4. What should I know before I sign-up?
Here is some helpful information you may want to consider prior to registration:

a. In the Elimination, Preliminary, Qualifying, Quarterfinal, Semifinal, and Semifinal Playoff Rounds, the match format will be as follows:

- Each match will be a single 1 vs. 1 battle.
- Players will fight in Assassination mode on the Winter Duel map.
- Both players shall save a replay of the battle and email it to gameadmin@gamespot.com, along with the results of the battle in the text of the email.
- The two losing players from the Semifinal Round will participate in a Semifinal Playoff Round to determine the third finalist.

b. The Final Round will be played live on GameSpot Tournament TV.

- The match will be a 3-player free-for-all.
- Players will fight in Assassination mode on the Sentry Point map.

c. There are no reserved sign-ups; it is a first-come, first-served situation. GameSpot will not be responsible for players who give up their spots voluntarily due to promises made by other non-GameSpot admins. If you have questions about losing your spot in the Tournament, please contact GameSpot admins at gameadmin@gamespot.com before relinquishing your spot.

d. If you do not show up to participate in any match for which you are scheduled, you forfeit your place within the Tournament and cannot compete in any other matches.

5. What is the match format for the pre-Final rounds?
a. For the Elimination, Preliminary, Qualifying, Quarterfinal, Semifinal, and Semifinal Playoff Rounds, the host of the match will be chosen in the Tournament chat room prior to the match’s start. To host a match, players should follow the following steps:

- Load up Supreme Commander and choose the multiplayer option.
- Select the GPGNet option.
- Once you have entered the game lobby, choose Host Custom Game.
- Enter a game name. The name of your game should be in the following format: "GameSpot Match X," where X is the number of your match. For example, if you are hosting match #23, the name of your game should be "GameSpot Match 23."
- Click the box to enable password protection. The password you should use is provided under "My Headquarters" when you check in for your match. Select Host Game.

- Once the game has launched, select the following options:
Map: Winter Duel
Unit Cap: 1000
Victory Condition: Assassination
Timeouts: None
Game Speed: Normal
Cheating: Off
Civilians: Enemy
Prebuilt Units: On
Mods: Resource Rich

- Players may use any faction they prefer. If there is a dispute regarding faction, the hosting player will choose faction first, and the other player will then choose. In this circumstance, the host will then not be able to choose a different faction.
- Team options should be set as follows:
Spawn: Fixed
Team: Locked

b. If you are not the host of the match, you will enter the match once the host has created the game. To join a match, players should follow the following steps:

- Load up Supreme Commander and choose the multiplayer option. - Select the GPGNet option.
- Once you have entered the game lobby, choose Join Custom Game.
- Locate the game on the list. Highlight it and choose Join Game. The name of the game should be in the following format: "GameSpot Match X," where X is the number of your match. For example, if you are joining match #23, the name of the game should be "GameSpot Match 23." The password is provided under "My Headquarters" when you check in for your match.
- Players may use any faction they prefer. If there is a dispute regarding faction, the hosting player will choose faction first, and the other player will then choose. In this circumstance, the host will then not be able to choose a different faction.

c. The host will be chosen in the Tournament chat room by a simple coin toss. The player listed first in the Players / Schedule & Results pages will call heads or tails.

d. Once the match is completed, you should save the replay. Save the file with the following filename: (round)(match). For example, if you played in the Qualifying round in match 6, you would name your file qualifying6. It will then be saved as qualifying6.SupremeCommanderReplay in your replay. This folder is located in your Documents and Settings folder. For example, if your network username and Supreme Commander profile are both "username," you will find the file here: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Gas Powered Games\SupremeCommander\replays\username. Email this file to gameadmin@gamespot.com with the subject "Supreme Commander results" and the following information in the email text:

- The round you played (i.e., Elimination Round, Preliminary Round, etc.)
- Your GameSpot username.
- The GameSpot username of the match winner.
- The length of the match as displayed by the results screen.

Players have two hours from the scheduled start time of the match to email the replay file to the above address. Players should also join the Tournament chat room immediately after the match has ended to inform the admin of the results. If the emailed results and file are not received by the indicated time, you will be disqualified from the Tournament. See Question #29 for information regarding disputed matches. In the event of a player dispute, the admin may decide an outcome based on the replay file, or may reschedule the match as the situation warrants.

e. If you do not agree with the match format as described, you should not sign up for a slot, and leave space for other interested players. While legitimate disputes will be researched and handled on a case-by-case basis, disputes resulting from the nature of the published format will be immediately dismissed.

6. What is the match format for the Final Round?

9. How are you scoring the Tournament?
Elimination, Preliminary, Qualifying, Quarterfinal, and Semifinal Rounds: The game assigns a winner at the end of the match based on the destruction of the opposing commander. The winner will be seeded into the next round based on the time it took to complete the match.

The two losing players in the Semifinal Round will participate in the Semifinal Playoff Round. The winner of this match will join the two Semifinal winners in the Final Round, which consists of three players.

In the Final Round, the first player to have his Commander destroyed is the third-place winner. The second player to have his Commander destroyed is the second-place winner. The player with the last Commander standing is the winner of the Tournament.

10. What maps will be played?
Elimination, Preliminary, Qualifying, Quarterfinal, Semifinal, and Semifinal Playoff Rounds: Winter Duel

Final Round: Sentry Point

11. What if there is a tie?
There is no possibility of a tie in Supreme Commander’s Assassination mode.

12. What other restrictions are there?
a. Any disorderly behavior or harassment against any GameSpot admins will disqualify a contestant from participation, finals, or prizes. GameSpot admins are the final arbiters in all situations, and they have the final say in every situation; this includes Tournament Chat or changes to the rules as stated below in section f.

b. Please refrain from using harassing, negative, or profane language in either the Tournament Chat or the game instance.

c. No cheats or hacks of any kind are to be used. Players will be disqualified if they are caught using any cheat or 3rd-party "helper" applications.

d. Taking advantage of known exploits in the game is also considered cheating. Exploits in the game could be a variety of things. If GameSpot admins find that you are cheating, you will be disqualified from the Tournament immediately with no recourse for yourself.

f. These rules are subject to change at any time. If any changes to the rules occur, you will be notified through the Tournament news page and a Tournament forum post; a time stamp will be on any Tournament Web pages that have been revised. It is required that all participants review either the GameSpot Tournament forum or Tournament announcement page for such notices. GameSpot will not be responsible for players who do not review and make themselves aware of updates that are posted publicly and related to any changes to the official rules.

13.What are the prizes for the winners?
1st Place - The 1st place winner of the Finals will receive a $600 gift card to Best Buy

2nd Place - The 2nd place player from the Finals will receive a $300 gift card to Best Buy

3rd Place - The 3rd place player from the Finals will receive a $100 gift card to Best Buy

General Rules

14. What do I need to do during roll call?
We have an automated roll-call system that will let you sign in to notify us of your arrival. The earliest you can check in is 60 minutes before your time slot. If you are on the waiting list, you will also need to sign in to let us know you are available to participate immediately.

15. I've registered for the Tournament. What do I do next?
You will receive an e-mail message from us confirming your registration and time slot. It will also contain instructions for your next match. Note: You must check in to My Headquarters at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled time slot. Read on for more details about the check-in process.

16. How do I check in for my next match?
To participate, you must check in for roll call at least 15 minutes before your assigned time slot. To check in, make sure you are logged in to GameSpot.com, then simply visit the My Headquarters page in the Tournament area and click on the "Check in" button to let us know that you're ready to play. You'll then see instructions on how to enter the GameSpot chat room for roll call. Late arrivals and no-shows will give up their time slots to those on the waiting list. NO EXCEPTIONS! Official GameSpot admins will be identified with their name listed in green in Tournament Chat.

17. Will each player get a chance to warm up before their match?
No. Players should practice before playing their official match.

18. What are the steps to join the match?
See Question #5: "What is the match format for the pre-Final rounds?"

19. What happens if my opponent doesn't show up for the match?
No shows may be replaced by waitlisted players. In the event that an opponent does not check in or show up, you will automatically advance to the next round.

20. What is a waitlisted player or a substitute?
In this Tournament, GameSpot is treating wait-listed players and substitutes as the same. At any time during the Qualifier through Semifinal matches, a current player can be replaced with the one from the waitlist.

21. What if I get disconnected during my scheduled match?
If you are disconnected due to player-side internet difficulties or technical problems, and can then not participate in the match, the opposing player will be declared the winner and you will be disqualified from the Tournament. If you are disconnected from the match, you may restart the round from scratch. Players that are disconnected more than twice from their match will be disqualified. Should problems arise due to the GPGNet matchmaking service that affect both players, the match will be rescheduled at the GameSpot admin’s discretion.

22. What type of servers will I play on?
Supreme Commander utilizes the GPGNet matchmaking service to connect players via online lobby. One player will function as the host in the pre-Final rounds. In the Final Round, GameSpot will function as the host.

23. Can I use voice chat during the match?
As this is not a team event, a third-party voice chat program should not be used.

24. Can I use a name other than my GameSpot profile user name?
The name you register under on the Tournament page is your GameSpot user name. This is tied to your GameSpot Total Access subscription, and you must have this to register. Once you register, you will have a chance to insert your GPGNet username into your profile on the Tournament page. Your GPGNet username in Supreme Commander must match the GPGNet username you registered with in the Tournament, or you will be removed from the Tournament.

25. If I am put on the waiting list, how will I know if I am able to get in the Tournament?
You will receive an e-mail stating that you are able to participate. Because players may not show up for their matches, you should always show up and sign in during roll call for the time slot requested, even if you are only on the waiting list. This will ensure you maximum visibility to GameSpot admins and players who may be seeking a replacement for your time slot. Note: When you check in, make sure to join chat and let the GameSpot admins and live players know you are there. There are situations when GameSpot admins are looking for replacements who are in Tournament Chat but are AFK or unavailable. If you want to participate, the best thing for you to do is be available.

26. Do I have the option to choose my scheduled match for rounds after the Elimination Round?
To keep the Tournament process consistent, you will not be able to pick a time slot after your confirmed match in the Elimination Round.

27. What happens if I make it into the later rounds but don't show up on time?
If you want to be a part of this competition, attendance and timeliness are required. If you do not show up on time for a scheduled match, you will be disqualified and ineligible to win any prizes. Many substitute players will be eager and ready to take your time slot, so if you want to play, you must show up.

28. How are you preventing players from cheating?
Replay files will be reviewed by a GameSpot admin to ensure that no one is cheating. Players are expected to conduct themselves with honor, and players found to be cheating will be immediately disqualified from the Tournament and banned from future participation with no recourse for themselves.

29. What if I have a dispute about the match?
Should you have any dispute with the results of the match, the way it was handled, or any administration issue with the method in which the match was carried out, the rules or the actual event itself, you have 48 hours from the end of the final match to submit your query. Your inquiry should include why you are disputing the match, other players involved in the dispute, the performance you have a problem with and any accompanying video or demo recording, and any other pertinent data or proof to corroborate your claim. Any dispute requests must be sent to gameadmin@gamespot.com. Dispute requests received 48 hours or more after a final event has closed will be disregarded. Disputes arising over the published format or any announced discretionary changes to the format will be disregarded. Unless communicated otherwise by the admin, match results are final.

30. How do I report someone breaking the rules?
You can send an e-mail to gameadmin@gamespot.com explaining your situation, the nature of your complaint, and any pertinent information that would help the GameSpot admins of this Tournament make a decision on your complaint.

31. Why is this Tournament for U.S. & Canadian (excluding Quebec) residents only?
Because each country has its own laws regarding sweepstakes, Tournaments and contests, we're only able to include U.S. and Canadian residents for this specific event. Regarding Quebec residents in particular, this province has very stringent rules governing the types of Tournaments, contests and sweepstakes that occur in Quebec (or which residents of Quebec can participate). These include required filing fees, French-translated documents and certain documentation, which would be overly burdensome for CNET Networks to provide for our events. However, we're always looking for new benefits that all of our subscribers can enjoy. Each Tournament may have different requirements so stay tuned for future events.
