The first FPS roleplaying game. Set in the Ultima universe. Sure they have fishing poles in Everquest - years later.
Ultima Underworld was the first game to bring the immediacy and immersion that we loved in Doom to a fantasy roleplaying game. And not just any fantasy, the tighly developed and fascinating world of Lord Brittania 's Ultima universe.
UU has all the hallmarks of an Ultima game: diverse races and factions, ethical questions and explorations of moral ambiguity, rich questing experiences and interesting character developement.
Get this game and figure out a way to play it! It is DOS, so you will need an emulator or an old computer with an old operating system.
You could probably buy this game and an old computer for less than the cost of a modern game - and if you do, you can play the other Ultima Underworld (creatively named Ultima Underworld 2) and the rest of the Ultimas (at least up to Ultima VIII) on it too!
But the way, my ratings are for this game at the time it was released. Obviously, if it was released today I would not rate the graphics a 9!
