Well...where to start.
Once again, I've disappeared after saying I'd be around for awhile...yeah, I know. I don't keep many promises when it comes to Gamespot. I've found a more fulfilling experience hanging out at the PlayStation.com forums and PS3forums.com. So, I wouldn't consider this a permanent stay of any sort but we'll see...again.
Graduation Coming Up
We'll, I'm on my last week of school. EVER. And it feels good. Come May 17th, it'll be my last day of High School and I'll be done with what I've been so tired of. It's been a long ass ride and I've had more bad times than good but all in itself, it was a unique experience. Word of advice - DON'T take an online course during your final year. I screwed around during the second semester of Algebra II and it came to bite me in the ass this year. I had my damn counselor telling me she has rarely (out of like 30 students taking the **** had someone pass Algebra II online. I knew this and went along with it anyway knowing that math in general wasn't my strong point. So for the past week or so, I've been stressed trying to get as much work done as possible before the 10th to take my Final for the course. To my surprise, I got a C on the spot for the exam and pulled a 74% average for the course itself. That .5 of a credit that was gonna keep me from graduating is no longer a problem. It was a very stressful experience because they were giving me stuff the Pre-Cal students were taking and the teacher was no help so if you want to avoid my situation, PAY ATTENTION IN ****AND GET IT DONE THE FIRST TIME AROUND.
PlayStation 3 in the Next Few Weeks...
I'll finally be able to get my PlayStation 3 in the coming weeks thanks to my Birthday (May 22nd) and Graduation (May 24th). If money permits, I'll see about an HDTV (nothing big, something that me and my cousins can play on in my small ass room) but I have my mind set on getting 2, or all 3 of: Virtua Fighter 5, Motorstorm, and/or Resistance. Afterwards, I'll be awaiting the coming lineup of great games, the first being Ninja Gaiden Sigma.
Square Enix Party 2007
With the recent party going on, there is a lot of games that just hit the radar. PSP seems to be getting a lot of love from Square Enix with Final Fantasy I, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy Tactics: Lion's War, Final Fantasy Dissidia, Star Ocean 1 Remake and a Star Ocean 2 Remake. Final Fantasy Dissidia really has my attention as it'll have Final Fantasy IX characters in it (glad to see Square hasn't forgot about them.) and it looks amazing. I'll be keeping an eye on Last Remnant until a trailer or some more info comes out for it.
Curiosity Killed My PlayStation 2
As mentioned above, I'll be getting a PlayStation 3, so I decided to take my PS2 apart for the hell of it
I've done it before (to adjust the laser level so it would load up games from startup quicker) but this time, I payed the price. While putting it back together, the silver strip that connects to the Power/Eject buttons came out from where it was connected
I'm sure I can probably find a way to fix it but yeah...bye bye PS2. I've looked online and they have replacement strips and my PS2 is out of warranty already and so I'm not gonna leave my little buddy like this. When I get some money from whenever I get a job, I'll order one and fix him right up. I wouldn't feel right leaving it like this after all the great games it's allowed me to play.Going Back to San Antonio
Because I'm finally out this year, I'll be heading back to San Antonio with my dad who is gonna help me get a car. Don't know what kind of car but I'll be finally able to drive and go places on my own. I'll no longer have to wait around for a family member to take me somewhere. So when I do get back here in Florida, me and my older cousin are gonna go look for a job so we can just carpool to work and finally have our own income and I'll be able to support my gaming/anime/comic book hobbies, and myself in general.
Future Job Possibility
Well, I was left in charge of making the DVD cover for our Senior DVD at school and one of the teachers that saw it apparently has a son who works advertisement for the Devil Rays. She said if I can get a portfolio together, she can show him and probably get me some work or even a scholarship to one of those specialtly colleges that specialize in Digital Design (I've been looking at Full Sail). So, I got something to fall back on if I need a job but I might go along with it. The teacher said that working freelance is like ~$30 an hour.
I just realized the word 'C-L-A-S-S' is censored
Good ol' Gamespot

10Apr 07I thought I've been getting PSM for the past 3-4 years as a loyal subscriber but I was shown different today. I was looking through some older issues that were stacked up and to my surprise, they go back as far as 2002. I didn't know I have been subscribed that long
Last issue on this term is June's (just got the May issue where they have some hands on time with DMC4 [16pgs], Turok, a lengthly interview with Jack Trentton, and they even have a nice screen of FFXIII's Shiva that I haven't seen before) so I need to resubscribe this month to make sure I don't miss an issue

Okay, I'm finding the checkpoint placements in Gears of War to be ridiculous. I'm at the Underground Pump Station where I have to secure the platform from the Locust with the Torque Bows and beside all the times that I've been killed at the part, the prior checkpoint f***ing sucks. It placed way back from the platform so when I die, I have to run quite a distance, walk as I listen to a communication, and then see the same damn "When's the last time the wind said..." cutscene. That's the most aggravating part. And I've come across other parts in the game where it's exactly the same (checkpoint is quite a bit away from where you died and there is a cutscene thrown in there for good measure
). Now being a shooter, it becomes on the repetitive/annoying side when you have to watch the damn thing every time you die, especially with the amount of the deaths you suffer from (Gears of War = enemies with the most 'Lucky Shots' ever
)Anyways, just wanted to vent as I'm about to go back at it...again...for the umpteenth time...

...and I don't know what the hell was going on throughout the game
I'm gonna go play through on Hardcore and Insane later (probably wait for my cousins to spend the night) but General RAAM went down in less than 2 minutes on Casual with the Longshot. Kind of wanted more of a challenge from him but I guess I'll get that when I ramp of the difficulty.Anyways, when I first started playing the game, I got this somewhat 'irk' feeling. I didn't get that 'Awesome' feeling from the game. I'll give it the 'graphics' but overall, something felt off. I don't really know. One of the things that bothers me is that a lot is mapped to the 'A' button. After I look over the 5 Acts, it seems a bit on the short side but there were some areas where I had some problems (ran into the Chainsaw or a rocket one too many times) so that sort of extended the gametime.
As I said, I'll play through it again on the harder difficulties but right now, it's a 7.5-8/10. I'll try out multiplayer with my cousins so I'll hold out on that. I guess I was expecting more due to all the game sites, mags, and talk about it

25Dec 06Just want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and hope you all enjoy yourselves.
I received The Outfit, GRAW (again), Wireless Gaming Adapter, Underworld: Evolution DVD, and $250 + $20 gift card.
I'll be returning the first 3 items though (don't want the first nor do I plan to play it, already had the second and traded it in, and I prefer being wired).- Posted Dec 25, 2006 11:00 am PT

16Dec 06Hey everyone. Sorry for the sudden "leave of absence" but I was pretty fed up with Gamespot. I've been hanging out at a few other forums/sites since then but I just couldn't shake the feeling of throwing away all the time I've spent here and making so many friends so I decided to put this site back on the list of "Boards I Visit". Expect to see me around a hell lot more and once again, sorry for the sudden leave.

Well, here are how things are going to go as of now "gaming-wise":
I will keep adding to my PS3 funds over the next few months, but as of now, I probably won't be able to get one till early-mid 07. (March to May being the earliest). By then, if any problems arise from launch, they can be handled and a few more games will be out by then. (This has nothing to do with me "doubting" the system's launch or anything of that matter [you people know me
] but more of a "funds" issue.)
Until then, I'll keep myself occupied here and there with a few of these titles which I plan to purchase:- Gears of War [360]
- Smackdown vs RAW 07 [360]
- Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 [360]
- Valkyrie Profile Lenneth [PSP]
- Valkyrie Profile Silmeria [PS2]
- Soul Calibur 3 [PS2]
- Resident Evil 4 [PS2]
- SOCOM 3 (or possibly Combined Assault) [PS2]
- Shadow of the Colossus [PS2]
- Devil May Cry Anniversary Collection [PS2]
I may even, in preparation for PS3, pick up Gundam: Crossfire and Resistance before then.- Posted Nov 8, 2006 2:27 pm PT

1Nov 06I've awaited this day. I finally got my copy of Final Fantasy XII. I
picked up (had preordered) the Collector's Edition and also picked up
the Limited Edition guide (didn't get the Fran cover like I wanted but
instead got Baltheir). Everything was well worth it. The guide alone is
nearly pushing 400pgs and there is the bonus art book which was worth
the extra money.
I've so far logged 5+ hrs on it but I'm gonna start clean tomorrow.
Reason? I glanced through the beginning half of the guide after playing
that far into the game and saw that the strongest weapon in the game,
which is a Spear, is only obtainable by avoiding opening 4 specific
chests. I plan to make Fran my lead character so I was gonna focus her
with Spears and Bows and I don't want to pass up the Spear for her.
So as soon as I get home from school tomorrow (~4:30PM) and till
3:30AM, nonstop Final Fantasy XII gaming session. I'm off to bed now.
Can't wait to play it again tomorrow.
[Also on a side note, because of the lovely guide, I'm going to have to rearrange my top drawer where some of my games go. I'm gonna move out some of the other game and only leave room for the FFXII Guide (I'll just put my copy of FFXII on top of it), my select few gems (RPGs and my favorite games), and PSM magazines. Gotta do that tomorrow probably before I start playing FFXII.]- Posted Nov 1, 2006 12:37 am PT

30Oct 06We are now a few hours away from the long awaited release of Final Fantasy XII!!! I can't wait to pick up my Collector's Edition and Collector's Edition Guide tomorrow!!! I preordered the game as soon as the CE version was announced.
EB Games has been pissing me off though. I called Sunday and asked about the CE Guide and the nub on the phone asked if I had preordered. I said no and he said they only had enough copies to give to preorderers at that time. He went on to tell me to come and put the money down on a copy anyway and I could pick it up tomorrow (which is today). So my bro goes up there and comes home and tells me that they told him to come back tomorrow (which is today) and pick it up. I was like "OK".
As soon as I get home from school today, he calls and tells me that they won't let him pick up a copy because I didn't preorder and that I would have to come up there and get it tomorrow when the game is released
They pretty much told him the same sh!t they told be over the phone the day before. So now, I have to wait yet again for the CE Guide.
NOTHING BETTER NOT COME UP TOMORROW TO THE POINT WHERE I CAN'T GET THE GAME OTHERWISE I'M GONNA BE PISSED AS HELL!!!!

24Oct 06I'm starting to get irritated that I have yet to receive my PSM or OXM yet in the mail and it's going on the 25th. I've always received them in the late teens of the month and now I've come yet again to no mag. Hell, there have been people posting about getting the new OXM from stores already and me, a subscriber, have yet to receive mine

It may be just a "little" thing to be worried about, but I'm missing out on my monthly reading due to this delay in receiving them

22Oct 06Those who own a PSP I'm sure know what Lumines is. To me, it's an addictive puzzle game with vibrant, hypnotic colors, catchy music, and great controls. Lumines Live on Xbox Live Arcade is another story.
After just playing the trial version, the game feels like it lost a lot in translation. The controls for one are way off to me. For those who've played it on PSP, everything was simplistic and easy to do. On 360 however, I found switching blocks around to be a hassle. When switching blocks, the colors would come up different from how I wanted them to resulting in a lot of missed chances to score. On PSP, it felt so natural and easy to do but on the 360, I find myself struggling to earn points. On the PSP, I could look at the block set as soon as it appeared onscreen and scan the already placed blocks and have the current one falling already set up ready to score but not on the 360. I'm not sure if it's due to the screen size throwing me off or what
I also found the bonus multiplier on the Lumines Live very annoying. It's a big ass white arrow that pops up at the top of the screen which stands out too much for me.
The game just feels too different from the Lumines I remember and loved on PSP. Plus they botched it to put it on Live by offering it in a standard pack at 1200 MSPs and then adding additional follow up levels for 600 MSPs. Now some would argue it's the "cheaper" route to go compared to the PSP versions but I say different. The original Lumines for PSP is going at $20 as a Greatest Hits I believe and Lumines II, which is yet to be released, is retailing for $30. Now note, that the PSP versions are a full package. 1200 MSPs (~$15) + X 600 MSPs add-ons to equal a full game costs more than the original and ~ equals the sequels price.
I'd rather stick with the PSP versions. Lumines just feels designed for it's control scheme (I just can't seem to adjust to it on 360) and just doesn't play right for me on a large screen (as odd as that sounds).- Posted Oct 22, 2006 5:09 am PT

10Oct 06
Okay, as many of you know, I'm a HUGE RPG fan. As of now, I have a nearly full payed off preorder on Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 (~$60) which comes out in November. Well, throughout this month, 2 very eye catching games are being released: Level 5's last PS2 outting and the amazingly beautiful, Rogue Galaxy and Sega's fun looking and online RPG, Phantasy Star Universe (X360).
Now, the reason for this post is, I've been wondering (since yesterday) if I should move the preorder over to one of the 2 said games. Both just look too awesome to pass up upon their release. Another reason is I feel like having a 1-2 combo this month in the RPG department (I have Final Fantasy XII Collector's Edition preordered and payed off in full).
I can take care of Rogue Galaxy if my dad ends up sending money like he usually does cause it's only $40.....I gotta think about the other 2 though
EDIT: Nevermind. I looked around Wikipedia at the Rogue Galaxy page and they, like a few other gaming sites, are showing an early 2007 release for Rogue Galaxy. I read in PSM and another online site that it had been confirmed for October 06
This is a breathe of fresh air for me though. So I guess I'll keep the preorder and see what my dad sends first and use that towards PSU.

9Oct 06Is anyone else tired of the "What games do you want to see on PS3/360?" threads?
Example
And they always end up being exclusives to the consoles
If you're so concerned with wanting to play exclusives from another console, that should be reason enough to warrant the purchase of the console itself (some think they are having to pay full price for the console. Do you ever think about "down the road" when the console is $100-200 range and games that you were interested in are $20-30?).
It's one of those "pet peeves" for me. Seeing Xbox fans mention Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts (yes, I've seen some mention it when the fanbase is entirely on a Playstation console
) Devil May Cry, Resistance: Fall of Man and other games that have zero chance (1st party / lack of fanbase, etc.)
Same for Playstation fans who mention Dead Rising, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, etc.
And what really gets me is when they mention games that the fanbase in general has bashed. Xbox fans have bashed Final Fantasy ("metro" leads), Kingdom Hearts ("kiddy"), Metal Gear Solid ("Movie Gear Solid", "not realistic"). Playstation fans have bashed Ninja Gaiden in the countless "Action Game War" that takes place in SW (God of War vs Devil May Cry vs Ninja Gaiden) and even Oblivion but now that they got it, it's all good
Fanboys sicken me.
I've seen (most notably on the 360 side when they make these threads) that people mention that they want games NOT to play them, but just so the other side (Playstation) doesn't have them
What the **** has happened to gamers? Seriously.
And I'm not blaming the entire populations of a fanbase in general but a majority of it. And I know that most of the responses from the 360 side are from "defectors" who were once Playstation fans but who seem "pissed off at Sony" so they "Jumped In" with the 360 and now expect their favorite Playstation franchises to follow suit with them
So in other words, majority of the "Xbox" side is ex-Playstation fans pissing me off.

25Aug 06It seems Sony decided to skipped out on a conference for the Leipzig Game Convention and decided to hold all their cards till this year's Tokyo Game Show later next month. I'm surprised to see that Sony doesn't seem pressured by all the "negative" press they've received since E3 and have decided to hold out on all relative info (final launch list, online plans, other features, etc.) until September.
Can't wait till Tokyo Game Show though. 27 playable PS3 games (Devil May Cry 4, Heavenly Sword, Lair and Resistance among them) with 8 of them being mystery titles, final launch game list, online plans revealed in detail, more info on some highly anticipated games, new game announcements, Sony's keynote speech, etc. A lot to look forward to.
Also I'm happy to hear the announcement of an Assassin's Creed demo scheduled before the game is released for the PS3. Really looking forward to that too.
The Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer that was released was also very interesting. Despite not having anything to reveal story wise, it seems the whole point was to show you how lethal the new Metal Gears are. They are truly devastating. Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops is also looking to be a great game. The recruitment system seems to have a lot of thought put into it with different allies to recruit at different hotspots, allies with unique skills/weapons, and the way they'll play out on the field (switch between them across the whole map).- Posted Aug 25, 2006 7:19 pm PT

24Aug 06A great issue I must say. In the October 06 issue of Playstation Magazine (PSM), they ended of reviewing some of PS2's most anticipated games to say the least (some that I'm very looking forward to). The way I'm gonna do this is pretty much just cover the things that interest me (reviews, previews, etc.) and at the end, post all the reviews and previews for anyone that's interested in other stuff. If there is something you want more about or specifics from articles, just ask and I'll type it up for you

REVIEWS:
-----
The Final Fantasy XII review is "14-pages" long and pretty much gives you an overview of what to expect of the game. They cover pretty much all the new implemented systems and explain them in detail too. The review is a really good read and after reading it, only made me want the game more (it's FFXII so I find it hard to believe that I could want any more than I already do) but it doesn't hit till Oct 31st.
-----
They also reviewed the highly anticipated Okami, dubbing it on the cover as "PS2's Zelda". They go on in the review to say that the game itself starts off slow but really picks up after that. The game pushes in past the 30hrs mark without doing everything. "The game is a unique experience that cannot be missed on the PS2" pretty much sums it up. I'm definetaly going to pick this one up.
-----
Xenosaga Ep III: Also Sprach Zarathustra was also reviewed in this issue and ends the trilogy on the PS2 but the devs have said this will only end the "Shion Arc". Shops and money make their return in this installment (thank you) and the game has reworked the battle system to being the best of the 3 it seems. The skill system also takes a "FFX's Sphere Grid" sort of approach so character customization is key.
-----
Yakuza also got a pretty solid score and seems to be something I'll enjoy. It's like GTA (which I dislike btw) but more story driven. It's built around an experience system and you can do a lot of different things (visit hostess bars, bat at the batting cages, eat some noodles, etc.). They also say there are a lot of "F-Bombs" dropped.
-----
PREVIEWS:
Final Fantasy XIII has a few details revealed about it. All 3 games (XIII, Versus XIII, and Agito XIII) all take place in one constant universe, telling a cohesive story through disparate parts, though each features different worlds, characters, and gameplay. The PR Manager, Kakuko Obinata says "It's an ambitious project even on paper, and that's one of the reasons it was decided that the project would be created specifically for the PS3 (excluding Agito)." They aim to achieve Advent Children's level of details and animation but only in real time.
The deal on the E3 trailer? Here it is for people who still doubt it:
"For Final Fantasy XIII, we wanted to showcase the power of the White Engine by displaying how far our graphics have evolved. Some elements of the trailer were CG, but the bulk of it was real-time graphics being powered by the White Engine. The fact that people have a hard time telling the difference makes us proud in that we've created a system that can produce graphics on par with CG. In the end, we feel that it's possible to create real-time graphics taht are on par with our trademark CG."
-----
The Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops team dropped some info on how the "recruit" system would work in a sense. At the start of missions, you are given the option of picking 3 other soldiers to aid you in the mission. These soldiers each have special skills/abilities and weapons. They'll be spread out around the map and you'll be able to swap between them and view an overhead map to know where they are at all the time. They're still holding out on how to actual recruit soldiers but they are wanting you think about either killing lone soldiers or having them join you.
-----
Half-Life 2 is previewed in this issue and with the release on PS3, finally gives me a chance to take a shot at the series. The Half-Life 2 package when released will include Episode 1 & 2 (with a 3rd Episode still to be released), Team Fortress 2, and Portal. They are still unclear if Counter-Strike will make it's way to consoles in this package though.
-----
The Darkness is one of my most anticipated and I'm glad they previewed it this issue. They talk about the in-game TVs (hundreds of them) having full length shows running on them and be fully tunable to an assortment of channels such as: cartoons, nature shows, etc. Movie to be released in 2007. Still unclear on this game's release though. Starbreeze's site last time I checkes said 06 and PSM just says "Fall" but IGN has said Feb 07 on several occasions.....have to wait and see it seems....
