  Time to countdown the best game consoles of all time. Let's go! You know you have one helluva list when the GameCube barely makes it. The Cube was released in 2001 to compete with the Xbox and PlayStation 2. Even though it was criticized for it's hardware design and the mini-DVD game format, critics praised the console for it's excellent library which included some of the best games of all time. Great games libraries make a console and the GameCube is no exception to this rule. When it comes to 3rd party support, the GameCube recieved the best 3rd party support on a Nintendo console since the SNES days since the N64(don't worry, we'll get to that later on the list) drew 3rd party devs away with it's cartridge format. This console had great titles on it like Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime 1 & 2, Eternal Darkness, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and more. Plus it had great 3rd party titles like the Resident Evil 1 remake, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 4(which is considered by many to be the best game on the console), Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Tales of Symphonia, Beyond Good & Evil, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the Timesplitters games and more. Collecting for the system should be an easy task as you can find most of these gems for cheap. However, I've heard that GameCube systems don't last for at least more than 10 years. I've had mine for 10 years now, and it seems to be in perfect working order...let's hope it stays that way. This console was also suprisingly profitable for Nintendo, despite the fact that it only sold 21 million units worldwide, which is what makes people believe the console was a failure. Even though it did get some 3rd party support back, other 3rd party devs ignored the system. You shouldn't let this system's commercial failure fool you as the GCN's library is very overlooked and is full of great games.

  Top 10 Underrated Classics - #1: Super Metroid

  When it comes to discussing which game is the best game of all time, you'll often hear someone say Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and most often, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which many decide to pick as the best game ever made. Also when people discuss what is the best game of all time, Super Metroid is often brought up, but quickly forgotten as people just decide to pick Ocarina of Time instead. Super Metroid was released on the SNES in 1994, and was released to universal acclaim, and tops a lot of best SNES game of all time lists, best Metroid game of all time lists today. In Super Metroid, you play as the one and only Samus Aran, as she is on a mission to put an end to all the evil activity happening on the Planet Zebes, and restore peace to the galaxy. This game was a major hit back in '94, and today people still hail it as one of the top 10 greatest games of all time. Why? because it improved on it's predecessors by adding a map, new powers, save points, new monsters and ridculous amounts of detail crammed into each room of the game, therefore truly perfecting what we know today as the Metroidvania formula, as this game inspired other games and franchises that use Super Metroid's same style, like Resident Evil, Outland, Cave Story, and most notably, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and SM will inspire lots of other games over the years. This game is so great as the huge story is told with very little, as it uses subtle moments and music cues to feature events that different games would shout from the heavens, you know what they say, "sometimes, less is more.", am I right? Super Metroid is one of the best games ever made, so why is it in the #1 spot of my most underrated classics list? Simple. This game is more worthy of a title of "best game of all time" than Ocarina of Time and deserves more attention. Also, even though many people consider SM to be one fot the Top 10 best games of all time, there are people who still think there are better Metroid games out there, like Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion - That last sentence I do not agree with because I just don't agree with that. For me, Prime and Fusion aren't even remotely comparable to Super Metroid. Lastly, this game should be in video game design classes, to show students studing video game design what the perfect video game is like and what goes into it. I know that this is all my opinion when I say that Super Metroid is the best game on the SNES, best Metroid game, best game Nintendo's ever made, and best game of all time, and you may not agree with me, but you'll at least know where I'm coming from when I talk about this game. This game is excellent and does everything right and should be on every single greatest game of all time list from here until the end of time because it really is that good and deserves more recognition.

  Coming soon: Top 10 Greatest Game Consoles

  Hi folks, pretty soon I will finish my Top 10 Underrated Classics list and I will start a new Top 10 list based on the best game consoles of all time. This list is as always, opinionated, and if you agree or disagree with me, that is absolutely fine. In a couple days I will put my #1 most underrated classic up, and then we will jump right into my new top ten list: Top 10 Greatest Game Consoles.
