I only just learned that Akira Yamaoka contributed music to the Beatmania series. I don't know how many other people here knew about this. The Beatmania series is not well known in the States (don't know about Europe). The US got one console Beatmania game and it had a poor tracklist.
All the good Beatmania games, which is more or less all of them, are stuck in Japan unless you live in an area that has an arcade with import machines.
I really want to play this series.
Anyway, found some vids of his music from Beatmania on Youtube. So if you've never heard his music outside Silent Hill or games like No More Heroes 2 and Rumble Roses, check it out. According to Wikipedia, Yamaoka worked on Gradius III & IV and Contra: Shattered Soldier. Interesting...
May update the post with more vids if I find more.
Basically, you know it's an Atlus game if in your first encounter in a new area, you get ambushed by a group of enemies who go first and eliminate your entire party before you get your first turn. If Atlus were as famous as Nintendo, this trope would probably be called "Atlus Hard" instead.
eBay evaluations : "will buy again, A+++++++++" is the minimum expected if the seller didn't abduct your family and mail them back to you one piece at a time.
Nice finds, I knew a couple people who imported a few of these games a while back and they seemed to enjoy it. Never tried them personally after seeing those turntable controllers though, lol.
