An extremely cliche story with a really fun gameplay...

Before I get on to the good stuff, I'll first point out a few of the game's shortcomings. For one, the controls are pretty inconsistent (especially in the aiming department), and I found myself battling the awkward control scheme more than a few times before the game ended. Smaller issues like mediocre voice acting and an incoherent plot also are present, but they don't drastically affect the gameplay. A few of the fighting missions are a bit too difficult (the final boss battle as a good cop is a pain) in my opinion, and most 'average' gamers will have a tough time completing this game. I know that I definitely had a tough time in a few sections.

Oh, and did I mention that one level has zombies and weird demonic stuff? I can't say it fits in with the rest of the game all too well, but it's an... uhh... interesting touch I guess.

Now onto the good - which there is quite a bit of. For starters, the graphics are phenomenal and the rap-dominated soundtrack suits the game's crime-laden atmosphere perfectly. There's also plenty of variation between levels; you get driving sequences, gunplay, fighting sections, stealth, and even a bit of platforming. This is a well-varied action game, and it's bound to satisfy the cravings of most gamers. Although I wish the difficulty were a bit more consistent, that doesn't take away from how fun this game really is. Streets of LA provided countless hours of enjoyment for me, and playing the three different endings adds some nice additional replay value.

Streets of LA may not be the most original thing out there, but I certainly had a great time playing this game. Though the iffy control scheme, inconsistent difficulty, and frustrating street crimes make the overall experience less than perfect, it's still definitely a worthy playthrough for fans of crime games.
