  my 2009 game of the year and a few other things

  Since alot of people have been saying what their personal game of the year is, I thought I should as well.

  my favourite game of the year, is, almost without a doubt, Uncharted 2 : Among Thieves

  

  Everything about this game is great, The story is great, the gameplay is very fun, it controls well, and the graphics are some of the best graphics ive ever seen in a game. Even the soundtrack is great. not a single game from this yearkept me as interested and involved, as Uncharted 2 did, easily one of the best games this generation.

  Also something rather unexpected happened today. My 7 year old brother asked me wether he could play a game from my collection, I agreed. As he looks through the games, he asks me "whats this one", it was the original Virtua Fighter.I told him "its an old fighting game, im not sure if you will like it", but he wanted to play it. I thought the obviously outdated (some would say horrid) graphics would turn him away, but funny enough he really likes the game. Here's a pic of the original arcade version, just to show how badly this game has aged visually

  

  I honestly couldnt believe how a kid who grew up playing late PS2 and current PS3 games could like it. It seems this 7 year old kid is smarter then alot of gamers far older then him (no offense to anyone , but its true), he appreciates gameplay more then graphics.

  recently ive beaten Policenauts, and once again ive got to recommend it to everyone, ive also been playing Resident Evil 5 more, as I want to finally finish that game, now that im free until the end of next month (its exam month at university), ive got a bit more time to play more games.

  lastly , despite the fact I personally dont celebrate it ,I wish everyone here a happy Christmas and a happy new year

  Games ive been playing recently

  I have been playing quite a bit more this week as I dont have any more serious University work, so ive had time to play more games then before, there are 2 games ive been playing this week.

  1 . Eternal Sonata - ive been wanting this game for quite a while, and now ive found it for a decent price, so I bought it. So far its a good game, I didnt play very much of it though, but so far its not too bad, maybe not the best RPG ever but certainly not bad. I really like the art of the game, its cell shaded (I think), but done really well. The battle system is also pretty fun, and the music is nice too. overall, this game is good, worth the £25 I spent on it. I heard the PS3 version is the better version as well, so technically I should have the better version.

  as I said before though, I didnt play this one very much, for the simple reason ive been playing another game far more ......

  

  2 . Policenauts - ive been wanting to play this game for years, its from Hideo Kojima (creator of games like Metal Gear, Zone of The Enders, Snatcher), and this was supposed to be one of his best games. The only problem was that this is a text heavy game, and was only released in Japan. So I couldnt really play it....Until, a group of fans translated the game, and so now, I can play it, and ive got to say everything ive heard about this game is true, it really is an amazing game.

  Its a point and click adventure game, similar to those found on the PC, games like Myst for instance. The story involves Johnathan Ingram, a private detective and a former policenaut, and his search for the killers of Kenzo Hojo, the husband of Johnathan's former wife. This of course is just the tip of the iceberg, but I dont want to reveal the plot too much. This game has already taken up most of my gaming time this week, there is just so much detail and attention put into everything. I defenitly recommend this one, especially for Kojima fans.

  Also, I was browsing MSN today, when I saw this really silly article, it was about games. more specifically, it was comparing games from 2000 and 2009 and asking wether games were better today then they were before.

  whats so silly about this article?, the games they compared, games that arent even in the same genres, honestly, this reinforces my view that if someone doesnt know much about something, they shouldnt bother saying something about it

  at any rate thats about it, I think I finally got rid of the flu, so at least thats better.

  What a strange week ive had so far.

  This week has been a ratherstrange one , ive been busy with university work, and quite alot of it, a report which I finally finished, took up alot of time, and its really really annoying, it ended up beingover 8pages, and while I like politics, I meanI do it for a university course, of course I like it, its quite difficult to write about things. the strange thing is, as soon as I went out of the house to hand in the report, it started to rain, and rain , and rain, and I got soaked, I think I developed a fluas ive not been feeling well this week, stupid weather...........

  Im also trying to sell a few games and accessories, mostly stuff that I dont care for. I thought "I could make some money, and put it towards a PSP", but alas, the games im selling are.......well, not easily sold. they arent the kind of games people usually buy on Ebay, and I wont get too much money for them......... here's a picture of the pile of worthless games I cant get rid of, you can see exactly why I cant sell them, its mostly really old, and somewhat obscure stuff.

  

  lastly ive been attacked this morning........by my dog and my little brother. I had just woken up but was still in bed for another five minutes, when all of a sudden my brother runs in with a pillow and starts hitting me with it. he also jumped on the bed and kicked me right in the.........only place where a guy really shouldnt be hit.My dog , who was sleeping on thefloor in the room, decided to join in the party and jumped on the bed ,landing.......you guessed it,in the same place.Now thisisnt asmall dog, thisis a 40 Kgdog who weighs almost 2/3 of what I do, that hurt.

  if you see this dog in the blurry pictureplease report him to the darkman police for further interrogation(and yes that is a PS1 in the background, im playing a PS1 game from the US, and this is the only PS1 I have that plays US games)

  

  so the results of the week are : finished university report, a flu , a pile of games, and temporary infertility.....

  oh and I was interviewed at the Valkyria Chronicles union, that was pretty fun actually, I didnt think getting asked questions could be fun. Also im still playing through Castlevania, which still takes up the majority of my gaming time, even if ive been very busy with uni work and taking care of kids.
