Length of games and replayability overlooked
I can't get over why some games can get away withincredably short stories. Why dish out $60 for a game that will last me 7 days max. The Fable series is notorius for being really short. Plenty of platformers are short as well. On the other hand, you have games like Starcraft 2 that can last me years and years. I think that is what really seperates games from a 7-8 from a 9-10 to me. On the other hand, there are some games that are just too long for their own good. Fallout Tactics was a fun game, but nearing the end, each mission took ridiculously long, and if you play TBS, a mission will take 5-6 hours. It may just be me but I want a game that will last me a long time with quality gameplay, because I'm not rich enough to buy every single game so I want them to last me a while.
What is horror?
I read a thread about this topic. What is horror? It got me thinking about different movies and games and what they try to sell as horror. Most of them are just stupid, trying to scare you with just going BOO when it gets really tense and quiet. Sure you may be able to find a gem now and again, but they're too far in between. I think that horror should be things that can gross you out and just scar you for life. Instead of having a guy in a mask go around killing people, something closer to Diablo 1 would be fine. Going into a dungeon looking for your family and the further you explore, the more chills you get down your spine. Then you hear a laughing and you turn around, a big bloody man with your parents bodies hanging above him. The skin being peeled of their faces while your brother is still on his table. He's slicing him up alive and you just can't bear to watch anymore. They should put more messed up stuff in the media.
I personally think Bethesda is very overrated. It may just be me but the worlds they makes are sometimes boring (Oblivion). So far none of their RPGs have had amazing storylines or great gameplay. It's all been meh to me. Fallout 3 had some big plot holes and Oblivion was just boring. Morrowind was interesting but it never fully grabs my attention. It's also been a long time and they still haven't figured out how to make smoother animations and how to make the 3rd person camera work. Their voice actors are horrible and the moral choices in their games are either non-existant or too cut and dry to even care about.
Bloodline Champions a Pleasant Surprise
I only found out about this game in System Wars from the 90+ exculsives for PC. Bloodline Champions is a game that is just PvP. You choose a bloodline (character) and you can fight other people in different maps and modes. I found the game to be very similar to Guild Wars's PvP. You have no levels, and your skills are all the same. Whoever will win is who knows their bloodline the best and how to use them to their fullest potential. It is a F2P game but you can buy packages or Funcom points to unlock Bloodlines. I find the game to be very fun already and can't wait for what they start to add to it.
Why Does Runescape Get Hated On?
I still can't quite understand why this game gets so much hate. It's very unique compared to most other MMORPGS, offering you unique quests, many different skills, fun minigames, etc. Sure the graphics aren't the greatest but a lot of good games look like garbage. I know saying this might tarnish my reputation to some but... I enjoy playing this game. Now they're bringing back the Wildy and Free Trade so it'll be even better. If you want to meet up on this game, my name is Dawn Page. If you wanna hate about this part, hate. It's one of the closest MMOs to Ultima Online, maybe that's why I like it so much.
The Witcher Going on The Consoles?? PANACZ!!!
I've already seen threads of PC elitests (like me) complain about The Witcher 2 possibly going onto the consoles. All I have to say to them is remember the first was supposed to be on the consoles as well. Plus, even if it does manage to get released on the consoles, it'll be released on the PC much earlier and the game will still be developed with PC gamers in mind. I have to admit, when I heard the news, I was dissapointed, but life goes on.
3ds or PSP2??
I probably won't get either, I usually don't travel places long enough to justify the purchase of one of these handhelds. But System Wars is just filled up with threads about this. The PSP2 seems to deliever the same things on the PS3 but you can take it with you, so it's essencially a PS3 GO. The 3DS is also a big improvment over the original DS. It sports Xbox type graphics and usable 3D without glasses. The problem I have with both is that they will both have short batteries. One of the only handhelds I had was the GBA. The reason I had it and kept it was because it lasted so long without having to charge it. The two new ones coming out seem to be forgetting that it's supposed to be PORTABLE. You want to play it on the go or on a trip without it dying on you.
I'm going to do an actual blog every week where I say stuff on my mind, so yeah.
Sacred 2... isn't that Sacred
I've been playing Sacred 2, close to the dragon boss right now but I'm questioning myself as to why I'm playing it. When a game makes you do that, it has problems. It seems like the developer went for quantity over quality and it shows. The story is almost non-existent and the side quests are too boring to even care as well as not offering anything good in the way of rewards. The boss battles are iffy right now. I've only gone through the first 2, but neither of them had anything special about them, and the way they introduced the first boss was stupid.
Plus the camera keeps getting in my way and the controls aren't as responsive as they should be for an ARPG. It makes me appreciate how good Diablo 2 really was.
Starcraft 2 CHAT ROOMS IZ HERE
Finally, the chatrooms are here in the new Battle.net 2.0. I rarely do random games anymore, just go in the LFT channel and make your own group. Now you can once again make your own channels for clans, etc. A new league called Masters League was created in the patchto seperate pros from even bigger pros and let them stroke their e-peen even more.I can just imagine the Master players looking down on the Diamond players and laughing.
I'm really excited for the new games.... Well not really
I'm a huge RPG fan, but the ones coming out this year for the most part don't interest me. Sure I want Diablo 3 but I don't think I cancall it anactual RPG. I am really skeptical about any new game Bethesda puts out after Oblivion and Fallout 3. I've never played the first 2 Mass Effect's so I'm not really intrested in the third one. Dragon Age 2 looks more and more like a game catered to a more casual crowd then a fully blown RPG. That leaves me with The Witcher 2 and a couple of indie games I'm waiting on so yeahhhh.
Well that's what I had on my mind this week so seeya.
