They all said it is awesome. And I was so disappointed.

User Rating: 6.5 | Twisted Metal: Black PS2
I used to love Twisted Metal. And I loved the new Twisted Metal Head On on PSP. I played it a lot, in my favourite Paris level.
Then I checked out Twisted Metal: Black. The reviews here say mostly "AWESOME" "INSTANT CLASSIC" and "10/10". Even in the year 2008. They say the graphic is great for a ps2 game. Well, let me tell you: It is not.

So let's start:

This game came out 2001. It opens with the starting jingle of "Paint it Black". Okay. Cool. The menus look awesome and the rendered movies are kind of nice to look at. So we start the game.

The graphics:

The first thing you will notice are blurry textures, few details and plain cars. Everything looks black, dark and depressing. Particle effects are ok, explosions are ok. Nothing special. Destroying of building results in 3 parts flying around. (When you destroy a whole house!)

The sound:

Okay, everyone was like "Nine Inch Nails like". No, it's not. The menu theme is ok. But overall music isn't that special. The sounds are simple, most of them sound like you heard them before. You sure did, if you played other Twisted Metals.

The gameplay:

You drive around and it takes kinda long until you have cleaned all enemies. Then you do the same again. Okay, nothing to complain about, that's twisted metal, I expected that. But it looks so bad and feels so wrong, I couldn't enjoy it.
After you have killed all enemies, it goes on to the next round. When you finish, you see the end movie of the character.

The characters:

Oh man, they where oh so overrated. Yes, of course, there where gruesome things in their live. But nothing creative or special. Dollface, the girl with the mask nailed to her face, ok. That is nice. But the rest won't get the price for innovation.

Overall:

If you are a retro-fan and you think you can live with the dark and depressing setting and the not-so-good graphics, you may be happy.
I was disappointed, and I liked Head On way better. If you don't play multiplayer, then don't get this. Maybe people will disagree with this review, but I like to have my own opinion, and that's it.
It may be also fun with friends but if you want a happy and cool car combat game, go for Twisted Metal Head On. (For PSP or PS2)
