Ok, I had Saints Row 2 for the PC, and had some thoughts (before I un-installed it)
The good:
1. I like the graphics of Saints Row 1, and 2. Clean, kind of antispetic looking, but detailed enough.
2. Character creator is nigh-insane.
3. I love the voice acting of Saints Row 1 and 2. Neil Patrick Harris, Jay Mohr, Keith David, Michael Rappaport, etc. Everyone is "cool" in my book. Especially compared to GTA: San Andreas's voice acting.
4. Decent mission selection, and diverse side activities.
5. I like some of the characters. Johnny Gat among them.
6. I like the GPS crap.
The Bad:
1. The PC version was fairly busted. It wasn't super unplayable, but would lag heavily. Granted, this isn't the most powerful PC ever, but I've read enough stuff (including GS's review) to know even on much more powerful machines, the game is still broken.
2. I really don't like aiming. 360 aiming is good. But I want a lock-on function, like GTA had.
3. The city is kind of confusing at times.
4. The big one: I don't like being required to do BS "respect" missions in order to get through the story. That's what caused me to stop playing Saints Row 1. It would've caused me to stop playing SR 2, but I got a trainer and just gave myself infinite respect, so it didn't matter. It's good to have the options to do mini-missions (mayhem, racing, escorting, etc.), but having them be required to get through the story is insane.
5. The game is kind of shallow. There's a bunch of stuff to do, but a lot of it feels hollow. I'm not sure why.
Anyways, I un-installed it, mainly due to the game dropping to a speedt 5 fps during a mission, and me failing to complete it, due to this fact. It's probably better on consoles, but I dunno, I really want to like Saints Row, but I just don't. And I loved GTA: Vice City, and San Andreas. I'm not really sure what the problem is.

The reason I don't post here anymore:
This place seems dead. The same 4 or 5 people keep posting their stuff, which is fine, but that's about it. I got a buddy list of 82 people, and only about 5 of them are doing anything. The people I know on here don't post here anymore. Not to name names or anything (as that would likely get me some stupid flaming moderation), but yeah, there's not enough activity for me to really care.
There used to be a lot of cool people here, DawnBurn, MsCortana (who did have a valid reason for leaving, but still), ReconGoddess, Kasia, Loopy, etc. Most of those people don't exist here anymore. The only other reason I used this place was to talk to Gamespot editors. Jeff Gerstmann, Greg Kasavin, Justin Colvert, Kevin VanOrd, Guy Cocker, Ryan Davis, etc. These are all cool guys. Granted Jeff, Greg, and Ryan aren't on here anymore (for obvious reasons), but even the Gamespot editors don't seem to have a presence anymore.
Hell, I got a response in Twitter from Guy Cocker like a month ago. When was the last time that dude posted here?
(Not to besmirch him, he's a good guy, busy and the like, but why bother having a community aspect to a site, when the staff doesn't use the tool, and the community is dead?)
Yeah, that's about it. Not a lot of people care anymore. Far less than are on this site. This isn't some BS post about me leaving, as I'll still probably do stuff on here (reviews and the like), that can't be encapsulated in 140 words or less. But, I've resigned myself to the fact only 3 people (if that) are going to read it, so really, what's the point.
Oh, also, I don't like the moderators here. Bunch of walking egotrips with a smidgen of power, and no sense or idea as to what to do with it.
At least someone fixed the random stupid "class" blog error. Only took about 3 years.

An old poem I wrote:
Four Levels of Stains
On the first stop we will experience the unvarnished skin. The majestic tranquility of the smooth new surface, brilliantly reflecting the cold white light, casts a dim shadow on the ground below.
I feel a special bit of pride in the first object. Almost as if it's a holy grail, and my unclean hands aren't fit enough to even touch it.
The second stop on our tour begins at the next splendor object. Not as exquisite as the first, but still wonderful in its own right. The surface is lightly stained however, and doesn't sparkle quite as bright. Small stains are at the bottom, green and blue in color, creating a nice painting against the white backdrop.
This is my favorite to use. I feel a small sense of security and relaxation whenever I'm able to partake of its services.
The third stop is about 50% stained. Blue, green and brown mar the white surface. There are also small cuts, scratching the surface. It doesn't mirror the light quite as much, but it's still a little refractive.
I use this only when I need, only when my favorite is occupied, and in use. I feel a small twinge of discomfort whenever I step up, but if I need to, I will.
The last stop is by far the worst. Splotches of all color decorate the once white skin. Sitting here since the 1960's, being used by generations past, going in and out and never being cleaned. It also tends to smell late at night, when no one is around but me. The cold dull surface almost is evil with its grime and dirt.
I avoid this at all costs, never wanting to use it at all. The smells and looks disgust me in ways I could never imagine. I feel afraid, and so does everyone else.

Downloaded Unreal Tournament 3 from Steam, cause it was free for the weekend. Loaded it up, Suspense worked fine.
Suspense Necris crashed 5 times. I only tried 5 times.
Piece of garbage.

Posted two "tweets" about Guy Cocker. One about his nuptials and him and his wife having a good life. The other about him having a better name than Bond villains.
Both are true.
Ironic that I can't say "Cocker" in my title. Under normal circumstances, sure, but considering dude works at Gamespot, for what is a decently long time (from what I can tell) of 3 years. Ah well, good luck sir.

So, the two big Digital Distribution companies out there are Steam, and probably Impulse. Everyone knows Steam, but Impulse is done by Stardock, and is more of a complete package than Steam (Impulse has games, but also windows utilities, etc.)
I have games on both, with Steam I have Audiosurf, and a whole host of Valve related crap. With Impulse I have Galactic Civ 2, and Space Rangers 2 Complete.
Here's the problem with both clients: They (generally) do not allow you take a serial number you have for a game and activate it within the program.
I know there are exceptions (both Valve and Impulse allow their own games to do this, as well as Unreal Tournament 2007, for Steam I believe). But here's the case in point:
I have a copy of Red Alert 3: Premier Edition (yes yes, bow down). I have a valid key for it (obviously), and have played it on occasion. Both Steam and Impulse do NOT allow me to activate my game with their programs. Impulse says "You can only activate a key you obtain from Stardock". And Steam just gives me a general error about it.
I have the same issue with Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath. I lost the game disk, but still have the box/serial code. Shouldn't I be able to enter this in somewhere (Steam, Impulse, maybe on EA's crappy site) and be able to download a digital copy?
Maybe this is only an EA problem, but it is still very annoying. I presume game companies know the serial codes for their games, shouldn't they give those codes to these companies and go "Hey, if someone tries actviating their product, on your system, let them?"
Maybe that's just me though.

So, I got Batman AA. I have thoughts:
1. Damn good game.
2. Detective mode is a lot of fun.
3. Evidence mode is boring.
4. Fighting is oodles of fun. Except for the stun baton enemies.
5. I'm in the botanical garden's right now. Might be interesting.
Yeah, I like the game. I need to talk with Alli about it sometime, but it's fantastic, and easily one of the best super hero games out there.
Other stuff:
1. I got a new heat sink for my laptop. The other one was a bit wonky. Now, it's cool and nice. Also got a new keyboard, and a new set of media buttons. My DVD drive no longer ejects ever 12 minutes.
2. I installed Warcraft 3. This is me trying to give that game a serious shot.
3. I wanna try Sins of a Solar Empire. I'm afraid my brain might fry while going through the training mode again.
4. I'm pretty alright with Peach in Smash Bros Melee.
5. Happy belated Birthday Dreamcast.
6. If the jackass creator of Gundam thinks videogames are evil, then maybe, MAYBE, he should stop the company from making 5 new, awful, Gundam games a year?
7. I've been playing Mega Man X4 some. Best Mega Man game, ever. Cyber Peacock's music rules.
Ah well, enough for now.

So, I got a new laptop.
I had (before) an HP DV8315NR model with the following specs:
AMD 1.8ghz single core
2gb of ram
ATI Xpress 200M with 128mb of dedicated video ram/256mb of shared video ram
230 gb hard drive
---------------
Now, I have a Dell Studio 1535 with the following specs
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2ghz (dual core)
3gb of ram
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 with 256 dedicated video ram/1.5gb of shared video ram
250gb hard drive
webcam/microphone
finger print reader
total price? 297
(JAM)
That's what I'm playing Wolverine with. I also threw on Fallout 3, and have had a bit of fun. I installed the Operation Anchorage DLC, and when I left the vault, I booked it over there, getting into Anchorage around level 3. When I finished, I was around level 7. I liked the look (snow), and....that was about it. Was very glitchy (one guy with me was stuck, and wouldn't move), felt really boring, etc. It reaffirmed my belief that Fallout 3 is not a goddamn shooter, and is an rpg. If you play Fallout 3 like an FPS, you need to be smacked.
Also got Team Fortress 2, and Audiosurf. I want to play WoW, but have no money.
I'm gonna try Just Cause next, to see if it's good or not. But, people, please, recommend some good PC games. I wanna play some stuff now that I have a PC that can do it.

Me and my roomie were talking about the Saturn. He was interested in a game called "Lunacy". Some FMV game that is long since obscure, but got some decent reviews.
My response was, "The Saturn was garbage, they canceled the only good Sonic 3D game ever."
Him, "What's that?"
M: "Sonix Xtreme"
H: "What's that?"
So, I went on a 5 minute rant about how Xtreme would've been the greatest Sonic game ever.
Then I showed him a video.
His response? "That would've been f***ing awesome."
Yep.....it would've.

It's funny to me when I load up a video, be it a review, preview, or anything Gamespot created content, that it starts with an ad video (commercial). Now, that in and of itself is fine, GS needs to pay for itself, etc. etc. etc.
The amusing bit is when it says "your video will load in 30 seconds", then show a completely non-buffered commercial, that takes about a minute (of muted-ness), because the video is so jerky and having to constantly reload, that it doesn't play correctly.
So...that's kind of cool.
1. I installed Republic Commando, and it's alright. The mouse sensitivty was super weird, but once I normalized it, it's good. The controls are a bit confusing at times, but the game looks great, and has no huge bugs. Plus the energy wiping visor thing is cool.
2. Also tried Command and Conquer Renegade. Ehm, it's a really old FPS game, using an engine that only 3 games ever used. What do you expect? The objective/map/dialog system is fairly insane, but the shooting is decent.
My roomie is obsessed with Dissidia. It's both annoying, and extremely pathetic.

A rough transcript of an argument with my roomie Ken about Parasite Eve 2:
Ken: Someone said PE2 doesn't have any replayability.
Me: I dunno, did it?
K: Yeah, tons of new modes, new weapons, new story.
M: I dunno, if you could beat the game in the first place, you don't need the new weapons. The only weapon I remember anyway is the Gunblade.
K: Well, the new story was good. It explained the backstory some.
M: The story was kind of garbage. I didn't like how they de-aged Aya.
K: What?
M: Yeah, they de-aged her in this one, so she looked younger.
K: No they didn't.
M: Yeah they did. (I remember reading an OPM article about this a long time ago, talking about the stupid shower scene, and it being sexy)
K: No, they didn't. -- He then proceeds to dig up website after website confirming his belief that she's normal.
M: Uh, yeah they did. (I then look up on Wiki saying "she is never sick and appears younger than her biological age".
K: No, they didn't. (he spent 10 minutes looking up stuff)
M: Yeah, they did. I then busted out the PE2 game manual from a site and showed him the, "Due to the awakened mitochondria in her cells, Aya appears younger than her actual biological age." (Pg.6 of the manual)
K: Oh.
Then he went to bed.
What can be gleaned from this encounter:
1. I'm always right.
2. When he gets proven wrong, Ken goes to bed.
3. If you're going to argue something, don't use a fansite, go directly to the source.
4. Arguing about dumb, useless crap doesn't matter.
5. Fansites are trash.
and 6. (The most important one) I'm always right.
Simple enough.

So, I watched The Damned United last night. A fairly recent British film about soccer (football), and how a brash coach (Brian Clough) took over his rivals team.
Yeah...it was alright.
The acting was quite good with Michael Sheen, Timothy Spall and Colm Meaney.
Special props to the movie, for making me interested in football in the slightest. Good work on that.
The movie was about a specific time 1974, with flashbacks to 1967 examining how Clough became a good manager, and his rivalry between Clough and Revie (Colm Meaney).
I think the movie suffered a bit in terms of Revie's character (not exploring him enough), and Clough's relationship with Taylor (Spall).
Also, the ending was fairly abrupt, and kind of strange.
But, the acting is good, the movie looks pretty decent, and kind of has a great atmosphere, despite a few inherent problems (kind of like the new Star Trek movie). So, yeah, might be worth a watch.

I haven't blogged in a few. Haven't had much to say, just kind of going through the motions. But, I beat Bioshock, and had some thoughts:
1. The game is both great looking, and ugly. The world of rapture is great, and most of the designs are good (aside from the Splicers). However, they are repeated constantly. I think there's only 2 Little Sister models in the entire game, and her face looks extremely odd.
2. A lot of the gene tonics didn't seem to do much. Sure there were a few that were necissary, but about a third seemed not needed.
3. End boss was super easy. Only used 2 health kits on him.
4. Got the good ending, but it felt slighted.
So yeah, good game, but I hope the sequel if/when it comes out fixes some of the short comings of it.
Nothing much else going on, playing a few games here and there, but that's about it. I got the Command & Conquer The First Decade game, and only had to type in 7 serial numbers. Way to make the process easy EA.

So, I need a bit of help. I have a CFW (M33-6) PSP 2000. And I need to set it up so the thing will auto shut off, in an hour, or 2 hours, or whenever. And if it starts back up, it either can't play the games, or won't be able to be turned on without a password.
So this is what I need:
1. Auto sleep timer program for PSP, for 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 hours. When 2 hours pass, or whenever, the PSP shuts off.
2. Program that either requires a password to turn the PSP back on, OR a program that when you try a game, it asks for a password to begin.
Maybe these things will curb my roomie's PSP obsession, so he doesn't play it for 5 hours without blinking.
If anyone knows of what I'm talking about, leave a comment, or message. I need help.

So, I'm on Twitter. I'm following the following catagories:
1. Game Journalists (all the GB crew, some of the more established GS crew, Leigh Alexander, Alex Navarro, and a few others)
2. Comedians (Patton Oswalt, Steve Agee, Adam Carolla, etc.)
3. Incredibly hot women (Elvira, Daphne Rosen, Summer Glau, Allison Mack -- who is my first follower, go her)
So...yeah.
Also, beating Dissidia now, like a red headed step child, due to codes. Infinite HP, Brave, and EX power. Good times.

The things:
1. Got Dissidia. It's an interesting little game. It looks amazing, and plays pretty well. I have issues with the completely garbage story, and the horrid voice acting. I've only beat it with Cloud and Squall, and it's a toss up over which one was more annoying. I'm hoping some of the other characters might be better, but I doubt Tidus will be.
2. Still going through Tomb Raider Anniversary. They give you a lot of ammo for guns you either don't have, or never use.
3. Watched some Lexx with few fiends. That was a good show.
4. Jeff Gerstmann is going on break next week over at GB. Kind of a bummer.
5. I'm toying with the idea of getting back into WoW for a month. On the good side, it IS fun (just killing crap), and plays well. On the bad side, I don't know anyone, and get nowhere in the game. So, again, kind of a toss up.
6. So, yesterday, my roomie Paul and I both did cool things. He did the "play as Master Hand" glitch in Smash Bros Melee, which is fairly neat. I managed to create a black hole using only 2 characters (Princess and Ice Climbers). So, that was cool for the both of us.
Ah well, catch everyone who bothers to read this, later.

So I installed 2 games (technically 3, but...yeah), here goes:
1. Dawn of War 2 -- having ZERO interest in the Warhammer 40K game, this was a bit of a long shot. But, Giant Bomb liked it, and other reviews were decent, so I gave it a shot. Everything people say is generally true. It's basically an RTS without the "S" part. You control 4 squads of guys, and move them from place to place trying to keep your guys alive, capturing control points, etc. It's a bit of a micromanage fest at times (like the stupid scout unit trying to attack the Ork's alone), but is pretty good. The loot system is simple though. Everyone is comparing this game to Diablo, and I barely see it. But, it's a pleasent enough game.
2. Tomb Raider Underworld -- installed it, and tried it, and it ran like garbage. Seriously, 3 minute load times, and choppy as hell (even on the lowest possible graphical setting). When I jumped, there was a 3 second freeze, between each jump. No thanks.
3. Then, Tomb Raider Anniversary -- installed fine, and it runs great. Really, like 10 second load times for the level, no slow down, looks great (especially Lara when wet), and plays like a dream. I like that this game barely has any combat in it. I did face the T-rex though.
4. Going to install Resident Evil 4 tonight, and have a bit of fun. Although the stupid quick time events are going to suck.
That's about it for now.

Ok, so this is going to be awesome. According to Wikipedia, Tim Burton is going to do a film version of 1984, for 2010. I'm not sure how real or not this is, but here goes:
Plans for a Tim Burton 1984 movie:
1. Cast Johnny Depp as Winston Smith. This'll be perfect. Casting an effeminate weirdo as a semi-broken everyman with an ulcer on his leg. On the flip side, the scenes with Winston being tortured will be funny, because, Depp can't act. Except in 21 Jumpstreet.
2. Cast Helena Bonham Carter as Julia. Since she's boning the director, and has been for the past 7 or so years, she hasn't had a need to really act (although outside of Fight Club, she hasn't acted in anything either). See her roles in Planet of the Apes, Corpse Bride, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd, Big Fish, and the new disaster Alice in Wonderland. Nepotism is NOT dead, ladies and gents. She'll be great as the 20 year old, free spirited, Julia, in this film.
3. Casting Christopher Lee as O'Brien, or perhaps Mr. Charrington. There are two kindly, but become sinister old guys in 1984. Hell, why not cut costs, and have Lee be both of them? Just because you don't understand the genius of Burton and his obsessive need to keep casting the same goddamn people in his films, regardless of if they're correct for the part at all. just because you don't understand it, makes it BRILLIANT.
4. Fill the movie with a lot of costumes, CGI, weird design choices, etc. A lot of crappy imagery, in a movie that is based on one of the most realistic novels ever.
5. Make Big Brother into a real character. After all, Tim Burton doesn't understand subtly, so having a main character who doesn't exist, is beyond him. So, just make him real, and hey, why not cast Johnny Depp as him as well? Dual roles.
6. Change the ending. Hey now, 1984 doesn't end on a happy note. The hero (Winston) is broken beyond belief, and nothing changes. Why not change it, so Winston ends up toppling Big Brother, gets the girl, and everyone lives happily ever after? Until he decides to make a sequel.
So that's it, that's how "Tim Burton's 1984" (if this is the actual title, I will have to hunt down and kill Tim Burton for being a pompous ass) will turn out.
Enjoy everyone.

Ok, this blog is going to be about Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. If you have zero interest in the game, or my screwball ranting, stop reading now.
I enjoy Marvel Ultimate Alliance. It wasn't as good as X-Men Legends 2, but still good. Some of the characters were interesting (Silver Surfer), had an "ok" roster (no Cyclops from the start annoys me), a decent story etc. etc. If I had to grade the first game, it'd probably be between a 7.5 and an 8.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 smacks of the worst kind of desperation. Mainly, running completely out of idea's, and still having to make the game.
Case in point, the 6 "press release" characters they've announced:
1. Juggernaunt -- was in X-Men Legends 2
2. Deadpool -- was at least in XML 2, and MUA 1
3. Gambit -- was in XML 1 and 2
4. Ms. Marvel -- was in MUA 1
5. Songbird -- My friend Ken said "Who?" and my response was, "Exactly". A B (or possibly C) string hero, who can create objects with sound.
6. Penance -- again, my friend Ken said "Who?", and I said, "emo kid". Penance was formerly Speedball, who flipped out during Civil War, and created a costume of 612 spikes to become "deep", etc. As Penance he can shoot energy blasts (like half the roster already). As Speedball, he was basically a kinetic human pinball, bouncing off of stuff. If Speedball (proper) was in the game, it'd be great.
So, of the 6 characters they've announced 4 have been in previous games (and likely will have the same powers from them as well), and 2 are so bland as to not be interesting.
Also, the purported roster (on Wiki) at least 23 characters in the game. Of those 23, 3 of them weren't in previous versions. Let me repeat this:
Of the 23 playable characters in MUA 2, only 3 (Green Goblin, Penance, and Song Bird) are actually NEW to the franchise.
Pathetic. And i'm not being sarcastic. If you're THAT devoid of creativity, it might be time to pack it in.
Add to this, the characters I did like from the previous games (Cyclops, Ice Man, Silver Surfer) aren't in this one, and will likely be downloadable paid content later on.
Also, the Marvel Universe is fairly big. Why not crib some heroes, or characters from other series? Darwin would be great, as well as Multiple Man, and Strong Guy. Mimic (or Synch), Mercury, Dust. Or hey, why not some villians? Dr. Octopus, Hobgoblin, Ruckus, Quentin Quire, or someone.
The story, from what is on wiki, basically is, "Yeah, we're gonna quickly tie up the Dr. Doom plot from the first one, and jump head first into Civil War." Great, so something that barely made sense in the first place is going to be in videogame form? I cannot wait.
The gameplay looks virtually unchanged from earlier games. That's both good and bad. Good in that the gameplay will still probably be decently fun, if not a bit bland. It's bad because they've been using the same formula for 4 games now, with no innovations (aside from the ill-fated concept now of "hey, you can combine powers in this game. Ignore that you could do that in the earlier games, and instead focus on it here."
This game is going to be a disaster. If you're not going to do it right, don't bother doing it at all.
