The first third person tactical shooter on Vita from the creators of SOCOM.

User Rating: 7.5 | Unit 13 VITA
You can play as one of the six special ops. A couple of Americans, a British dude, a Frenchie and others.

Each has his own abilities and skills. There is a sniper, a stealth specialist, a commando, a technician, a gunner and a point man. As you progress through the 10 levels, you automatic upgrades to your weapon handling abilities like less recoil, more ammo, etc. You also unlock new weapons like M14 and Mk20.

This game consists of 36 isolated missions that range from urban back-alley settings, an oil refinery, metro, air base, hotel, prison, embassy, and a market place. There are time-sensitive missions, assault missions, stealth missions, assassination missions, etc. However personally, I like a shooter with some kind of a story. Before you start a mission, you get a recommended operative whose skills will be applied applied to the mission. Then you load, you get the insertion point, you get the mission objective; you get the map which unfortunately displays enemies (makes the game easier) as well as displays which direction they are looking so it's easy to sneak up on them; and then you

The controls are incredibly responsive and smooth however, since this is still a controller layout and not a mouse you may get easily killed when an enemy runs sideways 12 feet away from you and shoots you dead because you cannot aim that fast and well up close. So that's kind of a downer because you constantly have to make sure to keep distance between enemies.

And it's kind of patronizing, at least in my case, because auto-aim is constantly enabled, it is subtle, but it's there. So when you aim at someone (in the vicinity of the head), your aim will automatically be redirected to your foe's head for about 0.5-1 seconds.

It's also good that you can easily die in this game. There is health regeneration but I absolutely love the few elite missions that are out there. They get progressively longer and harder and you cannot health regenerate in those missions until you reach a certain checkpoint (I'd rather have no health regeneration in this game at all). So those missions reminded me of the good old days of Call of Duty 1 and United Offensive on Veteran mode where there were no med kits.

I also tried the online co-op which is quite neat, although the very few people that I was able to play with got shot quickly. They either rushed ahead or they lagged behind and I had to come rescue them.

As for the enemy AI, well they are your typical terrorists who sometimes kind of make fun of themselves. They patrol, stand around and guard locations. They have conversations between themselves and they mumble so that kind of helps to create an impression that you are fighting actual people. They will take cover and they will more or less try to flank you. When they hide behind a container and you try to circle around, they will sometimes circle in the other direction as if you are playing a game of tag. Their aim is good and their alertness has to be monitored. When you slash someone with a knife silently, you kind of have to wait for the cool down effect before taking out someone else if you don't want the alarm to go off.

The AI itself is good for the most part. They will react to sound but sometimes stand around without being cautious just waiting to get shot, kind of like in the last 2 Rainbow Six Vegas games.

There are reward points that you get for getting CQB streaks or headshot streaks or stealth streaks that add up to your mission rating and ultimately how much experience you are going to get.

The graphics are realistic but kind of grayish. There aren't that many colors but otherwise everything looks pretty good.

Ultimately, this is a third person corridor shooter. There are several ways to approach your objective so at least this is not a linear shooter. You get the co-op multiplayer only (no vs.), you get good quality shooting and controls, you get upgrades and various ways to play and replay missions.

However the lack of story and thus the lack of emotional involvement in the conflict (whatever it is), the absence of cinematic movies, the absence of interaction between the six operatives, the lack of impressive various locations; little level versatility and thus little sense of danger or suspense, the sometimes weird enemy behavior take a slight toll.

Solid 7.5 and not a 7.0 because there aren't any other third person tactical shooters on PS Vita as of this moment.
