Awful voice acting aside, its one of the best RPGs out there.

The Gamespot reviewer got it worng, as they so often do, its not that the characters and story are uninteresting, its that the voice acting is so bad that its hard to get pulled in by it or even care sometimes as you just want them to stop talking.

Yes the voice acting is seriously bad for the most part, theres a couple well voiced characters but the majority, including the player character, are really bad to horrendously bad. I dont know where they found these people, I cant imagine eve the most amateur voice actors being this bad.

Some of the sound effects arent the well chosen either, particularly in the inventory screens, for example when your clicking on smaller things like rings it just makes the sound of a mose clicking, most of te inventory sounds just dont make sense, but you get used to it.

Anyways, that asside, the underlying game is amazing, a complete oldschool feel to it, the weapons, items, magic, its all top notch and really brings you back to the days of baldurs gate.

Infact asside from being a 3rd person rpg and not a trun/party based rpg, this is probably one of the closest games to the old greats there is.

There is a large verity of weapons, amours, items and magic so really there are many strategies you can use, from just straight up brute force to traps and sneakery. Magic is also quite fun as you can combine different spells and effects to create differentl attacks, magic animations are quite nice too and using magic feels satisfying. Archery is also great, unlike many games where being the archer or rouge is a waste as you are underpowered, here archery is actually quite fun, lots of powerful bows and quivers along with being able to trager more then one enemy at a time, the bows pack a punch and I have found them to be indispensable.

There is a crafting system by which you can upgrade your own weapons, each item breaks down into core ingredients such as wood, steel, iron, leather, can then use thoes to upgrade your weapons and armour, there are also crystals that you can use to give your items special attributes. This is really quite engaging and you find yourself constantly looking to upgrade your stuff, your always improving your arsenal so you never really get bored with your stuff.

The world is huge and well designed, lots of different area's, cities, you name it. Along with huge world comes alot of side quests, it would almost be too many if it wasnt for the great map system which shows you exactly where you need to travel, so your not just randomly wondering the map hoping to stumble upon your next objective. There is also a teleportation system which allows you to teleport to most anywhere on the map that has a teleporter, and with the use of your teleportation stone you can just teleport from whever you happen to be, no need to seek out a teleporter.

Oh yes...you can loot! a lost art in recent games but here you canoot EVERYTHING, you can enter many houses and buildings and they all contain all sorts of loot, for thoes that really enjoyed this aspect of games like Baldurs gate, its in full swing in TW2.

The story is decent, its a fairly standard RPG story but good none the less, there is alot of literature in game, all of which is well written, that tells interesting aspects of the world. So lore buff's will find something to like here too.

The game does have some minor bugs but most of them are overlookable, theres a quest or two that didnt complete itself, and sometimes teleporters will become unavailable for some reason but they usually start working again after a little while, the AI does have some path finding issues but this is almost a godsend if your taking on enemies that will kill you in two hits, for the most part the path finding is fine and the AI will actually traverse complex paths to rach you. All-in all I havent found any bugs that really detract from the game, mostly just really minor stuff.

Overall this game is awesome, if you can ignore the awful voice acting and have a laugh at it then you will find plenty to enjoy here, its areal ode to older RPGs and a fun one at that, I must say I am enjoying this game far more then the boring, over simplified rpg's like Dragon Age which bored me to tears.

So if your a real rpg buff and have been dieing for a old-school feeling game then I dare say youve found one.
