Developer Reality Pump is readying a fantasy role-playing game with a beautiful graphics engine. Shades of Oblivion, perhaps? Read on.

LOS ANGELES--Reality Pump is a developer that's known primarily for the popular Earth 21xx series of real-time strategy games, but the company is currently working on Two Worlds, a fantasy role-playing game that's looking to improve on the current king of the role-paying hill, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Like Oblivion, Two Worlds features a beautiful graphics engine that will let you explore an open world that's alive with monsters and adventure, and you'll choose to be good or evil as you chart your own path.

The game takes its name from the fact that its fantasy setting is divided into two. There are the civilized races and then there are the hordes, led primarily by the orcs. When an ancient temple is discovered, it threatens to reignite simmering hatreds. You'll be caught in the middle of all this, and it's up to you to decide what to do next. The gameworld is entirely dynamic, which means that your decisions have an affect on everything. For instance, you may join a guild to get skills but then discover that to join another guild later on you'll have to betray your existing guild. Do you? These kinds of situations will lead to all sorts of possibilities in terms of story, and we're told that there are more than 200 different possible endings.

We only got to see glimpses of the game in action, but the combat looks intense and more immersive than the combat in Oblivion. You can switch between first-person and third-person perspectives to suit your tastes, and combat will involve everything from swordfighting to martial arts and hand-to-hand battling. The combat system also sounds intriguing--it'll be based on a Magic: The Gathering-style card system with up to 400 different spells.

The online component also sounds cool. Apparently Xbox 360 and PC players will be able to play together online, though we'll wait for further details as to how this will work. Two Worlds will also ship with various editors, so you will be able to create your own adventures or, if you're really dedicated, entire expansions.

Visually, Two Worlds looks really good, and arguably better than Oblivion in terms of graphics. We saw beautifully rendered forests, picturesque villages, and plenty of fearsome creatures to battle. Reality Pump showed that it could play around with the latest graphical effects and shaders with last year's Earth 2160, but we were still impressed by how Two Worlds looked. The developers are also looking to provide some top-notch audio as well--the game's orchestral music is being written by composer Harold Faltermeyer, of Beverly Hills Cop and Top Gun fame. It's easy to see why Digital Pump is pumped for the game. Two Worlds is scheduled to ship this holiday season.

I'm glad there's online play. I can't tell you how times playing Oblivion I wished 2 or 3 of my friends wanted to be in the game with me. As for combat, the system used in PON ( Path of Neo) seems to be the best combat system I've played especially when fighting multiple enemies.

Oblivion and stuff in it only looked good when you were like 2 feet away from them, and in Oblivion there were pop-ups and junk like whats the point of a horse when you fast travel? lame, and in Oblivion NEVER had good AI whatsoever, example, I am an assassin and I sneakishly assassinate somone in the middle of skingrad with an arrow placed to the skull. The argonian lay in the street as people walk by looking at the corpse...WOW they are smart..../ I liked Oblivion but It has let me down in so many ways. TWO-WORLDS FOREVER!!!

    !!!!
This game looks awesome. to _EvilSHot_, i agree, but i also disagree.
Some of the screens (maybe 3 of em lol) look a lil worse than oblivion.
However, the amount of detail in each screen lik the grasses and trees and animals and stuff look so much better, i think. Also, some of the screens look like they have better shading and lighting effects, as well as a higher resolution.
What i also like better about this game is it looks like the combat will be much better in this game rather than in oblivion. Elder scrolls III had horrible combat, oblivion made it a LOT better, but like, u still dont get a good sense of you are actually hitting the creature u are trying to hit, to me, based on the screens of this game you do get a sense you are hitting whatever it is. This looks awesome.
I was gunna pick up elder scrolls, but i think im gunna wait for this to come out instead, it looks better. Also, i cant WAIT for Fable 2. Im so excited for that game =]
Also - the fighting looks good, but, is it hack and slash or turn-based?
The whole card thing confused me.
I really hope its hack and slash, otherwise i wont buy it - its soo boring and frustrating in the middle of an action game and a fight and u just wanna beat the sh!t outa someone/thing and then it stops and u have to wait ur turn lol.

Yeah, I agree the graphics looked relativley worse then Oblivion. Although it could be simply the quality of the photo and the stage of game creation there in. Overall, I am looking forward to this almost as much as Fable 2.

I sure as hell hope it is better than Oblivion!

I agree with Capitax... Oblivion's graphics look better than this. Most of the lighting and textures in the screenshots looked really unnatural.

I think this game sounds good but with 200 endings, how long is it going to take to finish? or is it like oblivion were after the ending it keeps going? but then is there a way so see every ending? i'm still getting this game thou!

So to get this straight, is the fighting like oblivion (just hack and slash and magic and **** or is like Final Fantasy where you wait your turn for them to attack..)

I personally think the Turn based stuff is not fun...Im a hack and slasher myself

The graphics look very good. I just hope it doesn't have the same framerate issues Oblivion suffered from. I'm interested to see how this game turns out.

when it says card combat system, it means you will find new skills based on the card, and you will be able to combine the cards to make new spells. different combinations will mean different spells, and if your the first then you get to name the spell.

this game looks simaler to oblivion so thats good, the perfect game would be everything in oblivion (exept level scalling) and the fighting system in Dark Messiah, Gothic 3 looked good but look how crappy that fighting system was, we'll just have to wait and see...
