Unreal Tournament is the best first-person shooter I have ever played. This game is flawless. It has perfect weapon balance, map design, and a variety of gametypes to play. While Quake 3: Arena is excellent, UT rises above it with stellar variety and flexibility. UT also runs flawlessly on modern and old computers thanks to its excellent engine. UT is tons of fun at LAN parties and is something any computer could play. For older computers made in the late 90s, UT can handle them thanks to the software renderer, which allows you to play without a 3D card. Another plus is that UT can run at any resolution, even strange ones most games would not support. The maps are epic. Flying spaceships, castles, pirate ships, what other FPS lets you fight in environments like this? The weapons are less generic than Quake 3's weapons, all of which except the gauntlet come from Doom and Quake. Many of UT's weapons combine multiple functions with primary and alternate fire, the rocket launcher doubles as a grenade launcher, for example. While UT is a super fast paced FPS by today's standards, it is a little less hectic than Quake 3, which is for better or worse depending on your style of play. Overall, I am certain that Unreal Tournament is the best FPS ever made.
