...And all my friends are junkies (Rolling Stones reference). Well, at least most of you are. Video-game junkies, that is. I'm pretty bad about zipping through games and wanting more. Of course, I've used the excuse with my wife: "At least I don't drink or use drugs or gamble." But that sales pitch is running thin.

My latest "gotta have it" game is the GTA Trilogy (includes GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas). Until recently, I had very little interest in the franchise. I played a smattering of San Andreas once at a friend's and then a little of the PC version of Vice City on my computer (but couldn't come to terms with the controls), but really, I've never been attracted to playing the role of a thug...until now.

I have my moods, and I guess my mood for GTA has finally come around. To be sure, it has nothing to do with the recent release of GTA IV. I've seen many a GTA game come and go, and shrugged each one off with a "meh." But I think I'm just really hankering for a deep, open-world experience, and it doesn't seem to get better than GTA.

The wife said, "not `til Christmas," so I'll just being doing the watching-all-available-videos thing until then. I have so many games at my disposal, but when I'm hankering for something, I'm hankering for something. Current flavor: GTA. Go figure....

Not really. Whenever I'm in the mood for a game, I just ignore it. I never impule (as BlueJ says) buy anything, and I know exactly what I'm going to get and play. I never wake up and say "today, I feel like playing Shadow" even though I already beat the game mutiple times and haven't picked it up in months aside from mutiplayer (although I got it in 2005). So, no, I can't really relate. As for GTA, none of the games are really my cup of tea, but they sure as heck seem to be yours.

GTA Vice City is the best story wise, San Andreas is the best gameplay wise. The trilogy is pretty cheap now.

Actually, I'll probably be starting with GTA III. Not because I want to follow any timeline -- I just like the seedy, gritty look of GTA III the most. But I'm trying to get my wife to play when I get the Trilogy, and I'll probably suggest San Andreas for her, since she loves both customization and doing lots of side stuff. She plays Fable, but when she does, she usually spends most of her time gambling at the cards' table. So, I think she'll really get a kick out of all the little things the game has for players outside of the regular missions. I also look forward to exploring San Andreas, since it looks so huge. Vice City is actually at the bottom of my play list for those three games. I grew up in Miami, FL, and after playing a bit of Vice City on my computer, the atmoshere is just kinda "meh" to me.

I say go with Vice City great soundtrack and one of the best. I liked it more than San Andreas. I have the Trilogy great set though I haven't really played GTAIII

The same thing happens to me -- I'll get a real need to play some set of games. Right now my fun with FFXII has randomly made me really want to play Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 (kinda weird, I know :D), even though that was a game that previously I just wasn't really interested in.

You could try grabbing GTA 1 and 2 for PC on the official Rockstar page for free. That gets me through GTA cravings. ;) They aren't quite as good as the 3D sequels, but they're fun diversions.
