Excellent pack!
UT2004 as well as UT99 have aged VERY well over the years and UT99 is still one game I still play.. UT04 for onslaught.. :)
Presentation lackluster? umm no.. far from the game ALLOWS YOU to choose what you want to install.. when other compilations FORCE you to install everything.. one example is the NWN Plat edition.. you MUST install everything in order to play.. hmmm now THAT IS POOR presentation.. Okay now the breakdown.. I have played Unreal and its expansion in the UT Gold pack a few years back.. and purchased UT99 upon release along with 03 n 04.. I ended up tossing 03 since 04 is the exact same game just BETTER.. :)
Graphics/Gameplay : Excellent even 04 which uses 03 graphics still looks darn good! UT99 still looks impressive.. but I do have to say I played Unreal 2 when it was released and although the graphics were pretty killer back then the graphics just don't amaze me now.. I guess because I didn't really enjoy the game back then either.. Unreal 1 though seems like HL1 does now.. a bit sterile since FPSs have advanced way beyond that.. curious because UT99 and 04 still hold my interest and I still play them.. I guess it just boils down to a single thing.. multiplayer that makes both UTs so much better.. who knows.. but I digress, Unreal 1 with its expansion is a great single player game but I hesitate in offering it to newcomers due to its age.. many new players find HL1 to be "poor" as well due to its age.. I guess it is a game best left to us old timers who played it upon release.. Anyway they should be played even while kicking and screaming since the game did start the whole franchise off :)
Sound: Excellent music.. this is what Unreal is known for.. its excellent musical scores.. even the sound effects/announcers are perfect.. Value: more than enough to last you years.. UT and UT04 are just two games that will occupy most of your time.. far moreso than the ripoff Quake 3 Arena.. (yes ripoff since UT99 was first) :) Tilt: I give it a straight 10 for being a great compilation one required to every FPS fan :)
