I was wondering if anybody out there could advise me on if I'm completely out of my mind or have a point. Basiccaly my brother & his girlfriend are living with me at the moment and the situation came to a head last night so i was wanting independent opinions on if my expectations are too high or unreasonable
BACKGROUND (PET PEEVES)
The following are a few 'issues' I have with the girlfrien, my opinion is she has no respect and puts no thought into the household
- Make-up gets left on the bathroom counter (the bathroom is the size of a small ensuite, she did start putting it away after i got sick of picking it up and threw it all in the bin)
- She uses my things such as a new hairbrush which she broke and i had to replaced
- The kitchen looks like a bomb hit it every time she cooks
- She takes bowls & cuterly to work with lunch (im ok with that part) but it doesnt come back for months and only after i kept asking and kept putting a list of items on the fridge, and after i got them all back she has started doing it again. time for a recount to find out whats missing
- Clean & dirty clothes get left in washing machines, washing baskets or washing lines for days at a time
- She has two rabbits and a dove (did have mice) which she doesnt look after and I'm the one that checks and feeds them half the time (the last time she went near the rabbits was sunday when she gave them brocilli, I fed them properly on tuesday and moved them to fresh grass today)
- She occasionaly does not lock the front door
Now to the occurance last night which involved the last item above.
I got home yesterday morning from the gym after she had left for work to find the front door was unlocked (I have been testing the door before i unlock it myself) and so i left a not on the fridge along the lines of "Please lock the door as this morning it was left unlocked and someone robbed the place" I then proceeded to fill their esky which has been sitting on the lounge room floor for the last week with various items from socks to avocados and i also included the controller to brothers xbox (i apologise to all game freaks for this cardinal sin). Well when i got home which was about half an hour after the brother he basically threw a tantrum and managed to call me immature at the same time. I argued back that i was sick of the above issues, at which girlfriend responded that she would like to be able to have a taste of the icecream in the fridge before its all gone. Now i may be a little on the large size but i actually dont eat that much, in terms of the icecream given that i actually consider that they brought it and that i share a house with other people i only ever have 1 average bowl of it and leave the rest to them as they do seem to eat 4 times as much as me. I then went to the other side of the house and spent all afternoon and half the night crying as I had reached breaking point. Now, at 8.00 I went to hang my washing outside and found the jigsaw i have spent hours on has been half knocked on the floor and a note on the fridge basically saying "I would appreciate it if people would not pig out on the pasta sauce in the fridge as it was going to be our tea". Yes I had pasta for lunch because the chicken i had brought to use all got eaten on tuesday night by them and i havent a cent left to replace it, and i had what might equate to one cup of the sauce and there was more than enough left for them.
Anyway that was the end of it and i had calmed down this morning and come to the decision that if they can get over last night which i have then i dont have a problem with them staying, however i change my mind when i went to brush my teeth and found that she has also put soap on my toothbrush that it is time for them to go and will be telling them tonight that they have till the end of the month to leave.
So the question is am i being unreasonable to expect what i consider very basic things to be done? im willing to accept i could have handled my side of things differently, but trust me even when i have 'mentioned' something hasnt been done it does not seem to matter. sometimes actions speak louder than words.

I've got a mountain of work to get through today so i thought i would avoid it by updating my life.
Lets see, since the last blog, i have:
Finally got my new car, and am now spoilt with air conditioning, power steering and 4 hubcaps. Though it does need to go to the mechanics tomorrow as the radiator has a leak somewhere.
Got a couple of house guests (brother, his girlfriend, 1 dog, 2 rats & 3 mice) so i can now afford christmas. Apparently imnot allowed to feed the rats and mice to my cats.
My cousin had her 2nd baby boy on my nieces 5th birthday, the first boy shares a bday with another cousins kid.
My youngest brother has just finished his year 12 exams and has a guaranteed full time job lined up in retail at our local Mitre 10 which is better than the 2 years i spent unemployed after i finished school.
Other than that life has been boring as always, Sassy has been lending me books to read so i blame her for keeping me up at night. I've been growing grass and other plants in the cat enclosure and built a sand pit for their poo though ive still got to get the sand before they can use it. And of course work is never ending, which reminds me, better get back to it. See ya.

2Sep 07to record the passing of time than etching it on you hand.
This was my weekend -
Changed sheets on bed with help of cat - various scratches
Washed dishes and hit edge of baking tray - sliced hand
Mowed back yard and ran into tree - skin off knuckle
(no im not that stupid, tree was in garden and i knocked against branch as i was turning the mower around)
Pruned roses - various prickles
Pruned lemon tree (discovered lemon trees have spikes - various prickles
Sewed underwire back into bra after it poked me - various prickles
I also ran into doors and cupboards a couple of times with various body partt, and was walking round like an old granny after i had finished doing all this.
P.S All injuries were to the right hand, suprised it didnt detach and run away after all i'd put it through.
P.S.S I should finally get my new car by the end of the week- Posted Sep 2, 2007 5:51 pm PT

6Aug 07Well it was a cat and a cabbage patch doll, but its the same thing really. When i got up this morning she was lying in the middle of the lounge room when i know i had left her in the study. It has solved a mystery though, Sassy gave me a toy cat that i had sat beside her on the chair and its been wandering for the last couple of weeks but i wasnt sure if it was the cats or my brothers dog as i had been 'babysitting' them for the last 2 weeks.
Sassy took me to her farm on sunday. The baby moo cows are just as cute and entertaining as Sassy's blogs. I helped feed them their milk and got to see one being born (bit icky). By the end of the night it was the happiest & best dressed cow in the district, because it was so cold they put a jumper on it and a dose of brandy to keep it warm and hopefully alive during the night (It survived).
Moos to everyone
P.s. I brought a car at lunch time (Mitsubishi Magna). More details to come.- Posted Aug 6, 2007 5:25 pm PT

24Jul 07I wasnt going to bother buying the new Harry Potter book for a while cause i couldnt really be bothered but its been in the news and i realised as some point someone would inevitably spoil it for me so i was in target on sunday and it was there and i was there so i brought it. Havent read it yet though because once i pick it up i wont be able to put it down and i'd prefer to be awake at work. Unfortunately this morning the planning department started talking about who gets killed and where their up to in the book so i had to run away so i could keep my innocence. Will read it uninterrupted this weekend.
Went and read the local paper instead and the front page had a photo of a couple of teenages on the front page, one was pointing a rifle point blank at the others head, idiots had put this on myspace and now local police are investigating. Charges: Stupidity.
Saw the latest Harry Potter movie last night. Thumbs up all round, definetly not one to take the kids to though. Saw it with my brother who is staying with me this week while the parents are in darwin. I currently require a hip replacement as i walked his dog monday night and now have a sore hip. Christopher wanted to play my sims2 game so went to get this disc but it was missing, he had me looking everywhere for it because i had only had it a couple of days before, I even went and searched the recylcing bin but couldnt find it anywhere, turns out the expansion pack i had only comes with one disc which was exactly where it was supposed to be. Kids who needs them
.
Anyhow I got a new work computer yesterday and am now getting used to the bigger screen. The good thing is its a smaller 'box' so i have more desk space which was much appreciated. OK, back to work, hope your all enjoying the sunshine as it will be a nice balmy 17 degrees here today.- Posted Jul 24, 2007 5:51 pm PT

10Jul 07Got the call last night from mum. The army wont transfer kid tickets to adult tickets, so now there will be no warm weather and no family but then there will also be no long flights. As i was going to take a couple of days off last week, i transferred them to this week and now will transfer then to next week. I also need to go and choose my paint color and door hardware for my new front door. Still have no idea what color to paint it, not that you can see it through the security door anyway. Am in map training again at the moment, actually not too bad given im not nodding off or losing concentration. Though given im typing this i guess i maybe a little distracted. Dont know how useful this is going to be in my job or how often i would use it. Anyhow im going to go over to ebay and window shop. Have a nice day.

8Jul 07Sassy and I took advantage of my housesitting on Saturday with the wide screen tv and surround sound and rented some DVD's, purchased chocolate and settled in for the day. We did watch:
Flushed Away
Stranger than fiction
The Descent
Arthur & the Invisibles
All great movies, and i must say The Descent is the first movie that has ever made me jump. Took Sassy home around 7.00pm with orders to watch North & South (Richard Armitage miniseries). Watched Dr Who then had a spa. Went to bed around 10.00 and was all nice and cozy and almost got to sleep when i heard a noise and thats the problem with scary movies. Took a while to get to sleep cause i was waiting for the scary monster to come and get me.
Sunday turned up and i packed and erased all evidence of my occupation before heading home to reverse the process. Then spent all afternoon trying to light the pilot on my heater as i had turned it off while i wasnt there. After an hourish i took the casing off so i could see what was going on, another hourish and still couldnt light the damn things (it was igniting, just not staying round) so i gave up and put the casing back on, and thought just one more try. And wouldnt you know it, lit first time. So now i am back home in my cosy house, watched the Season 1 final of robin hood which was fantastic and oh so glad Marion didnt marry Guy (he's mine). Anyway better get back to work. See Ya- Posted Jul 8, 2007 5:43 pm PT

4Jul 07Today at work i'm in a training session for our mapping system. Our Council offices are connected to our town hall and cinema/theartre. The course is in the theartre rehearsal room which is behind one of the cinema rooms. So i am currently listening to the sound effects of 'Transformers' which Sassy and I are going to see tonight. Certainly sounds like we will enjoy it, lots of metallic crashing sounds. I have learnt nothing useful today but then it does mean i get to avoid phonecalls and questions from stupid people (i.e. the public). Well everyones returning from lunch so im going to go try learn more stuff i dont need.

1Jul 07Yeah for me.
My brother-in-law is in the army and based in Darwin, but has been transferred as of August 1. Each year the army give their army people free flights so they can visit their families and they have four tickets left so my brother and i are going up next week Thursday-Sunday and then mum & dad will go up and help them pack at the end of July. So yeah for me. Twice in four months. I went up for two weeks in April, then they came down in May for a couple of weeks and they are moving closer (need to google the town to find where it is) so no more looong flights and hopefully more visits.
Moved into my housesitting house yesterday. Did watch Robin Hood from the luxury of the spabath. Then watched Big Love on the wide screen TV. I aint spoiled at all. The only problem is I feel VERY guilty at leaving my cats at home at home all alone. Anyhow back to work.- Posted Jul 1, 2007 6:18 pm PT

27Jun 07I had a lovely salad sandwich for lunch and for desert had a very healthy apple but it burnt my finger. Might have had something to do with melting the chocolate to dip the apple into. So now i have a wet tissue wrapped around it stuck on with a bandaid cause its burning. I guess chocolate is bad for you after all.

24Jun 07I finally got a weekend to myself, which was good because I've had a cold since last monday and still have the tail end. So i slept in and spent the weekend curled all nice and warm on the couch. Though i did have to interrupt my busy schedule to build a couple of houses. I even started a book, given that im a bookwork i haven't touched a book in months.
I just got a call from a friend who I house-sit for and will be living in luxury next week. The best thing is the big screen tv with surround sound. I'm guessing there was a reason i didnt get around to watching my Robin Hood DVDs this weekend, and i get my annual bath. Well back to work, hope all is warm cause im not.- Posted Jun 24, 2007 8:51 pm PT

17Jun 07
I was so looking forward to a quiet weekend this week, just me and my cats, and noone else. And then the phone calls started.
Friday night the following was arranged:
Mum & Dad were picking me up Saturday morning to go look at a car as we are selling mine.
Mums birthday (50) was saturday so my aunt rang to say we were taking her out for tea saturday night.
Family & friend who is a professional was coming on Sunday to take a huge Norfolk Pine out of my back yard.
So this was my quiet weekend:
Saturday morning: It was a station wagon, while it drove well and was fancy compared to mine, it was a station wagon. I have no need for a station wagon. Lets look for something else.
Saturday evening: Dinner with mum & her side of the family. Wasnt too bad, I generallydont talkaround my parents, and I dont talk that much anyway. I definetly take after my grandfather which goes to show i will never grow up.
Sunday: Somewhere along the line some clever someone planted a pine tree metres from my house and right next to the fence. I suspect this tree was the root of all evil when it blocked my sewer pipe and we had a bit of an overflow last year. Dad used to work for a company that chopped trees down so he got his friend to come and do it. He had to climb it to do the job. So we spent the day cleaning up tree limbs and mess.
and now for the quiet.
Note: IM AT HOME. Sassy will tell you the trouble we've both had at trying to log me on here at home. Kinda figured it was most likely the firewall but couldn't solve the problem. So I turn mu computer on and just kinda decided to try again, changed my cookie control in the firewall and here i am, and i have smily faces

7Jun 07Congratulations to Me
I am the administrator in the Building Department of our local council. Theres me, the Municipal Building Surveyor and recently appointted part time building surveyor. We are flat out, busy, snowed under, but for the first time ever I went home last night WITH ALL MY WORK DONE. I was 100% up to date, nothing left to do.
Today I'm the only one here and so after I complete the small pile of work the boss left me to do, once again ALL MY WORK IS DONE.
The Evil of The Huntsman
Thought I would relate the recent spider activity to you
1. 3 huntsmans showed themselves at my nephews birthday party. I blame the birthday cake with the marshmallow spiders.
2. Got the paper out of the mailbox and saw a leg. Dropped everything on the spot, thankfully he got a little upset with that and ran away so i could collect my mail again.
3. Huntsman returned to mailbox. Can of flyspray fixed that.
4. The leg. Went to plug the vacuum in behind the couch and there was a leg hanging on the wall. Decided if I ignored it it would go away. Also decided since this is about the third leg i've found around the house that I really appreciate my cats, though i refuse to think where the rest of the bodies went.
5. Sitting at my desk Wednesday morning happily working away when i noticed a hunstman lurking on some paper on the other side of the office. With no one in our office area to save me I had to go find myself a hero. He didn't even look for it (obviously it hadnt stayed in the same spot). Told me it would have gone by now and that he had had to remove one already that day (so obviously it was the same one that just came back in when his back was turned). Im still waiting for it to appear again and for the moment i am refusing to touch anything in that particular section of the office.
Note: If you dont know what a huntsman looks like think: Eight Legged Freaks, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, seriously their that big and evil.
*Back to work*
Tripod
I'm currently listening to Sassy's Tripod album on my MP3. If the hotdog man invites you into his van, run.
Old Men
Old man 1
Our new building surveyor is a lovely old man, but by gods he ggets on my nerves. He just called to ask if everything was alright. He does that. IF THERES A PROBLEM I WILL CALL. I can cope on my own, thats me, im the loner. I know how to do my job i've only been doing it for the last 5 years. He invades my personal space too. I have about a 1m radius around me and only family and friends are allowed to penatrate it and thats with the no hugging rule. I've tried to rearrange the office so he is forced to work on the other end of his desk instead of next to me, but i think more devious ways shall need to be employed. And hes coming in this afternoon, seriously two days a week are more than enough, go away.
Old man 2
The lovely David is the council fire prevention officer, his desk got moved next to mine late last year. He is actually quite nice. Sassy used to deal with him in her previous employment. The lamington incident still amuses me. Every day when he comes in he asks where my boss is, HES OUT, hes always out. We're that busy he's often out on inspections. The thing that gets me is that EVERY thursday he does a coastal run, so he is most definetly not going to make an appearance in the office. So why ask if he will be in?
Note: A lamington made out of a kitchen sponge are not edible.
Conspiracy Theories
Today is Saturday, yesterday was Friday and Tuesday morning it was also Saturday. I have now discovered why the years seem to be moving so fast lately. Now I'm not sure whether its the government or aliens (thats for the professionals to decide) but someone has put chips in our brains which either are making our days/nights longer (i.e. 1 day for us is actually a couple of days for them) or we are sleeping through days and are only 'awake' for 1-2 days a week. Its either that or my bodyclock needs new batteries.
Lunch
Just thought I would annouce I am now going to lunch
and thats what happens when I'm bored- Posted Jun 7, 2007 7:01 pm PT

31May 07Well it started out as a brilliant idea. My home computer had that much junk on it I thought i would reformat and start again.
So after a couple of weeks of trawling through folders and saving those important bits and pieces from annihilation, i realised it had been that long since i had reformatted a computer i couldn't remember how.
Therefore i called my trusting sidekick 'Sassy' to the rescue. After MUCH frustration and restarts she called her trusty sidekick 'Old Eggs'(AKA Sassys brother) and we slowly made progress. First problem was the computer wasn't recognising the wireless keyboard, we made progress. . . and then things went downhill.
After much more poking and proding, an error message and many threats that involved a sledge hammer the stupid thing just froze, wasnt going to budge for nobody. Old Eggs predicted a problem with my ram. So off i trotted to the computer shop and sure enough a phone call this morning confirmed things. So i will pick up my computer at lunch time and we will be reunited and maybe just maybe it will run faster and let me log onto tv.com from home.
So this is an ode to the egg family for their assistance.
Further news for sharing:
I have a new front door, its pretty, solid wood with 4 horizontal glass panels. It will look even better when painted and fitted to the doorway. At the moment its leaning against the wall. What color should i paint it? My house is white with brown bits (i work in the building industry, i should know what the technical name for bits is) Im thinking purple but that might clash.
Its cold, too cold, i cant find my gloves, my hands freeze, where oh where are my gloves?- Posted May 31, 2007 5:16 pm PT

20May 07So i had a busy weekend (delete inappropriatly placed 't' from busy). Saturday we had a birthday party for my nephew (9). My sister lived on the oppisite side of the country and was down for a holiday. Had to go to dads parents first to pick up a present as they both had colds and couldnt go (feeling a little sick today). He had marshmallow spiders on his birthday cake so of course we had three huntsmans join us for the party. My neice actually touched my cousins toddler (we dont like babies cause they cry) We played bowling on the Wii (Mum bet me by 1 point) and then when it was all over we had to say goodbye cause they left for home on sunday morning.
Crazy cat lady strikes again
At some point last week Sassy came over to borrow a camera and when i opened the door she said there were kittens (purretty) so after a thorough inspection of the three little kittens that lost their mittens (but they still had their mom, new neighbours moved in) i eventually let her inside (sassy not cats). I see the mom cat around, but only see the kittens after dark, so naturally the conclusion is that they are vampire kittens. Anyway the point is that yesterday morning i went out to potter in the garden and the mom cat was lonely (noone home next door) so she came over to say hello and follewed me around in my pottering. She looked a bit skinny so i took some food out for her, and then a drink (do i have sucker tattooed to my forehead?) then i was finished so i went inside (cat not sassy). The poor cat was still lonely so in she came. A little hissing and a lot of stalking from my two cats and she was very happy. Eventually neighbours showed up and she went home again. I really need some willpower me thinks.
Lovely pretty intelligent wonderful beautiful Sassy
If you didnt already know how great Sassy is, she came over Friday night to download her pictures. My home computer wont let me log onto here which i have been attempting to overcome and have yet to acheive (a full reboot will occur in the near future) so lovely Sassy tried to fight the good fight for me, unfortunatley she didnt win either but the point is she tried for me when she didnt have to and so in case you havent got it yet please be advised that Sassy is number 1 bestest friendliest girl.
To Sassy: Lots of love for my pretty banner XOXOXOXOXO- Posted May 20, 2007 6:09 pm PT

14May 07Its true what they say about Council workers.
So it is currently 4.52pm and in 8 minutes i will be going home. I've spent most of today doing last weeks mail (there wasnt much there but i may have been surfing the internet while i was doing it)
Then there was the mad rush of actually doing some work to get at least a few files off my desk to give the impression of a hard days work. Then the internet distracted me again and so now its taken me half the afternoon to type up a short template that the boss needs tommorrow. So anyway it is now 4.58pm so im off to finish the last few words of this thing (wait, now its 5.00, HOME TIME)- Posted May 14, 2007 12:00 am PT

2May 07So i had a dream last night.
Sassy and i were on our way home from somewhere (sassy was driving) and we got to this city on the way (it was a new zealand city, but we were in australia), i asked if we could have a look at the churchs because my dad was looking for a bluestone church with two spires. There were three churchs on the map, the first two werent a match and the third was on the main road out of town (at some point here i had the crazy thought that i would die before getting home). So, we got onto the main road and went up an overpass. Sassy saw the third church out of her window and said 'thats not it, that looks like a sheriffs office'. So we continued on the overpass and the next thing i knew we went straight over the side and all you could see out of the front window was the ground a very long way down, and we both thought 'oh my god we're going to die'. I then woke up and realised my alarm hadn't gone off.
Thank you Sassy for being the bestest nicest friend, but please remind me never to go looking for churches in a new zealand city located in australia with you.- Posted May 2, 2007 4:56 pm PT
