Chronicles of Spellborn
For those of you who don't know, The Chronicles of Spellborn is a new MMORPG that has been in development for about 2.5 years so far...
But Gamespot hasn't given it a gnat's fart worth of attention...
Wonder why? One can only speculate...but my hypothesis is that Gamespot hasnt' been "paid" by the game's developers, like the other dev's pay them to have their games "interviewed" and "designer diaried", etc etc....
This game looks amazing, and it has quite a few things going for it that most other MMORPG's don't....such as an open, non-random-roll based combat system.
What's the problem, Gamespot? Not getting enough money?

I think it's time for me to say something that alot of us are thinking...
I think it's time to say it...
I suspect that Gamespot gets kickbacks from gaming companies if they will give good reviews to that game.
Gamespot has the power to make or break any game they wish, just by giving it a mediocre review.
Case in point: Titan Quest and Titan Quest: Immortal Throne... Those games are fantastic. They are everything Diablo II and Diablo II: LOD was in every way, with better graphics and gameplay, plus a better item crafting system and even more skills and skill combos, but Gamespot gave it a 7.5.......and you hardly heard JACK SQUAT about Immortal Throne...
But Flagship studios comes up with Hellgate: London: In my opinion, the biggest blown up hyped up piece of garbage of an RPG to come out in a long time. The game all takes place on a trashy waste-strewn street in London. There are no "towns" per se, but rather dirty underground subway waypoints. There is no persistent world, and there are no people running around out in the wilderness together. To actually play with another person you HAVE to party with them....This game disappointed me so much, it is PATHETIC. And they have the NERVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to charge a $10/month fee to have "elite content" that should be included in the hefty $60 price tag (plus shipping/handling or gas money to drive to get the turd in the first place).
Guild Wars is an MMORPG with a persistent world. It doesn't charge a monthly fee because of the lower server maintenance (same as Hellgate, but THEY want to suck 10 bucks outta you each month for a few piece of armor and weapons and access to character classes that should have been available from the get-go).
Imagine how Gamespot would have slammed Titan Quest if they made it so that you had to pay them a monthly fee to have access to some of the masteries and items when IT came out?
Imagine how Gamespot would have slammed Diablo II when it came out if you had to pay a monthly fee to have access to the Paladin and Necromancer, and you have to pay that fee to get access to the uniques in the game...
Not so with Flagship. I suspect (and no I have zero proof of this, just a hunch) that either Gamespot is receiving a financial kickback from Flagship studios or someone from Flagship kisses the rear end of someone at Gamespot or vice versa.
Games like Final Fantasy XII get high reviews by Gamespot, when most players HATED the damn thing, for its mediocre graphical engine, it's clunky and automated, useless combat engine, and the way in which EVERY player has nothing unique to set them apart from any other player.
Know what? the same sortof holds true for Hellgate: London. The classes have skills that nearly overlap each other by 50%. It's barely appropriate to even call them "classes" and not just "specs" to be honest.
Take this for example: A blademaster and Guardian...same damn class, just a handful of diferent skills..Ludicrous.

"SOLID"??
Ever notice how many times Gamespot reviews have the word "SOLID" in it?
"it's a solid game"
"it's a well rounded, solid game"
"this game is turning out to be quite solid"
Solid.
Solid solid solid solid. This game is solid. that game is solid. It's solid. SOLID! Solid gameplay. Solid graphics. Turning out to be solid.
Solid.
oh my God, gamespot, Learn2thesaurus!!!!!!
