Uninvited is a classic horror/survival game for the NES.

Uninvited is a point and click game for the NES. It was originally a computer game, but it was ported to the NES. The result? A fantastic NES survival horror game. Although it was considered "scary" at the time, it isn't nowadays. Although it isn't scary, it's still really fun.

Uninvited's storyline is something like a classic horror story. You wake up in your car, having crashed into a tree. Your sister has disappeared from the car, so you get out to try and find her. There is a giant mansion that you creep inside, filled with ghosts, skeletons, zombies, goblins, and many other horrors that are out to kill you. There are many other twists and turns to the story that you'll learn as you proceed through the game that keep things fresh. Many NES games didn't have much of a story. I was glad to see that Uninvited had a story (and a pretty nice one at that). The story was one of the many aspects that kept me interested as I played the game.

The gameplay in Uninvited is something like Myst. You solve puzzles, attack enemies (with items you pick up along the way), and try and find your way out of this cursed mansion. You can find spells along the way that teach you how to start a storm, get out of somewhere, etc. Many of the items (which seem meaningless and not very useful) end up being critical to your success. For example, kitchen supplies. There are many ways to die in this game and they are at every corner. If you aren't careful, an item that you pick up could be haunted and end up killing you. That (in my opinion) keeps things exciting. It definitely kept me on my toes, aware that I could be in grave danger, unbeknownest to myself. There are no boss fights in this game. Sometimes, you'll come across an unusually large enemy, but they aren't a boss. Overall, I felt that the gameplay forced you to stay aware of your surroundings, and pay attention to seemingly subtle yet important details. Very entertaining gameplay, in my opinion.

The graphics in Uninvited are some of the best of its time (Here's an example--sheet ripped by me and 56k/spoiler warning: http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o307/StarFoxA/8157ad1a.png). Definitely a large improvement over previous NES games. The one thing that I felt was wrong with the graphics was the lack of animations. Although there were a few animations, they only consisted of jumping up and down or something similar to that. If the developers had added a few more animations, then this game would have been a perfect ten in my book.

Overall, Uninvited is a title that any NES owner should pick up. I hope that Kemco-Seika brings this classic survival horror adventure to the Wii's Virtual Console so that a lot more people can enjoy this great game. If you can find it, buy it.
