This game is a classic. Having said that, anyone who's played it before might not care to pick this up unless they need a copy for their Xbox. Visuals One of the first things I noticed about the game was the visuals. It's so colorful and pyschodelic that I almost went into a trance. A lot of times, I found myself looking at the colorful, busy background moreso than what I was doing. Audio The audio disappointed me when I found out that I couldn't import my own music. The music itself isn't bad, but it's not good either. The most annoying part of the sound is the obnoxious sounds the characters make during the game. It gets very irritating after the first few minutes. Gameplay The game itself is great. The Classic mode is the original arcade game with a slight twist with some of the combos that can be pulled off. You can choose your own path through 26 different stages and each stage normally has around five levels, so you're talking over 100 different boards to play. UBAM also offers other gaming options such as Seesaw mode which requires you to clear the level without putting too many bubbles on one side of the screen because it will cause the screen to topple over. There is also a Color mode which is standard UBAM play with a twist. Shot mode will test your skill because you only have one shot that will cause the entire board to clear. There are plenty of games and options to play another player or the computer which is pretty competitive. Overall I really enjoy the game. I played Super-Bust-A-Move '99 for PS back in the day and when I saw this for the Xbox and for less than $20, I had to jump on it. It's a fun game, especially if there's another BAM fanatic in your home. If not, there's always the online option to find competition on Xbox Live. The visuals and the audio could've been toned down a little, but then again, I guess that's Taito's trademark. The longevity on this game isn't great and it's realistic to finish all of the levels on the Classic mode in less than a day if you are dedicated.
If you aren't a fan of the Bust a Move series of puzzle games, go away right now. Don't read this review, because Ultra Bust-a-Move won't convert you. You'll still think it's a girls game, and you will still hate it. But... Read Full Review
