A great game but where is the story's drive?

User Rating: 9 | Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception PS3
In Uncharted 3 you take on the role of Nathan Drake as he works to put together the mystery surrounding Sir Francis Drake's 6 month journey in the East Indies. The story itself features a wide verity of characters with a good mix of both new and old characters from previous installments in the franchise. However the story does feel a bit week in the sense that there doesn't really seem to be much of a driving factor other than Nathan's own ambition to solve it even when warned of the possible dangers of what he seeks in various locations that he travels to.

On the graphics side of things Uncharted 3 does boast some of the flat out most amazing visuals ever seen in any of the Uncharted games. While at first glance the character models may seem like a step back from Uncharted 2 which had some pretty life like looking character models. This change is for the better as the locations that you travel to look gorgeous and feature loads of detail and depth to them which really makes it stand out and makes them feel close to life like.

Gameplay wise Uncharted 3 plays like previous installments in the franchise. It has a good mix between puzzle solving, plat forming and shooting with a decently good balance of each. There are lot of large scale set piece moments that feel like they were right of a Hollywood blockbuster movie. However the peace does feel a bit off sometimes with what feels like an intentionally slow peace from some areas but at the same time these do feel right given the situation. However these sections may bore some who are used to the peace set in previous Uncharted games.

On the multiplayer side of things Uncharted 3's is quite well done. The multiplayer offers a unique set of customization options for players to give each character their own kind of take on them and while these options may feel limiting they do provide a sense of uniqueness. On the downside however Uncharted 3 does use an online pass which means that if you buy it new and want to use the online side of things you're going to have to pony up $9.99 to get access to it.

As a whole Uncharted 3 is a brilliant game that has plenty of wow moments and is another excellent entry into the Uncharted franchise.
