Sort of met my expectations, but no really..

I was some what of a fan of the Ultimate Spider-Man comic-book series, but at the same time I wasn't all that fond of a 15-16 yr. old version of the hero I loved and honored over the years. So hearing about this game, I was skeptical about it, again only because I wasn't a major fan of the universe of this Spider-Man. I'm more of an old-school Amazing/Spectacular/Web Of - Spider-Man fan.
So, at some point I had bought the game for the PS2 and put it in. The first thing I noticed was the title screen, very comic-book looking and very honest to the comic-series so far. I then pressed start and saw what I didn't expect - another game with pretty bland graphics. Yes, I know it's suppose to look comic-bookish but; damn, really? The graphics were fuzzy, even today when I have it on Gamecube on a 26" LCD HDTV it looks pretty bad.
Now, I usually don't go after video games for their graphics, but this kind of bothered me through out some of the game. The voice acting was pretty much amazing, and I could connect with each character very easily except one....Spider-Man! What the Hell were they thinking? The character of Spidey sounds like crap, I mean it sounds like a 12-13 yr. old who hasn't had his balls drop yet. This is exactly why I didn't care for the Ultimate series nor this game. Even Mary Jane; who I never really cared for, had a much better voice over for her character.
The fighting style in this game is pretty cool, but very slow for Spidey unfortunately. Despite Spidey being probably the most annoying character in this game, you have the chance to play as Venom as well in this game and fight/kill enemies whenever you want. What's great about Venom, is that you can actually devour and suck the energy out of anyone to regenerate your health if it's decreasing; either by itself or from damage. In the end of this game, you feel as though there should've been a lot of special features for you, like extra characters to play as. Though you get extra costumes and get to play as Venom, you sometimes wish you could just play as anyone, which would've been perfect.
So overall, this game is actually pretty short, but has a cram of super-villains and bad guys. It includes: The Beetle, Venom(of course, who you can also play as), Carnage, Silver Sable, Electro, Rhino, Shocker, and Green Goblin. The game also features some Marvel heroes, such as: The Human Torch and Wolverine. This amount of characters in this game seemed like the game had a lot going on. A sequel would've been amazing, oh sorry, I mean "Ultimate", but unfortunately it was laid off before it could even hit production. I guess this game got mixed reviews and just didn't satisfy fans of the comic-series.
I enjoyed this game a lot back in the day, now I it's more of a missed opportunity for me, as if this game could've had more to it..
