Remember SimCity? Remember what a joy it was to build up a fully functioning, living, breathing city, full of life and wonderment? Then, at some point down the road, after you've built up your city to the peak of its productiveness, you'd start mashing the disaster button and a wide variety of tornadoes, earthquakes, and fake Godzillas would come tromping through, laying firey waste to every bit of what you'd worked so painstakingly to create?

Yeah. It's a little bit like that. Except someone hit the disaster button for me.

This whole thing, makes me so furious i just wanna start punshing babies. I can just imagine how you guys must feel... But is this reversible, so to speak?

For many of us out here on the internets too Alex... We all hurt...

That is a bad analogy. City breaking disasters are fun. This is like, the opposite of fun.

I don't doubt it Alex. I do look forward for you to take a big role for this site in the future

Thanks for that, Alex. I was wondering when someone like yourself, a senior member of the team, would give their tuppence-worth. I'm glad it came sooner rather than later. There are still a wealth of extremely talented and dedicated staff at Gamespot, and I hope for your sake the suits at CNET get their finger out and try to do something to remedy this utter debacle.

I feel for you, Alex. Stay strong, my friend. You don't have to take this crap--you're too talented.

somebody hit the disaster button on this whole website, eventhough this website still has some of the most talented people, it has truely sunk to a new low by letting Jeff go.

This website has overstayed it's welcome in my bookmarks list , there is no room in it for kane and lynch & edios fansites like this one turned out to be.

I understand why it would be so shocking, god knows it was to the community

I have been a bit dissapointed by the reaction from the community, but I think it will get better once you take the leadership role

I look forward to seeing it!

I can only say to you and the rest of the staff to keep your heads up. If it should come down to it, you guys know you can all do better than an employer who doesn't seem to want to handle these things correctly.

Your avatar is pretty appropriate for this situation as well.

Good luck in all this, Alex.

    The madness continues.

Darn it, I have nothing good to add, it just seems to be a rather apocalyptic situation for GameSpot.

  • Draqq_Zyxorian

May I hit some Rock Band drums pads instead? At least that would be fun... But I don't know if any kind of fun can mask what you and the GameSpot staff are going through right now. I hope you're all able to move forward in the best way possible, in whatever way you all feel is right.

it's been a bad couple of days Alex... I think your analogy is right on the money. From the member side I can say I actually feel the same way. 5 years of being a member, building friendships... GS has been home, and it was all just stomped on. Thanks alot Godzilla.

I've made this website a habit for 6 or so years. Pretty much daily checking what's new, always snooping around for fun videos from the staff and blogs and none-professional opinions. Getting to know the GS crew anywhere I could.

I'm surprised how much this has affected me, never met a staff member, never been in that building. But damn is it hard to shake this reaction.

  • wonderboy_46

I can't belive whats been going on this week. Your analogy is perfect Alex. I hope you guys can salvage something from all of this, for the sake of the GameSpot name.

I'm with you there, Alex, replace Godzilla with a flood of angry player reviews in the mod queue... my town is ruined. *snif*

Seriously, though, Alex, keep you head up, like Chu said.

Sorry to see this happen to you and the rest of the editors, Alex. A lot of people are acting like it's all over, which may seem distressing to those still employed at GS, but I'm confident you guys can salvage it somehow.

Its sad to see Jeff go. And I feel sorry for you because im sure its a complete shock to the people working at GS. Alex please dont leave you are the only hope, with Greg Kasavin, and now Jeff Gerstmann gone.

Thanks for posting this - I'm really glad Bob, Carrie and Rich have weighed in, but for someone still onboard to say something is inspiring to the masses. People actually care about all of this; it always looked like Gamespot was a bunch of people who were having a good time, who were friends behind the scenes, having a genuine laugh when they were in the spotlight. People know these personalities - Gamespot was never faceless, people genuinely like you, and like Jeff, and Tor, and Brad, and so on. I hope good things for all of you.

Alex, your the last of my trusted 3. Respect of course goes to the other editors, but you, Jeff, and Greg kasavin, were my favorite 3 editors/reviewers. This is no joke, ive been coming here since i registeres to watch you 3 do reviews and articles, and i watch your guys on On the Spot and the Hotspot religiously. I was sad to see Greg go but i see his work at EA, whats Jeff gonna do?

Actually, wouldn't it be funny if Jeff got hired at Gametrailers.com?

anyways, im staying at gamespot, purely because your still here. Keep up the awesome work Alex, its not going to be the same without jeff though

Dear God, I hope this doesn't impact you (or any other GSers) severely. Come to think of it, of course it would since you're all in this together. I hope you guys bounce back, either at CNet/GS or elsewhere. This is truly a shame.

Alex, you have all of our support in what ever you decide to do. This whole situation is absolute BS and you guys deserve so much better. Good Luck with whatever you decide. We know who we can trust in this buisness, its just a matter of where we need to go to hear it.

I totally agree with danmp18. You, and everyone at GS deserves much better than this. It really saddens me to see that great people are so completely undermined by big corporate executives. I really hope that somehow Gamespot and all its people will be able to overcome this, but unfortunately these last few days are going to be etched in our memories forever.

If it were me I'd say the one pressing buttons to screw off and fix the city himself, while I would begin another city. I've never had a cool enough head to do what's best for me, though... but then again I live happier.

I've got two questions about this could you please answer them

    1) In Tims blog he asked when I'm I going to get invited to sing run to the hills and you suggested to do it to close OTS but now that Tim got all of those shoe boxes on his blog and has left is that him "running for the hills"

    2) Is this story legit
    http://valleywag.com/tech/jeff-gerstmann/gamespot-editor--on-fired-reviewer-328775.php

This thing just stinks, I understand you guys can't talk about this stuff but any information would be apprecated also If you are feeling rebelious raid TTV and say how disgusted you are there
