STORY

Pretty much Twisted Metal is about this contest in which this mysterious man known as Calypso holds a "no-holds barred" death match which drivers put missiles, machine guns, bombs, and all other sorts of goodies out to kill each other. The drivers and characters are what make the game. In all TM games each character enters the contest to be granted a specific wish if he, or she wins the contest. Calypso has "special powers" so he can pretty much grant any wish desired. Each game is different, and so are the characters. In this Twisted Metal, there are only 3 characters. Each with different wishes and desires. Each scene plays out like a movie. Real actors, heavy use of CGI, quick editing. Pretty cool considering the previous games has pictures and some movement. The dialogue is nothing special, and the plot points of these characters becomes almost too predictable. I called Mr. Grimm's ending right from the start. (Even though his "middle story" is only about the Preacher going after Calypso. Boring!) So Mr. Grimm did not have much time on screen, and it was horrid with laughably bad with lines such as, "My name Daniel Grimm…and I'm an **** "You wanna meet God? *gunshot*" Sweet Tooth's ending was okay, and Dollface…oh let's just face it, I laughed at how bad it was. She was the worst. Considering that character's start in "Twisted Metal: Black" was one of my favorite characters.

I did like how all the endings run together with each character, and how the ending panned out. That was the only part where I was surprised. That does not mean it is good…

Each character's story includes: The intro video, three events, a middle video for the character, two more events, a boss battle, and the epilogue video. The boss battles are crazy, epic, and difficult. Sweet Tooth battles "The Brothers Grimm" (Mr. Grimm and his minions in two monster trucks). Mr. Grimm fights "Iron Maiden" (Dollface in a giant robot…seriously this fight lasted me 25 minutes) and Dollface fights "Sweet Tooth's Carnival of Carnage" (this was just one big mess…get inside this huge machine and defeat the minions of Sweet Tooth and beat this giant clown flame head)

Some of the story events were terrible…and why is there racing in this game? Each character has a racing level. It was never pretty.

GAMEPLAY

The controls are something to get used to. If you've played one Twisted Metal game, you know what to expect. There are missiles, homing missiles, shotguns, sniper rifles, freeze, etc.

You blow **** up! The end.

It gets crazy, you about 15 vehicles to choose from, each with their own statistics ranging from "speed, armor, and special attack damage." My best car was "Outlaw." There's also a helicopter you can choose. To my surprise, it wasn't broken. You can still target it and bring it down with ease.

Each car has a special attack, and an alternative special. Sweet Tooth can throw the head of his ice cream truck to do damage…or you can turn him into a Transformer and make him run and fly until you use his special attack. MULTIPLAYER

Okay, multiplayer is now all the rage with a video game…every game needs multiplayer now right? But Twisted Metal is a game i can see having a muliplayer. It works.

The first thing you find out is Twisted Metal has an online pass. An online pass is something that comes with a brand new copy of the game that lets you play online, rather than buy a used copy and have to buy not only the game, but the online pass as well. The servers of the game were alright, my connection never worked well, and waiting for a game took forever.

The game modes were fun. There's Death Match, Team Death Match, Hunted, Team Hunted, Last Man Standing, and Nuke. Each game mode had its fun, but the novelty wore off quickly.

Taking out an opponent takes time and patience, and yes it takes strategy. Also, what I do like is the "campers" will be exposed on radar so others can see where they are after a while of hiding from the fight.

You can earn experience points and level up

David Jaffe, the head developer, and mastermind behind the series (and God of War…don't forget about that series!) has been hard at work giving us the news about all the problems with the servers, and all the issues behind everything. They are fixing them and I gotta hand it to Jaffe, the guy cares for his audience. FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall I'm a huge fan of TM 2, and TM: Black. I had high hopes for this game, but with the predictable story, bad script, outdated graphics, and lack of enjoyable multiplayer„ the only thing I enjoyed were the actors, and the actual gameplay.

Overall, a disappointing game for someone who played the **** out TM: Black in 2001. The game did end in a cliffhanger, you can see how a sequel will be made. An exciting ending I thought, until I saw the news. David Jaffe left the company behind TM for personal reasons and layoffs were made at Eat Sleep Play. What I fear is the next Twisted Metal taking another 11 years to come out. But, oh well. I liked the game, it just wasn't everything I was hoping it to be.
