Twisted Metal is a game made for PS1 during the late 1990, it spawn a series of genres regarding to vehicular combat on an open-sandbox battleground. This latest version of Twisted Metal gave the same experience as the titles of the first few installments with updated graphics and DESTRUCTIBLE environments.

Right from the start the game feels like an Arcade game of the 1990's with an option to play a specific character in the campaign and allowing players to pick different set of vehicles to your liking (5 default). Each character has an intro and outro which are FMV (dont see this very often in games anymore). Then the game throws you in a arena and players have to score the highest to progress. This involves deathmatch, TDM, objective based matches and finally a boss fight in the end of the game. The SP last about 1hrs for each character completing 6 matches (total 5?). Story itself feels simple and feels like forced into the game, not surprised for a game that was designed from the 1990s where a good story isnt important. However each character intro and outro are done well. Its disappointing that they didnt expand any further or deeper to their backstory especially players whom had not played or forgotten TM series. (I guess FMV are expansive)

The vehicle control are very odd and old layout similiar to PS1. Physics hasnt change and it often buggy and at times it can be frustrating.
Soundtracks are rock and heavy metal/death metal? only and it suit the environments well

This is the best part of the game, Multiplayer. It is extremely addictive and fun as you destroy and level the arena to ground zero as you massacre online dudes and rush for powerups. Very traditional game modes, DM, TDM... (+2?modes) and 10? maps. However this game will most likely keep players occupy for 1-3 months unless your hardcore fan. Its a shooter game with vehicles and guns and blasting 300 vehicles repetitively can be boring. The biggest issue its the online pass, that comes with new copy of the game. For the ppl who got it used/rent will not enjoy the best part of the game. Also, the new copy come along with PS2 TM:black which was the previous installment as a bonus that it is not neccesary.

Conclusion, Twisted Metal feels like an upgraded copy of the arcade game of the past priced at $60. TM remain true to its original and so as the gameplay. With forced online pass, short replay value and very traditional and repetitive arcadey gameplay although it comes along a classic game of the same series. I would recommend grab it at $30-40.
