An "arcade style" FPS with a quick learning curve that balances perfectly with it's difficulty.

User Rating: 10 | Unreal Tournament 2004: Editor's Choice Edition PC
I've played UT2k4 since it came out. I've purchased this game on Steam once and I also purchased it locally 3 or 4 times. I keep coming back to it because it's just so very good.

I tend to complain about quite a few games because I feel like all the 10 point reviews do little to show the depth of the game the user is reviewing. I don't think I have ever given a 10 point review before. But the fact is that this game is utterly flawless.

The difficulty is a perfect balance. There is a really quick learning curve, you jump right into the game and right into the action. I consider this "arcade style" because a lot of the weapons are intentionally overpowered. I'm not talking about 1 hit blasts, but some of the people playing this have been playing for a really long time, so they know all the tricks and are used to all the vehicles. It's a catch up game, especially considering the potential damage most vehicles and weapons can cause, but the difficulty is in a perfect balance. I honestly have very little to speak of about it but it's still one of the most important factors involved in what makes this game so great.

Onslaught is where it's at for me and there are literally hundreds of maps for it. The servers sometimes code up custom vehicles for their maps so the game has progressed quite far from where it began when I first started playing.

A lot of people are big on graphics these days but I wish they would stick to something more solid like this. Everyone should be able to play this and the graphics are GOOD ENOUGH for the love of god. This allows larger servers, faster downloads and I've NEVER had ANY issues running this game, even when it first came out and my system was junk (it isn't today).

But this is what I am used to, and when it comes to Unreal Tournament, most people stick to the version they are used to. This game is what made me stop playing Starsiege tribes after sooo many years of playing on the shifter mods.

And the people playing this game are great. They are true gamers and the servers are large & fast, just like you want them to be. Save the servers to your favorites and you will never have to worry about the Master Server going offline, which it does periodically ... for whatever reason. But just get the IP and add it to your favorites just like you would with Steam favorites for Valve games.

There is no reason any FPS fan should not buy this game. Even if you used to play it; buy it on Steam and come join the rest of us up on the Onslaught servers.

Look at my reviews. I am a very serious customer and I don't hold back any punches, but this time I have no punches to throw. This game is utterly perfect. It is second only to my beloved Starsiege Tribes, which I do not play anymore, but I will likely ALWAYS play this ... and so should you.

10 out of 10, and I have no hesitation giving that rating what_so_ever. Changing this game in any way from this point would only hurt it. It's just that freaking perfect.

BUY THIS. Trust me.
