Full Circle (faces of tech)
Just days ago through the gamespot community I was informed of the tragic death of familiar face in technology journalism, James Kim.
Now, just moments ago, I was linked to a show called Tekzilla @ Revision3.com (The latest episode featuring a good friend of Gamespot known as Jeff Gerstmann...Maybe you've heard of him? ). I was pleasantly surprised to see two other familiar faces in tech. From the once great TV channel TechTV ( now transformed to the not so great G4 ), Patrick Norton and...that other girl...the red headed one.....i called'er the "new girl" at the time.
What's bizarre is, I've compared Gamespot's current condition to the worries of "falling off" in much the same way TechTV did and now we see our very own (keeps'im locked in our pocket and loves him forever) Jeff Gerstmann on a segment of TechTV's spiritual successor? Intriguing.
Could it be a sign of Gamespots inevitable burn out? Who the hell knows. Before I cross that bridge; I will be forced to ready myself with the proper protection.

Breaking News!!!
SIN4PROFIT STEALS IDEAS FROM DANNYODWYER!!!
doo doo do doo do do [news music]
Some of you may have noticed a change in the avatar of a one Dannyodwyer of Gamespot editorial fame. When i first saw the animated avatar i thought it was brilliant and it got me to thinkin...this is my, "i have a dream"speech:
The Idea:
The idea is based on ( for me personally) internal protests of the "problems" facing gamespot as of late...the real problem i see is with the change in management which is suggesting a change in Gamespot itself. To summarize the problem i predict i'll present you with two comments i made as of late:
@ capin131's Blog on GameTrailers
If you look at all the Cnet owned sites (from what little i could tell, Gamespot's the only one i frequented) They seem to be a lifeless dishing out of information in a non confrontational way. (soulless basically) Gamespot stood out like i sore thumb from the rest of those sites.
A part of me just feel like GS is this battered child to this foster parent, Cnet. A parent that's just as happy making this child as soulless and conformed as the rest of it's children.
Some of us believe we can still influence that child, free it from it's clutches with internal protest and some of us feel the foster parent is just too strong or that the child is already too far gone.As far as why we Gamespot, i liken this site to the old days of MTV...it wasn't very "professionals", it had a lot of charm / personality to it, it was fun, informative, and people loved it because of this. Now, look at MTV today after all the corporate take-over. Do you see the parallels i'm implying here? yeah...scary thought eh? ...THIS is what worries me.
The Concept:
The concept of what the animated avatar says is pretty simple; "I am a follower of, and an involved community member of, Gamespot and the new management threatens to interfere with what it is that i hold dear about this site and it's community."
My Offerings:
If anyone would like to make this statement with Danny and myself you can PM me the avatar of your choice and i'd be happy to convert your commonly used GS avatar to this statement of protest. It's a simple process for me. For the more subtle members; I can even make a "sans-ass" version for you if you wish...happy ta do it.
Capin131 - "don't treat it like business as usual, over there. Give CNET hell."
