Additional episodic GTA IV content confirmed for 2009, PS3 possible
Take-Two has confirmed that it will release extra episodic content for GTA IV in 2009. The news came in a just-released financial statement, which also carried first confirmation of the 2K Marin-developed Bioshock 2.
"We also have significant visibility into fiscal 2009, which includes additional episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV, Mafia II, Borderlands', BioShock 2, our complete sports lineup, additional Nick Jr. titles under our agreement with Nickelodeon, and several new brands," said Take-Two CEO Ben Feder.
Previously in the statement, Feder had mentioned "episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV on Xbox 360″ as being cooked-in for the rest of 2008.
As no mention of platform was made for the 2009 content, speculation is already circulating that PS3 will be on the receiving end of the new material.- Posted Mar 12, 2008 8:08 am PT

11Jan 08Sure, I'm over them, but I'm in the clear minority; most of you lot can't get enough of achievement points. You crave them. Oh, except for people who own only a PS3. You don't. But you soon will, and not just in Home's promised "trophy shelf" system either. PSN boss Eric Lempel:
I know that an achievement system is very important to our consumers. With Home, and in addition to Home, we have some very exciting programs planned to recognize our consumers gaming skills and loyalty in new ways that go well beyond a single score.
In addition to Home? Well beyond a single score? Intriguing. And that whole business of rewarding loyalty...hints at a Club Nintendo-style members reward club, perhaps? Who knows, we're just thinking aloud, but we've thought aloud of things a lot more ridiculous than that.- Posted Jan 11, 2008 5:21 am PT

Ye and mutch playing guitar hero was rather ok, but i did not like the small content on the disk not so mutch song that i did want and it ended up being boring really fast so i sold , COD 4 was a good game to fun to play online but single player mode was to short sold that one to.
Pain and bowling was fun more like games you can pick up when ever you want and just have some fun with, if you want to add me on psn just add Mr_minux .
2008 will be rather good with new titles coming and blu-ray is winning hd movie thingy, så this will be a good year for PS3.

DivX Confirms PS3 DivX Support
A million Sony fans voices cheer out to the heavens as DivX announces that DivX video technology is being integrated into the PlayStation 3. The PS3's 2.0 update teased us by actually recognizing DivX files without actually playing them, and it turns out it was indeed an indicator of things to come. In fact, the 2.0 update added DivX functionality for developers to utilize, with users getting the feature with a future system update.
"We are excited to work with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring DivX to PS3," said Kevin Hell, CEO of DivX, Inc. "Our technology will expand the multimedia functionality of PS3 by enabling users to enjoy access to the broad library of content in the DivX digital media format."
Hell f***ing yes. That is all.DivX Technology to be Added to PLAYSTATION®3
DivX Ecosystem to Expand Significantly with PS3
TOKYO & SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DivX, Inc. (NASDAQ
IVX) today announced that DivX® video technology will be integrated into PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3TM) from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE). The popular computer entertainment system will be added to the ecosystem of devices that currently support DivX video playback. To date, over 100 million DivX Certified® products have been shipped into the market, and it is anticipated PS3 will significantly expand that number."We are excited to work with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring DivX to PS3," said Kevin Hell, CEO of DivX, Inc. "Our technology will expand the multimedia functionality of PS3 by enabling users to enjoy access to the broad library of content in the DivX digital media format."
Products that bear the DivX Certified logo have undergone a rigorous testing program to ensure a high-quality DivX media experience that includes reliable video playback and excellent visual quality. DivX is currently working to certify PS3 and deliver a superior digital media technology to consumers in the near future. Current PS3 end users will be able to add DivX functionality to their systems via a separate system software update at a forthcoming date. PS3 game title developers will be able to utilize DivX's decoder technology by updating the system software of PS3's Software Development Kit to version 2.00, which was released by SCE on November 2nd.

Konami Says This Gen Will be Totally Fair
Last generation was all about the PlayStation 2. (This generation is only sorta about the PS2, but w/e.) Sony isn't dominating like in year's past. Nintendo's come back from the dead and is posting very strong, early numbers. Meanwhile, Microsoft keeps forging ahead. Is it too early to call this gen's winner? Has the playing field leveled? Whenever I have questions like this, I wonder what Konami thinks. A statement from the company that Metal Gear and Pro Evolution Soccer built had these insights to offer:
Previously, a single home gaming platform [PS2] was the market leader worldwide, but that pattern has changed... Whichever platform best caters to users' preferences in a particular country or region, in terms of the games available to be played on it, is now the one that will dominate the local market.
Does that mean Konami is the new Capcom? PS3 exclusive MGS4 points to no. For now at least. You hear Nintendo fans speak in reverent tones of Mario's transition from 2D to 3D. Hushed tones, even. But while Mario 64 is great - a ****c, even - it's not beautiful. Not like this.
Well, you seemed to enjoy them last week, so we'll stick with the individual format charts. This week, Britain decides to go and do its best gun-and-wrastlin-lovin American impression. Look at all that Call of Duty! Look at all that wrestling! Look at Pro Evo all the way down there at #7! Amazing.

MS confirms downloadable Xbox games, free Carcassonne for Live anniv

To mark the fifth anniversary of the Xbox Live service, Microsoft will be offering Carcassonne (Hexic 2 in Korea) free to all subscribers for 48 hours starting at 12:01 a.m. EST on Nov. 15th (and presumably nothing to the peeps who already plunked down for the virtual board game), along with 500 Microsoft Points to the ten folks who've been on board since 2002 -- see kids, early adoption does pay off! In addition, Microsoft has confirmed earlier reports that 'Xbox Originals' will be made available for download starting Dec. 4th as part of the Fall Update (the update's additional features have yet to be revealed). Each game can be purchased and downloaded for 1200 points ($15).
In its press release, Microsoft explicitly named Halo, Psychonauts, Crimson Skies and Fable as titles for the Xbox Originals initiative, but did not confirm exactly which games will serve as the jumpoff: "This new service will launch with an array of blockbuster titles spanning the most popular genres from action-adventure to ****c role-playing games." Third-party reports claim the preliminary lineup will include Halo, Fable, Indigo Prophecy, Crimson Skies, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex and Burnout 3Alone in the Dark confirmed for Wii, PS2

What with its lingering financial worries and loss of licenses, Atari is a lot like a three-legged dog seen limping pitifully to the side of the road. We want to help, we do, but we've already got a perfectly good dog at home with all four legs intact. With so much hardship, it's evident that much of Atari's livelihood seems pinned on the success of the upcoming franchise reboot of Alone in the Dark, so it's unsurprising that the company has opted to release the survival horror title for the Wii (shown) and PlayStation 2 in addition to the previously announced versions in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
The long-delayed game, which marks the fifth title in the Alone in the Dark franchise, was first announced in 2005, and features a script penned by Sleepers author Lorenzo Carcaterra. Interestingly, however, while the earlier announced versions of the game are being developed by Test Drive Unlimited devs Eden, the Wii and PS2 duties have been handed off to French developer Hydravision, which has some survival horror chops themselves having developed the Obscure series of games. It's still anyone's guess when Alone in the Dark in any form will make it to retail, though considering that there hasn't been a decent title in the series since Edward Carnby's 1992 debut, we think we can wait.

29Oct 07Did 17th Century Japanese Doms Wear This?
MAKES NO SENSE. Those familiar with Toshihiro Nagoshi and his skin will not be shocked. The third installment in the series features what looks like a dominatrix in red leather clothes. In "Waterfall Training," the main character can get new skills if he is able to over his shameful desires. It's based on button pushing, so it actually more timing based than actually repression sure urges. Though, what's up with the gal's get-up? This PS3 exclusive is set in the 1605 Kyoto - no way they had shiny vinyl back then!
Fingers-, Eyes-On With Capcom's Art Book
Popped into Sydney's Kinokuniya book store over the weekend, and managed to pick up a copy of Udon's Art of Capcom. Well worth the AUD$60 I parted with. It's chock-full of rad sketches, comic covers and other art from the Capcom universe, the whole thing only let down by the fact that because Udon only really handle Capcom's comic adaptations, the thing's 60% Street Fighter, 30% DarkStalkers. "Other" franchises like Devil May Cry, Resident Evil and Megaman thus get minimal representation. Still. Who doesn't love Street Fighter?

Sony Predicts Games Unit Losses Will Double
The latest round of financial results for Sony didn't paint the games unit in the warmest, prettiest light. Next time around, though, it might be even worse. Sony announced today that they've doubled the projected losses for the games unit for the financial year (ending in March), the original estimate of a loss of ¥50 billion chucked out and replaced with an estimated loss of ¥100 billion. No reason was given for the rewrite, but the ¥126 billion they lost during the first half of the financial year probably had something to do with it.- Posted Oct 29, 2007 6:24 am PT

11Sep 07[Update: The PS3 listings have been removed from both games' official pages.]
Namco Bandai's official US website now shows Eternal Sonata and Beautiful Katamari coming to the PS3. Although Namco Bandai still won't come out in a press release and say it -- something they're accustomed to -- unless some web intern went on a bender, we'll take this as one-eyebrow-lift confirmation of both games for PS3.
For Beautiful Katamari there has been an epic saga of what console it'll end up rolling to. First it was all the systems, then it was for a few. It was even reported that it was going to XBLA for a little bit. Currently the Xbox 360 version has a release date of Oct. 16, with the PS3 and Wii are resting up with a case of the TBD.
As for Eternal Sonata on PS3, this backs up the information from April showing that the ESRB had rated Eternal Sonata for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. Oddly enough, now Eternal Sonata isn't listed by the ESRB at all, even though it had Teen rating before. No word on release or official announcement for PS3, but the Xbox 360 version of Eternal Sonata is expected next week.

11Sep 07As you've no doubt gathered from reading the site, we're multi-system. Most of the time that makes us extremely cool and a hit at parties, but there are times when it's a curse. For example, we're going to get Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii on Nov. 12, then just one week later we get Mass Effect on 360. That's bad, but now we find out we have to contend with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune being released on that exact same day. Yep, that pretty much confirms we won't have time for turkey and cranberry sauce this Thanksgiving (though we might make an exception for pie).
So, whether you can't afford a PS3, you're still desperately searching your local Toys 'R' Us for a Wii or you're left without a 360 thanks to the RRoD, just remember: It could be much worse -- you could have all three.- Posted Sep 11, 2007 12:28 pm PT

11Sep 07Sony has scheduled some preliminary Tool time, dating the Ratchet & Clank Future demo for October 4th, according to IGN. The demo will feature Tools of Destruction's opening level, as disclosed by Insomniac in an interview with thedaily.com.au. "[Resistance taught us] the importance of opening the game with a bang -- and that's just what we do," Insomniac told thedaily.com.au, "Players will get a sneak peek of this level via a downloadable demo that should hit the PlayStation Network Store in the not-too-distant future." Not-too-distant being just 23 days away.

Everyone knows the Wiimote's Ultimate Purpose, and it's not tennis. It's badass Jedi lightsabering. And while we've had faith the Wiimote would one day transcend to lightsaber status (beyond waggling), LucasArts' Mark Montuya has gone on the record to endorse the dream after recent silence on their front, calling the LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga "just a taster" for a future release of motion controlled lightsaber combat.
I feel bad in pointing out that the Wiimote's lack of relative motion sensing is probably making the job a programming nightmare. And if developers don't nail the project, it's tough to predict who will look worse: Nintendo or LucasArts. On a lighter note, we're getting Wii Lightsabers! Hooray!

We've heard this from a couple of sources independently now, and we feel relatively confident about passing it along. Apparently Gamestop managers meeting for their annual conference have been told that the Wii Zapper will launch with pack-in game Zelda Crossbow Training. As Ars Technica's source told them, "The game looked beautiful. I'm pretty sure it was running on the Twilight Princess engine. It's a third-person game, and you had some control over Link."
The best part? Reportedly, the Wii gun will still retail for $20, which just promoted the Zapper from "likely purchase " to "foregone conclusion." Hopefully we'll hear official word from Nintendo on this soon.- Posted Sep 10, 2007 9:07 am PT

10Sep 07The world of Eternity's Child sounds very depressing. Once a vibrant planet teeming with life, pollution cause the ice caps to melt, flooding the planet and killing a majority of life. In the aftermath, the wingless began a campaign of genocide against the winged creatures fueled by jealousy. Mechanical automatons were created to make the world seem less empty, but as all robots do they eventually turned, destroying life instead of imitating it...or maybe they just learned from watching their masters? The social commentary is thick in this former Xbox Live Arcade title, now making the switch to the Wii and DS due to size constraints. You play Angel, an orphan whose wings were amputated to ensure his survival, as he sets out on a quest to find others like himself. Rescued from XBLA limbo by UK publisher Alten8, the Wii version sports completely hand-drawn graphics and orchestral soundtrack, as well as two-player co op. Eternity's Child could end up the most beautifully depressing game ever.
Alten8 To Develop "Luc Bernard's Eternity's Child" For DS And Wii
Alten8 has agreed with Luc Bernard on the creation and publication of Nintendo DS and Wii versions of the Eternity's Child game , bringing this delightful creation to an even wider audience. Luc will be working closely with Alten8 to bring his creations to life on these formats
The story of Eternitys Child and the orphan 'Angel' - the planet on which Eternity's Child is set on. The planet was once filled with many living creatures and vast forests, however due to the pollution created by the habitants the icebergs melted and the whole planet was flooded and most of the creatures became extinct. The creatures without wings that were left became jealous of the ones with wings (that allowed them to survive the flooding), so the land creatures started murdering all the winged creatures until there was none left. To repopulate the world, many mechanical robots were created so that the world would not seem as empty as before, but most of those creatures got out of control and started attacking and destroying what was left.
Eternity's Child Wii version details -
Angel was left at the door of a orphanage when he was a baby, to protect him from being murdered his wings were cut off. The years went by as he stayed in that orphanage, not accepted by the other children and being often tortured and picked on. Angel then escapes from the orphanage to try to find any remaining creatures of his species and hoping to be accepted by them despite him not having his wings.
Details about Wii version -
* The entire game is hand drawn
* the animations are done traditionally by hand frame by frame (like old disney films)
* the soundtrack is all orchestral
* the game is an Interactive Fairytale
* there will be songs in the game like old disney films
* 2 player co operative mode will be availableDS version -
* the game will be a 3D platform game
* will not have the same story as the Wii versionRegular updates and information will appear on the Alten8 and the Eternitys Child web site.

10Sep 07While I'm completely skeptical here, Ars Technica's mole, who previously tipped them off on HDMI for the 360 and wired Xbox 360 Rock Band controllers is now telling them that Sony will be releasing yet another version of the PS3 for the holidays. This time it is a 40GB system for only $400 with a possible Spider-Man 3 Blu-ray pack-in. Also in the cards is a supposed price drop to $99 for the PS2. Here's what the mole says the holiday season will look like for Sony consoles:
* 80GB PlayStation 3: $499.99
While the 80GB price drop has been predicted by multiple analysts, I don't get why they would go to all the trouble to phase out two smaller hard drive versions of the system only to release a third. The PS2 is still selling strong, but the drop to $99 could very well make it the best-selling console of the holidays, especially if Wii shortages continue. Hopefully come TGS we'll have confirmation one way or the other. Until then, grain of salt people.
* 40GB PlayStation 3: $399.99
* Spider-Man 3 Blu-ray movie pack in with one, or both
* PlayStation 2: $99.99- Posted Sep 10, 2007 9:01 am PT
