An involving story let down by repetitious gameplay

User Rating: 7.5 | Uncharted 2: Among Thieves PS3
I haven't played the original and so I just bought this one after reading that this installment is better than the original. Uncharted 2 has an immersive story and great graphics but having to almost constantly climb gets boring quite quickly. Even the main character says basically that after a while!

Thankfully, there is some great battle play here and shoot outs. Eventually you will have to take on hordes of soldiers with rocket launchers, machine guns, pistols, grenades etc which is a whole load of fun...the only thing is you just know that you will have to do some more climbing a few minutes later.

The various cut scenes tell the story well although I don't believe you can skip them. I might be wrong on this as I've only played through it once but if I can't then it will be a drag having to sit through them after knowing what happens.

There are various difficulty settings ranging from Very Easy up to Expert so there are different difficulties that will cater to every kind of player. I'm not entirely sure how long it took me to complete the campaign but I guess it was around 10 or 11 hours, so it was just right. The game didn't outstay it's welcome.

There may be moments when you will be unarmed and have to fight characters. This involves some button mashing as there is no complex or well thought out control scheme for this but Arkham City lovers (hey, I am one!) will like that. I heard they have a more complex control scheme in Uncharted 3 so at least they are always making improvements.

I would say that Uncharted 2 is one of the best adventure games on the PS3, especially when it comes to the action and the cut scenes unfolding the plot but I found it slightly unbelievable (even for a game) and repetitious that a character would have to climb so much to solve problems and find places and items.

The graphics are some of the best on the PS3 and the soundtrack fits very well.

Pick up Uncharted 2 if you love adventure games. You can't go much wrong.
