The only real legitimate problem with Ultimate Spiderman is its length. Just when you start to really love it, it ends.

Ultimate Spiderman puts you neck deep in the core Venom plotline of the Ulimate Spiderman comic book. It adapts the story action and artstyle of the books extremely well and carries the Spiderman game franchise through the dormat years between proper Spiderman movie sequels. Treyarch takes what they learned from Spiderman 2 and adapts it nicely to the comic style.

The web slinging is back and just as solid as it was in SM2 if not more so. Flying through NYC has never been more seamless and fast. This slinging is a big part of the boss battles and chase sequences of the game. Spidey has to chase almost every bad guy through the city before he beats on them.

The boss battles are well organized and intense. US has a combat engine that is simple but effective that focuses less on combos and more or what the spiderman is known for...constant movement. To beat the bosses you will have to keep moving and jumping and fighting and moving and jumping. While this isn't as complex as previous SM games it fits the character and setting much better.

Venom battles are fast paced and distinctly different, but in no way is his appearance a show stealer. The story weave in and out of the two characters nicly, but it would have been nice to see more opportunities to switch characters at will. The city goals are fun but unlike SM2 there are not enough of them and more variety in the city goals would have been nice.

Add all of this to great voice acting, wonderful story progression and exciting Marvel character interaction and you have a Spiderman game that feels fantastic, yet unfiinished. I was really getting into playing the game, when it abruptly ended well before its time. Yes it does give you the option to find more city goals after you complete the game but that is more like cheap filler than legit gameplay. Great effort Treyarch but you needed about 3 more hours of game play to really knock this one out of the park.
