Wii-U-Logo.png

Figured we could use one of these, sorta like the 3DS thread where we can post all Wii U related things.

Anyways, here is some stuff we learned yesterday that I took from the E3 thread

-

Nintendo Direct Pre E3 Wiiu Video Presentation

- Nintendo began discussing what they should do with Wii U back in 2008
- Nintendo wants to unite people with Wii U rather than separate them
- controller is called the Wii U GamePad

form.png

- control sticks can be pushed down, button layout has been changed to maximize comfort - mystery square is the NFC reader/writer

nfc.png

- controller can act as a TV remote
- controller features motion and gyro sensors
- Wii U supports Wiimote, Nunchuk, Balance Board

longer.png

- Wii U menu system called Mii Wara Wara, a plaza full of Miis saying all sorts of things
- view your Mii, Miis on your system, your friend's Miis and Miis in the same country having similar experiences
- The Miiverse lets you see what friends are doing, even if you don't have the same games as them
- bring up the Miiverse during gameplay as well
- communication between Miis can happen via text messages, but can also be viewed/used via the Wii U GamePad
- hand-write notes or make doodles on the GamePad for the Miiverse
- Miiverse allows you to add facial expressions for your Mii
- post screenshots from gameplay, or content that you've created yourself
- Miiverse can be accessed by all games via home button

- Miiverse can be used with games that don't feature online interactions
- these interactions are browser-based. After launch, you can access Miiverse on your PC, 3DS or any web-enabled mobile device
- Miiverse keeps future Nintendo devices in mind, whatever they may be
- Wii U internet browser lets you share what's on the Game Pad via your TV
- close a virtual curtain over a TV screen to keep what you're browsing on the Game Pad a secret, reveal when you want to

Assassin's Creed 3 Wii U (October 2012)

Also, Watch Dogs *faints* They should release it on Wii U!.

I think ZombiU will be demonstrated on Nintendo's E3 presentation.

Wii Virtual Console games can be transferred to Wii U

"In an interview with ABC News, Scott Moffitt, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Nintendo, said that in addition to Wii discs being backwards-compatible on the new Wii U, digital game collections purchased over the Wii Virtual Console will also be transferable over to the Wii U, likely remaining at standard definition."

The article also goes on to discuss the brightness setting on the Wii U gamepad and some other details.

Wii U launching in white...black sometime later

We know for sure that the Wii U is going to launch in white. This was confirmed by a Nintendo rep. Will the Wii U see a release of the black version shown at E3 2012? Indeed it will, but no date was given for that color choice. Looks like it's white right off the bat...and that's it!

It would seem the WiiU only comes in white at launch based on this article, and I gotta say this displeases me greatly. Why would they do this when its so heavily shown all around the conference? Especially when i want one so bad at launch.

Watch Dogs not coming to Wii U as of right now, but that could change

"Not at this time. We have so many titles in development for Wii U right now that we need to keep that team focused and this is a very very ambitious game. But it's not out of the question." - Ubisoft senior vice president of sales and marketing Tony Key

Miyamoto discusses the idea of Wii U and 3DS working together

But as far as the idea of connectivity, there are a number of different examples that we could think of. So for example, if you think about Nintendogs as a game that you play on Nintendo 3DS, and having that similar two-screen structure, it would be very easy to create a Nintendogs that perhaps would allow you to take your Nintendogs data for the dog that you have on your Nintendo 3DS and bring that into the living room on a larger screen where the entire family could enjoy seeing you play with your dog on the bigger screen.

On stage, I talked a little bit more about how some of the uses of this screen, independent of the television, can allow for some of those unique experiences that cross between these two screens, rather than talking specifically about connectivity. But of course, given the long experience that we have trying out different things in that connectivity space, we'll certainly build on that as we continue to think about what the possibilities might be. And of coruse we have, taking the example of something like the Miis, which originated on the Wii hardware, and have now migrated over towards the 3DS hardware, and as you can see they're also taking a prominent role in the Wii U hardware...

What this does is it creates a sort of unique dynamic, where on the Nintendo 3DS, you have the StreetPass data that you get by walking past people in real life and connecting with them, and on the Wii U, you have a similar type of connection with people, but it happens over the internet. So I think that can also create some interesting dynamics in terms of what we can do with that type of experience. - Shigeru Miyamoto

Entertainment Weekly interview with Shigeru Miyamoto

-Pikmin 3 has been in devolopment for 5 years
-Pikmin 3 on Wii U started 2 years ago
-Brought Pikmin 3 to Wii U because of processing power
-Wanted a title to show off the HD of the system
-On making Zelda for Wii U:

"What is the most important element of Zelda if we were to try to make a Zelda game that a lot of people can play?" So we have a number of different experiments going on, and [when] we decide that we've found the right one of those to really help bring Zelda to a very big audience, then we'll be happy to announce it."

-Miyamoto says there were some people who got tired or didn't like the motion controls for Skyward Sword
-They are looking back at what worked and to improve what didn't
-Miyamoto has been watching a lot of Japanese television (We know his hobbies often influence his games)
-He likes the idea of a artist drawing a manga of what he wants, then seeing it come to television of movies
-He plays guitar to get away from working on games
-He will record a bit of music he likes with his 3DS, will slow it down to figure out how they did it

id wait for a black!!!

its not like id buy it at release anyway - need games for it!!!
im sure the theme-park one will basically be a game like they said to show of all a wiiu can do while all nintendos first party have an attraction each maybe?
basically i think that game should come with the console - we got wiisport with the wii - why not this with the wiiu?
common - u can play several and shows of the potential of wiiu
so id say it should come with the wiiu

Lol, the Non Specific Action Figure seems to be getting pretty popular . With such love from Mr. Iwata, I wonder if he will pull strings for him to be in the next smash bros in some way, lol.

Me thinks RMC of gonintendo is too optimistic

And i like the design of the controller that was first shown, the one that looks closer to the xbox controller honestly. The one on the show floor looks like a bloated genesis controller lol.

That's the problem. If Nintendo can't get 3rd Party games from this generation (PS360). Then they are in a big trouble.

well watchdog looks awesome and its ubisoft right? (correct me if im mixing it up with another game i want)

and wiiu will already get assassins creed 3 like everyone else so the company itself is already supporting wiiu with the multicross platform games

but in all honesty its not those games that all console gets that worries me - thing is unlike wiiu is the better version due to some extra cool thing with it - ill buy ps3 always - sorry but trophies and that i got a huge collection etc already

its the third party games no other console will get im interested in - atlus - show us a unique twist on the co op for trauma center - one use wii remote and one use the main controller etc - or even 3 can do - 2 operates and the 3d will handle something on the screenpad
i dunno trauma center already did something completely new for ds and then added co op on the wii with new story (the one i got at least)
muramasa was awesome and nowhere else to be found than wii
xenoblade, the last story and pandoras tower - all games that easily could have made it to all consoles - especially cause the graphic would be better and trophies added - but no they are all wii exclusives
im sure there are more and those few third exclusives is what made me like my wii - not first party titles nor getting the exact same game i might get on ps3...
an unique console demand unique games

as for the controller i know my hands dont like x boxs one so im not sure if the new one is better or not - its all about how comfy it will be - not too heavy either of course - basically the best controller ever made was already at ps2, ps3 did very lil adjustment cause dont fix what is not broken
