Transformers the Game builds on a great franchise but follows Star Trek Legacy in gameplay

Transformers the Movie (2007) has had alot of hype, mainly with the Gen1 fans and younger kids who are discovering the nobility of Optimus Prime for the first time. Transformers the Game builds upon the 2007 Movie but goes a step further with the return of Frank Welker who as the original voice-actor for Megatron was unceremoniously passed over as the voice for the Megatron in the live action movie. The gameplay is similar to that of Star Trek Legacy. You start as either a Autobot or Decepticon with set missions that you must complete in order to advance through the game. The graphics are great and the world that the designers put you in is well made. However, like Star Trek Legacy, this game becomes choppy or slows down when elements like other vehicles, damage to buildings or weapon systems are used. Other issue is the unending supply of Military Forces that challenge users on various levels of the Game. If the game were sticking to Michael Bays use of "realisim" in the movie, the combat between Human units would cease after the first few waves of attacks or the depletion of weapons systems in that area of operation.

The sound effects are appropriate for the game, however you must strain to hear the transformation sound, which either means the developer omitted the true sound from the GEN1 series or made a poor attempt to create their own sound for the effect.

Added features to the game like unlock codes for the GEN1 skins for Optimus, Starscream and Jazz are a refreshing change to the cold "realistic" appearance that Michael Bay chose for his reimagined Transformers. Other additional features that a quaint are the pics from the movie, comic books, GEN1 series and movie. All and all this is a fine product for the amazing price of $19.99. It will entertain and delight the superfan and the novice of the Transformers legacy. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of shoot them ups and people who might have a need for some nostalgia.
