User Rating: 9.5 | Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection PS2
Metal Gear Solid The Essential Collection is one of the best collections ever to be released, BUT a few things keep it from being the best.

Well lets start off by checking out what the Metal Gear Essential Collection includes. It has the original PS1 game "Metal Gear Solid", "Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance" which is the same as Sons of Liberty only with a lot more extras, and finally "Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence" which is the same as Snake Eater but with a new camera angle and more extras.

The first game IL talk about is "Metal Gear Solid". Im sure a lot of you have been looking everywere to find this baby at high prices well look no more because here it is. It comes in its original PS1 Format and in a new special case. This Game is great and is DEFINITELY worth owning. The only problem with this is that it is still the original PS1 copy. I don't see why Hideo Kojima couln't just make a "Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes" version for the PS2. For those of you who don't know what this is, it is the original Metal Gear Solid game except it was completely remade for the GameCube with WAY better graphics than the PS1version. Also, since it is on its original PS1 Format you NEED a PS1 Memory Card to save. If you don't own one..... good luck finding one because they are not selling those in stores or making them anymore. The only place to get one is on the Internet. This is a great game but like I said, its the original PS1 disk.

The Second Game is MGS2: Substance. This game is nearly close to PERFECT. Great Graphics, Sound, and Great Extras. The Game is the same as Sons of Liberty except it has A Lot more Extras. The Extras include over 150 VR missions (Thats a LOT!!!!), 5 Snake Missions, and a very fun Metal Gear Skateboarding (Which is Basically a Metal Gear Version Tony Hawk Pro Skater). The only down side is that the Camera angle sometimes makes it hard to fight the enemies and there is A LOT, let me say it again, A LOT of dialogue.

And Finally the third game in the collection is Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. This is also a game thats nearly close to perfect. Great and Beautiful Graphics, Great and Marvelous Sound, and a VERY unique and great story, and a New Third Person Camera which is what the Metal Gear Series has needed for a long time. It is way better than the over the top camera view from the other Metal Gear Games. This games sounds Perfect BUT, it has some problems that could have easily been avoided. First off, all of you will notice that subsistence is supposed to have 2-Disks (3 if you have the special edition subsistence). Disk 1 has the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater game and A New Demo theater which lets you play all the cutscenes and has a special Peep Mode wich has edited scenes with Eva in her Bikini. Disk 2 which has the Extras which include Expanded Snake vs Monkey Missions, Dual Mode, The original MSX game and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake, and online mode (However the online mode is pointless now because the server was shut down.) Disk 2 sounds good right? but it is NOT INCLUDED! Disk 3 was the Metal Gear Solid 3 movie but this was only available with the Limited edition Subsistence. I don't see why the Disk 2 and 3 were removed from the Collection. Sure the online mode on Disk 2 was useless now but it still had all the other Extras. And Disk 3 should have been included because i mean common its the Freaking Essential Collection! Those Disks are Considered ESSENTIAL!!!
This was the biggest and notible problem in the collection.

Like i said This is one of the greatest collection's ever to be realesed but a few problems keep it from being the best. If you own These games there really is no point in buying this. If you dont have any of these games then go out there and buy this.

I hope this review helped.
