I bought universal combat out of impulse,
I won't lie, the game is not pretty, it doesn't function well, it takes a mammoth book to read, just to play the friggen game.
Universal Combat is a unique experience, whether good or bad, it will stick with you, you will end up searching the net for a game as similar, and big as universal combat, but end up failing, because there isn't. Here's what it offers,
A giant universe to explore, in a giant space cruiser, or fighter ship, or whatever you wish.
You can land on any planet get out of the cruiser and walk around.
It is BIG, but its also very empty, there isn't much at all to the game world, planets are covered by an endless amount of cardboard looking trees and animals, not many buildings, and blocky landscapes , which is very disappointing. Essentially it tries to be a bigger game than it should be. I really like the concept of being able to land on every planet and "explore" it, but it offers little to the imagination due to the lacking features.
It being big isn't just the universe. its also the friggen manual that's BIG, its huge, and a pain in the you know what to operate any of the vehicles and ships in the game, there is a control for everything, which essentially isn't a bad thing, it makes you feel like a real pilot, but the learning curve can be annoying when you just want to explore a planet, and figure out how to land on it, really sucks....
The graphics, are by far the most disappointing thing about the game, its blocky, ugly as hell and empty... along with the sound, just ugly ugly ugly.
I will give the developers credit, for what the game is, it is worth picking up for the sake of the sheer openendedness of the game
The ideas behind the game could work, but unfortunately were not implemented well enough!
they need to rework their game, make the graphics better, maybe put some things worth exploring on the planets, and overall make it easier to play.
It could be a good game, but it ends up being disappointing in a way, but for some reason I come back for more because in all honesty there is not other game out there like this game, and that's a good thing
Kudos to 3000AD inc for trying to make a dream game that doesn't work the way it should,
its a good concept, but it really needs work!

A fantastic template for the Game of Dreams, but falls way, way short for the Game of Now. So Huge, So Empty, So Tragic!
