    • Mario Kart 7
    • New Super Mario Bros. 2
    • Super Mario 3D Land
    • Paper Mario: Sticker Star
    • Kid Icarus: Uprising
    • Kingdom Hearts 3D
    • Tales of the Abyss
    • Theatrhythm Final Fantasy
    • Professor Layton & The Miracle Mask
    • SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked
    • Star Fox 64 3D
    • Resident Evil: Revelations

These aren't even all the titles, just the one's I've played personally. Nintendo has also done a really great job with the eShop and are continuing to do so. Despite the fact that the user interface is pretty poor, there is a ton of great content from smaller developers and Nintendo. These are the ones I've downloaded:

    • Bomb Monkey
    • Crimson Shroud
    • Dillon's Rolling Western
    • Excitebike 3D
    • Mighty Switch Force
    • Mutant Mudds
    • Pushmo
    • Crashmo
    • VVVVVV

More titles are coming to the 3DS, both retail and eShop. HarmoKnight from Gamefreak and a new FPS from Renegade Kid is coming to the eShop this year. There are more title in the first half of this year that I want for the 3DS than I do with the Wii U and Xbox360 combined.

    • Fire Emblem: Awakening
    • Animal Crossing: New Leaf
    • Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
    • SMT: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers
    • Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
    • Pokemon X and Pokemon Y
    • HarmoKnight

I also recently purchased a 3DS XL and sold my original launch 3DS. The 3DS XL in my opinion, is a lot nicer. The screens are nice and big, the form factor is a lot better and the battery life is slightly better as well.

Anyway, what do you guys think of the 3DS so far?

Sony And Microsoft: Do Something Interesting Next Generation Plz.

Before I start let me say if you don't know, I made a thread in System Wars about the same thing. However, this blog is what I actually feel, because I added SW flavour to make it interesting and to get hilarious responses.

    --

Sony and Microsoft really need to prove to me why I need their console and what sets it apart. This entire generation I feel like both the PS3 and the 360 have no identity that separates them from the competition.

I feel like post 2004, Nintendo has been taking the proper steps in enticing me (and others) with new and interesting methods of controlling or changing the way you interact with video games. The DS was a huge shift in the handheld world and the Wii added a new standard that both Sony and Microsoft tried to imitate.

For me getting a Wii U means I'll have all the Nintendo titles I want, probably getting all the multiplat titles for at least 2-3 years and being satisfied. On top of that, mostly whatever else I need will be on a Gaming PC which I plan to get eventually. I also feel like a Gaming PC is a much smarter investment because it's easy to upgrade throughout the years, it's performance is unmatched by consoles and it has the most flexibility of all the consoles.

So I feel like if I get a Wii U, PC and a 3DS I'll be totally covered for what I want.

I'm not totally discounting Sony and Microsoft, but I really don't want a conventional console from them. That stuff bores me now, I need something else. That's not to say I'm a total fanboy - I'm pretty open to buying any platform so long as the games are there. I've owned at least 2 SEGA machines, 2 Playstation machines, 1 Xbox machine and all of the Nintendo machines save the Virtual Boy.

That being said, if Sony and Microsoft do something interesting, or have an interesting pricing model, or have a stronger first party line up that appeals to me, I'll be on board.

I'll wait and see once we see their consoles, however I'm not expecting much in terms of swaying away from traditional conventions - and that makes me sad.
