Devil May Cry (A game review from someone)(I dont remember who)

How long you'll play DMC is highly dependent on whether you factor in replay value or not. Including replay value makes a huge difference...

I'd say it'd take the average gamer around 5 to 8 hours to get through Normal mode the first time they play DMC, depending on their skill level... and whether they always defeat every enemy they come across instead of running past them for a quick exit. However, beating Normal mode, then Hard mode, then DMD mode actually involves building up your gameplay skills. This takes much, much longer and is one of the main reasons so many people get addicted to Devil May Cry -- as your skills improve it remains both challenging and loads of fun to play. The bottom line comes down to the type of gamer you are.

If you're a "casual gamer" who plays through a game on its normal difficulty level then shelves it once you're done, rent this game and only buy it if you're totally hooked on the gameplay (I'd made my decision to buy DMC after playing my rented copy for about 15 minutes).

On the other hand, if you're into high-octane action/strategy games and also the type of player that feels the need to beat every difficulty level, unlock everything in the game, get the highest possible ranking on every level, etc. then this game was made for you. BUY IT NOW! You will not regret it.

WARNING #1 -- DMC has a rather steep learning curve when you play Normal mode for the first time. In particular, people have lots of trouble against the first boss (the Air Raid ability helps a lot) and first "sub-boss" enemy in the mission afterwards against whom button-mashing is largely ineffective. This is definitely not the type of game where you can routinely afford to take damage and/or trade hits -- especially right at the beginning when Dante's lifebar is the shortest -- so giving defense a higher priority than offense as you play will really help in the long run.

WARNING #2 -- No matter how much trouble you have at the beginning, say NO if the game offers you the chance to play "Easy-Automatic" mode after one of the first three missions. Doing so will ruin DMC for most players by removing nearly all the challenge its gameplay provides. Furthermore, three of the tougher enemy types don't even appear during standard EA mode missions (so you won't get to see everything the game has to offer), the enemies die much quicker and there are fewer of them (which shortens gameplay time by at least 1.5 to 2 hours), and once you start playing in EA mode you can't continue to any of the harder difficulties from it (each time you finish, you'll automatically be dropped back into another Easy mode game).
