Again, Gamespot is great...but where's the help?...

First of all I love Gamespot. But the support system here is awful, especially considering the size and status of Gamespot.

I have been a paying member for years. I recently re-subscribed several days ago. I'm still getting ads on all the pages and before most movies.

However, since then the "help" link has been broken all week (until today, consequently after emailing one of the editors here at Gamespot.com).

But now that the help link works, it's still less-than-helpful. I have had issues with getting help from Gamespot in the past----in fact, the ONLY thing I can complain about regarding Gamespot is the help regarding any issues on the site. I won't go into details except to say that after several months the issues seemed to "work themselves out."

And still, no direct contact with anyone, and of course I can't get my money back for my subscription payment but I'm still getting ads and the same junk any non-paying subscriber gets (yes, I have cookies on, and yes I did get a confirmation email from Gamespot about my subscription, and anything else that sounded useful after spending too much time searching the knowledge base).

I'm not even sure why I'm here, I don't think anyone can help unless someone directly at Gamespot reads this? Is this really the only way we have of requesting help with the site/subscriptions? I can't even figure out WHICH subscription I actually have, at least not on the site anywhere-----all I know is that I paid for the same total access I was using before, only using a new credit card since my older one expired. Why is this so difficult to get right, and where is the help, please?

    Gaming and surgery...?

    http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N2J303978.htm

According to this article and study, surgeons who perform lacroscopies (surgery involving small incisions and a video feed projected onto a small screen) perform far better when they have had experience with video games.

It's not that hard to believe is it?   I mean, you're making precise motions using specific tools and observing it all on a screen in both video games and lacroscopies.

Even the (fantastic) Nintendo DS game, Trauma Center, features plenty of lacroscopic surgery-------it's almost ironic.  Of course, the game itself isn't meant to be a simulation of real surgery, but the practical application is there, right in front of your face and in the palm of your hand.

After reading this article, I wondered, what next?  The statistics are phenomenal-------practically enough to merit video game "training" as a requirement for surgeons.   It's quite staggering.   I'm sure plenty of race car drivers practice course layouts using video games, but it's hard to imagine it has the same effect on their performance as this article suggests it does for surgeons.  If it did, you would see the "gamers" laps ahead of the competition by the end of the race, or else they would all be gaming by the end of the season just to keep up.

I went to college to be a doctor.  A surgeon, in fact.  I know plenty of surgeons who have never played a video game.   One doctor I worked with in Cincinnati, Ohio didn't own a television-------I wonder if I should send him a DS Lite next Christmas?  For research, of course....

    Help that isn't there

HEY GAMESPOT! PLEASE someone help me! I have been trying for a long time now and still can't even get a response. I am having lots of site problems, I can't even adjust my gender or date of birth. Please do something, I have no idea what else to do except to just go somewhere else and cancel my gamespot subscription.   I think using forums as a help desk is a bad idea-I can't even use the forums, so it's completely ineffective for me, plus there seems to be no other way to get help on Gamespot.com.   Please, can someone, anyone, do anything?
