My new review of Superbad
I feel as if I was a bit harsh on this film, when I first saw it I didn't like it much and I found it very forced and cliche. I was told by many to give it another chance and watch it again, that I would appreciate it more a second time. Unfortunatly, my opinion has not changed much. Superbad got tons of hype and many said it was better than 40 year old virgin and Knocked up. One of the many problems I have with superbad is the main characters, Jonah Hill is not funny, he is loud and annoying and I wanted to hit him every time he came on screen. His constant swearing and sex jokes may be funny to someone who has never heard the word vagina or penis before, but when Jonah Hill was so bad and irritating that I found nothing he said or did funny in the slightest. Michael Cera was of course playing the awkward character, and there is the infamous McLovin.
I'm sorry guys, I dont get why the McLovin thing is so hilarious. I got a little chuckle out of the name, but after a while I just stopped caring. Another problem with the film is that the situations the main characters get are much funnier than the main characters, heck pretty much everyone in the film is funnier than the main characters. The Only parts I found close to hilarious were the parts with the 2 cops who should have gotten more screen time. My second viewing of this film just furthered my indifference towards it, I dont hate it, but there is really nothing worth caring about in it. Films like this have been made before in a much funnier way, films like Animal House and Fast times at ridgemont high are much funnier than this. Knocked up and 40 year old virgin are funnier than this mostly because the main characters are funny while in superbad they are not. Also both 40 year old virgin and Knocked up had Paul Rudd in them, which automaticly makes them better by default.
Overall I give it a 5 out of 10.

My review of How to lose friends and alienate people.
How to lose friends is a film starring Simon Pegg, it is a film that could have been so much more than it is. Essentially the film is very similar to The Devil wears prada, which in this case is not a bad thing. Simon Pegg is hilarious as always, Jeff Bridges shows up once in a while to remind people he is still as awesome as he always is, and Kirsten Dunst is the love interest again. There are many moments that made me smile because they make fun of the media that obsesses with celebrity, these are by far the best parts of the film. There is also the love plot involving the consistantly mediocre Megan Fox playing...well herself pretty much. She doesnt really do much and is pretty much just fun to look at.
There are also a couple of gross out moments involving genitals and one involving pig urine. The love plot with Kirsten Dunst is predictable, at first she hates Pegg's character because he is anti everything she thinks she stands for, she then realizes that she hates what she stands for and that she really love him, he realizes that he is wasting time with Megan fox who realizes that she nothing to realize. This isn't a spoiler by the way, it is very predicatble. Its like telling someone the ending of a romance film with Richard Gere or John Cusack by saying he gets the girl in the end, if they think that you spoiled the film then they are wrong. This romance cliche is not bad, but it does make the more clever moments of the film more sparse and it goes on. it isnt a bad film really, but I wish it stuck with the more clever moments instead of the usual slapstick and gross outs.
Overall I give it a 7.5

I met Steve Vai
I went to a Steve Lukather concert, which was awesome, but then i saw Steve Vai standing by the bar. I went over and shook his head and said hi. It was pretty cool since he is one of my favorite guitarists.- Posted Oct 4, 2008 1:57 am PT
